Watch your back ND. The 2012 US News Graduate School rankings are out. Why does that matter? Because high rankings at that level reflect faculty who lead in their field. BC scores nicely higher than ND in Economics, Sociology, Chemistry , Psychology and a virtual tie for law school. And that is a very different reality compared to , say, ten years ago. My bet is the magnet that is Greater Boston academia continues to draw top talent to BC and by comparison over time more ND academic departments will drift lower in these rankings. And not to pile on BC's academic prowess but the place also has top Schools of Social Work, Education, Nursing ( ND has none of these). ND has a School of Engineering and one in Architecture ( and how are those related to Catholic social teaching anyway?) and both have Schools of Business and Law. BC recently added a School of Theology and Ministry which is a re affiliation of BC and Weston School of Theology so this 40 year old "new" school at BC has more depth than would otherwise perhaps appear to be the case.

It is really funny to see all of these comments. It is clear that Boston College is the clear winner. Boston College has more scholars, better location, and academics …well that depends of the website. For example, Forbes ranked BC 2nd for best religious affiliated college and ranked ND as 5th. On US New, ND ranks 19th and BC ranks 31st. Also, Boston College has the largest Catholic alumni association in the world. One last thing, they are great schools but BC wins!

More like Bullsh*t College. Yeah, ND football sucks right now, and yeah, Boston is better than SB, but academically/socially/spiritually, ND wins hands down.

I always wished of going to ND because of the campus (God filled campus), the academics, and alumni. I went to visit both school and realized that they are nearly the same. The buildings at BC are actually more beautiful in my opinion. Also, the Chestnut Hill area is better that Southbend. When it comes to academics, ND does rank #20 and BC #30, but they are different on all the websites, and lets be honest, is there really a way to measure which education is better? Maybe by looking at the amount of scholars….Clearly, BC wins. GO BC!

BC is a Tier 1 college according to US News and World Report – same as ND. So the fact that you can't think of anyone who would rank a degree from BC as being more prestigious than one from ND is ridiculous. In some cases, such as the business school, our student are recruited in the same ranks as the Ivy Leagues. BC has has more Rhodes Scholars in the past decade than Notre Dame, too. Notre Dame is great, as well, but you're making my point for me. You have blind devotion to a school in the middle of nowhere with a nice bedtime story about football back when in World War 2. That's great.

Also, BC is most certainly not 1 hour from Boston. It's partially in Boston. Get on the train going inbound next time and you'll be surprised at how quickly you find the city. You won't, however, find a bunch of ramblers, townies and Walmarts. Those would be in South Bend. Boston has a college scene, arts scene, young professionals scene, sports scene…I'd keep going but I want you to tell me what South Bend has. Please.

BC is ultra-liberal? Do you even know what that means? If you can make a case for why a top tier university that is run by a high-ranking Catholic priest is ultra-liberal I'd be glad to hear it.

Great point, Lindsey. You all can bring up football because it's maybe the only thing that BC comes sliiiightly close to even being on the same level as ND. Nowadays anyways. Everyone knows that we have a legendary football history but we can disregard that for now. Reputation, academics, alumni networking, etc. – all so much better at ND. I can't think of anyone who would rate a degree from BC as being more prestigous than one from ND, unless they're a BC grad of course. And yeah, BC is close to Boston but when I was there it took me over an hour to get to the city and you can get to Chicago from ND in 1.5 so I really wouldn't rank the location factor too highly. I'd also mention the fact that BC calls itself Catholic but really is super liberal, although I know someone would bring up the whole Obama at ND thing. But hey, at least he came here first.

Notre Dame hasn't won a national championship in forever but they still cling on to their "11 National Championships." Those were so long ago you couldn't even throw a forward pass. BC has a national championship in the 40s but we don't talk about it because it doesn't matter. Welcome to reality.

Also, South Bend is one of the worst places in America. It's in Indiana for one, and there are about as many mobile homes as there are students. They hold on to their football culture because there is, truly, NOTHING else to brag about. Not one thing.

BC has them beat by a long shot. Notre Dame has nice stories about how awesome it used to be back before any of us were alive but nothing relevant to today's world. Come on meow.

Why is academics not a category here? You know, the main reason people go to college? ND is ranked in the top 20 with the number 2 undergraduate business program in the entire country! How does BC compete with that?? Yeah, it doesn't.
