I can’t believe we are in the midst of a whirlwind Spring Break week. It seems like everyone (but me) is either
A) drinking a cocktail poolside or
B) drinking a cocktail poolside.
I know this may sound bitter but I am only human. And, in a state of mourning about the lack of travels, a human who wants a tan. On the bright side of a cloudy one - at least we can dress up during these rainy spring months in style. I know I will be.
So whether you are staying home for Spring Break this week, or you are reading this on your smart phone with your toes buried in the sand (I envy/hate you), let’s take a dive into the week that was:
- St. Paddys Day has come and gone. Sad face. (Or hungover face. Is there a face for that?) At least we didn’t break any rules. OK, at least we didn’t break too many rules.
- We looked at the reasons Gwen Stefani deserves a “You Go Girl!” salute.
- We learned some surefire signs you’re not over your significant ex.
- Now that the weather outside isn’t frightful, we discovered ways to help you get our workouts back on track. Read More »

If you’re not a huge gossiper/have a subscription to every tabloid/read the gossip blogs religiously/understand the issue that is Suri Cruise’s choice in footwear, it’s hard to understand what all your crazy, celebrity-obsessed friends are talking about. I mean, it’s hard enough to tell the Jonas Brothers apart – how does anyone keep up with Britney Spears’ relationship status (are they on? off? on? is she shaving her head again?!)?
It’s exhausting and you’ve got more important things to do than look at who Perez Hilton is drawing penises on this week. So let me help and be your Cliff’s Notes of gossip. I’ll bring you the 5 biggest Hollywood happenings of the week so you know what’s going on to the most important people on earth. (That was sarcasm, in case you didn’t get it.) Read More »
Okay, so last week I was complaining because I was anxiously waiting for this one boy to finally ask me out (which he did two days ago, thank you very much). Now the part of my life that involves boys has become slightly drastically more complicated.
Last week was my school’s spring break, and while I spent half of the time in Arizona, (where it RAINED for three out of five days), the other half was spent in Chicago with the boy that I dated all through high school.
Oh yeah, him. I can try to play it off as casually as I want, but this now single girl went through the entirety of high school being coupled. And having the boy that you dated for three years come to visit you in your new life is anything but casual.
FACT: I dated him all through high school, we fell in love and he broke my heart. Hardcore, he crushed my heart.
FACT: He has been apologizing for breaking my heart since last August, and I didn’t even respond for the first month and a half of his apologies. His persistence finallyconvinced me to respond once, and he later persuaded me into talking as ‘friends’ ever since.
FACT: I have been on so many dates and hooked up with many guys since we were over, and I have yet to find anyone that I was not comparing to him. Read More »

I don’t know about you, but when I first heard that clogs/mules were coming back in style I thought of those black Steve Madden clog/sandals with the elastic band that made your feet sound like a horse every time you walked. You know, the ones you paired with Hard Tails and then traded in for the leather platform version to pair with your Paris Blues Super Bell Bottoms come Fall uh… 1998?
So you can imagine my resistance when I saw the words CLOG splattered all over my fashion bibles. Really, Chanel? CLOGS? I do not need to do/wear anything that resembles my 1998 self in the slightest. The horror! What’s next? Butterfly clips? Lord have mercy.
But then, like all old trends that come back around, I realized the clog came with a bit of a twist. Clogs 2.0 are like Heidi Montag 2.0: Bigger, pumped up and plumped up. And some would even argue, better. These clogs are edgier, chunkier, platform-ier and all around cooler. Read More »

I have no words. None. Honestly, I’ve been staring at this photo for 15 minutes and I can’t think of one thing to say.
Can someone try to explain this? And maybe give that kid on the left something to eat?

As a mere 13-year-old with braces from ear to ear, I nervously paced down the hallways of my high school anxious for the next chapter of my life to begin. Although the next four years would be filled with nonsensical drama and lame undercover house parties, thanks to constant reminder from my parents, I knew that virtually every decision I made would be on account of my future.
I enrolled in as many honors and AP classes as possible because “colleges love to see that.” Between rounds of “binge” drinking (you know, two whole beers) on the weekends, I studied for hours to keep my grades up. Even one unacceptable grade would lower my GPA and would affect what colleges I could apply to. I made sure to partake in as many extracurricular activities as possible because as drilled into my brain, “colleges love to see that.” And rest assured, when the time came, I had two SAT tutors every week to ensure my scores were up to par. My essays were grilled to perfection and applications completed meticulously. My heart skipped a beat every time the mail was delivered while awaiting acceptance letters. Read More »

March is Women’s History Month and in honor of that we’ve been taking some time to highlight and salute some female powerhouses that inspire us. There are just so many women out there doing incredible things, which is hard to remember when women tend only to get recognized for boobs (Heidi Montag), sex scandals (Tiger’s “friends”) and weight (Jessica Simpson). But they’re out there, doing their thing and inspiring us to break down barriers, go for our goals and be our best selves.
So who are these wonderful women? This week the CollegeCandy writers share who inspires them most. Who inspires you?
Kelly – University of Iowa: Definitely my mom. She didn’t go to college but still managed to work her way up the corporate ladder to a wonderful, well-paying job and always tries to instill the same values into me.
Ness – Sheridan: As weird as it sounds, probably Sue Johanson. I’ve grown up watching her shows, and I think she’s both hilarious and incredibly smart. I just wanna hug her!
Jessica – Hofstra: Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue. She’s probably the most powerful woman in the fashion and magazine industry. She might be tough but she has also achieved an enormous amount and I can only wish to be that successful. Read More »

Looking back at the Best Actress curse.
Seduce that boy toy with these fail-proof tricks.
More cuteness from JC Penney!
This is NOT America’s Next Top Model.
Chatroulette for college kids?
So which is it - cake or pie?

[It's pretty obvious that the average CollegeCandy reader has some very strong opinions. Opinions that she likes to share with everyone on the site. We love a strong woman (unless she happens to be charging at us with her fists raised), so we thought we'd give her a real forum to discuss her thoughts, feelings, and perspectives. Every Friday I'll be featuring a hot topic (like sexting!) and leaving it up to you, the readers, to duke it out. So, read it and get your debate on in the comments section below!]
I know what you’re thinking – no, I’m not talking about really active senior citizens, I think they’re great (go Betty White!) - I’m talking about those people who hang around undergrad for 6 or 7 or 10 years “finding themselves” without ever actually bothering to get a degree. Well now, with the budgets for higher education getting slashed left and right, some states have decided it’s time for these super-seniors to get moving.
On one side of the coin, this seems like a good idea. I’m all for finding yourself and making sure that your degree is right for you. I’m also all about living the dream (read: college life) for as long as humanly possible. But some people, like that 25-year-old guy everyone on my campus knew, start using these ideas as a way to avoid going out into the real world and growing up. Read More »
