Wardrobe Wish List: Free People Lace Bandeau

For people like me (a girl with a huge vision for her wardrobe and a very tiny bank account to work with), little-somethings to update an outfit are crucial.
It’s all about a low cost addition that has the ability to make a big impact. Maybe it’s a chain link necklace from a street vendor, a cheap but oh-so-modern neck scarf from Forever 21, or a hand-me-down that adds a new flavor to a tired outfit. When I stumble across one of these little gems, let’s just say I jump on it faster than I would Brad Pitt if we were given five minutes alone.
And alas I have stumble (and jumped on) Free people’s Lace Bandeau. It could fit inside my pocket, but packs some major punch.
The bandeau is seamlessly adorable. From the ruching at the bust to the eyelet floral lace overlay, it’s equal parts girlish ingénue and flirty femme fatale. There’s just something so sweetly sinister about the lace peeking out from underneath a loose tank or layered under a zipped up hoodie and a distressed jean jacket.
Beyond its endearing nature, the bandeau is just plain practical. How many times have we all put on a shirt only to realize that you could totally see our bra right through it? We’re going to class, not to hang out the corner and turn some tricks. So, we add a tank top underneath and then spend the rest of the day pulling it down as it rides up and silently pouting that we are adding 5 pounds to our stomachs with the bulkiness of the double layer.
The bandeau is the solution to all of our problems! Unlike our bras, it is socially acceptable to see the sweet lace peeking out from our button down cardigan or t-shirt, but we don’t have to worry about it moving all over the place or adding unneeded bulk down below. Plus, if you happen to have a last minute booty call arise (lucky you), you have instant sexy lingerie. (Note: the cute lacy underwear that ride up your butt are a nice addition. Yeah, I’m going for sexy not comfortable).
Plus it comes in eight colors, from the subdued black and taupe that are totally work appropriate to some punchy additions like neon pink, neon yellow and turquoise that will have anyone dreaming of lounging on the beach, frozen cocktail in hand.

I wish they would pick not-anorexic girls to model the clothes. This one (especially their arms) looks positively sickly.
Very cute bandeaus (or is it "bandeaux") though.

They don't look 'anorexic.' Kinda (read: more offensive than anyone using the term in that manner could EVER imagine) offensive to call all thin girls 'anorexic,' as well as the fact that it belittles a serious problem.
Though I wonder how that would ever work with anyone with boobs. Larger than a B-cup, can't really wear that unless they sell types with some kind of legit support….

those girls are of a perfect size. wow, mcd culture.

Um…they do look anorexic.
You are right that I don't imagine why you would be offended. People can get offended so easily though, so there is no point in sugarcoating your opinions. Which is what that statement is/was.
Cute top, but like Syd said, I wonder how that would work on someone with boobs haha.

I have a few of these and they are AMAZING!
They are soft, don't fall down or ride up, and are a lot more practical than double layers. Not to mention, much cuter.
Syd:
I'm a 32d/dd and the medium fits me just fine, but I always wear it with a strapless bra underneath. I have a large one too in case I'm wearing it with a push-up bra. Not taking any chances!

Her weight is fine & these pictures are all airbrushed anyway so no she does not really look 'anorexic'. Also she's in a tiny tube top nobody wants to see a plus sized model wearing that. It would be like having victoria's secret putting size 12s in their catalogue modeling all their summer bikinis, that wouldn't make sense & thats not the majority of people who are shopping for those kind of clothes..
I do agree these bandeaus are amazing, I have various colors & I wear them all the time because they go under everything that a normal bra wouldn't work with.

Kelly: Never thought of that! I'll remember that if I ever buy something like this
Everyone saying it's okay to use anorexic as an insult: if someone gets called 'fat,' even in a neutral way, people start riots in the street, even though that is a perfectly logical, factual physical description. Yet it's okay to trivialize eating disorders? Seriously, talk all you want about how 'hard' bigger girls have it, fact is, they don't have it harder than someone with a legitimate medical issue like anorexia just because the media doesn't pander exclusively towards them. That's like me saying that having short fingernails, which the fashion industry ignores completely, is worse than having cancer. Seriously, grow some compassion. And using anorexic as an insult just makes you seem so, so petty and self-absorbed. I don't believe someone who had an ounce of thought about real issues or anyone else in the world could be low enough to use a serious medical condition as an insult. People call anorexics vain, but what about the people who whine that girls who MIGHT NOT EVEN HAVE THE DISORDER get more attention than they do, wah wah wah?

is saying someone has a long torso or a high belly button politically incorrect?

I tried one of those, I really don't like the look. I prefer my boobs pushed up and together and I need some extra support (I'm a 32C, my back is too small to handle the rack!). I've never tried them with a bra, though; that might just work.
About the model, she looks unhealthyly skinny, but most models do; I sometimes use unhealthyly skinny/anorexic as sinonims, but we shouldn't. Eating dissorders are more complex than that; a girl might be eating very little and working up very hard just because she is a model and she has to, and not because she is unhappy with her body and think she's fat when she's not (that's sort of what anorexia is about). This girl looks like she could use some extra pounds, but I don't know were her HEAD is, so she might not have and eating dissorder. Eating dissorders are more about pshycological issues than physical ones.

These are the best, especially when they are neon, fluorescent, or gold. Then they are groovier than a yeah yeah yeah's concert in australia.

My body looks like that and I am certainly NOT anorexic! So yes, that comment IS offensive.

I'm the same size, and Yes it is your right to call someone anorexic. There's always ads for the plus size women, and it's okay to be bigger. Well, it's okay to be naturally skinny. Just like a "Big boned" person can not help how they are. Skinny girls can not help how they are.

I have been surfing online more than 3 hours these days, but I by no means found any attention-grabbing article like yours. It is beautiful price enough for me. Personally, if all web owners and bloggers made just right content material as you did, the net will be a lot more helpful than ever before.
