Language is constantly changing - there is no such thing as one word being &quot;better&quot; than another for society. English has never been stable, so it&#039;s silly to bemoan it&#039;s &quot;decline,&quot; which people have been doing since we had a word for that one too. 

That said, the idea of a Word of the Year is ridiculous, and I&#039;m with you: it&#039;s &quot;defriend.&quot;]]></description>
