Actually, Tech landed me an internship at a major law firm and undergraduate research in my sophomore year. So I'd say the academics are working just fine for me.

I also forgot to mention that we're ranked #1 in the nation for food.

I simply don't see the rivalry to be that big of a deal at UVA I suppose, I just see more Tech kids getting into that nonsense. I am not exactly going to UVA for "the time of my life".Just saying, its #2 public school in the country and thats because I can't afford to hitch a ticket to Berkley. UVA is great for academics and the resources to do SERIOUS research. Social life is what you make of it, I don't think everybody here is snobby,you meet alot of people from different backrounds, its just a dumb stereotype. Maybe your school is more "fun", but man in the long run it won't even matter, because I love it here.

I don't think anyone who commented who goes to Tech is bashing the people who go to UVA… I just think all of us are completely in love with our school and are standing up for it!

I don't have any animosity towards UVA personally (except the whole "first year" thing does bother me), but I have a couple friends who go there and even they admit that many people there are pretty snobby. I have absolutely never heard any other Tech student say that they didn't love everything about Tech, especially the people.

And for the record, I think the hokiebird is a waaaay better mascot!

as a UVA student, i feel like i should defend my school…we're not douchebags, we just really enjoy our school's traditions that set us apart from other schools (dressing up for football games, calling it "grounds" and not "campus," being a "third year" and not a "junior", etc). it's really unfair to generalize everyone who goes here as snobs, especially if you haven't met everyone. i've met some of the nicest, most accepting and down-to-earth people ever here.

i feel like the rivalry between tech and uva is somewhat one-sided sometimes. we get a lot more animosity from tech people than we have toward them. :/
