[Besides being the month of St. Patrick's Day and CollegeCandy's editor's birthday, March is Women's History Month. Instead of honoring the great women of our past, however, we at CC want to honor the women they inspired and who now inspire us. Every Wednesday this month we are going to highlight a woman who is currently dominating her field and showing us that we can really do anything. Like Chelsea Handler, the woman of late night comedy. Or Kathryn Bigelow, this year's best director. These women are strong, powerful, famous, and doing their thing even better than their male counterparts, so let's give them the attention they deserve!]
I remember lying in my bedroom and listening to No Doubt’s “Tragic Kingdom” on repeat for days at a time. I remember how excited I was when my dad surprised me with 4 tickets to the show for me and my friends. I remember watching Gwen Stefani rock out on stage in neon pants with suspenders and knowing, at that moment, that I wanted to be just like her. And that was before she became a rock superstar, solo artist, fashion designer and really awesome mom.
Now, 10 years later, I don’t have her voice, her talent, or her ability to wear crop tops (my abs are a little looser than Ms. Stefani’s….yes, even after her two children), but I am even more inspired by this Jack(ie) of all trades. And here are five reasons I salute Ms. Gwen Stefani: Read More »

Got a Dude itch you just can’t scratch? Sick of getting the pity-eyes as you sift through the Self-Help section at your campus bookstore? Over wondering what those boys are thinking? We got your back, girlfriend. Send your question over to askthedude@collegecandy.com. The Dude won’t sugarcoat it, beat around the bush, or any other weird cliche that means lie to you. Like a nice, juicy hot dog, he’ll be 100% real beef, 100% of the time. So bring it on, ladies.]
Dear Dude,
I have a new boyfriend and things are awesome, but there’s a problem. Let me preface this by saying I tend to be the problem in my relationships because even though I’ve never been cheated on or truly hurt, I still have a problem trusting guys for some reason.
With this new guy, he’s never really done anything physical with women before because he believes in waiting until marriage, and he’s never said ‘I love you’ before me. We haven’t been dating that long but we’re getting pretty serious already and he’s professes to be in love with me and wants to marry me. We’re also getting physical. So, it seems like he’s crazy about me but there’s one thing that keeps bugging me: he never talks about his exes. The only one he’s ever mentioned is now married to one of his friends. I asked him why he’s so secretive about his exes when I’m open about mine and he says “they’re not worth talking about” and “I still talk to some of them and I don’t want you to hate them.”
Is this something I should be worried about? I love him and trust him not to cheat on me, but I’d hate to be someone he settles for while being hung up on an ex he can no longer have. It could be my usual paranoia but I want to get some outside advice to make sure this isn’t a legitimate problem and I refuse to unload all my neuroses on him. Please help!!!!
-Trying not to fixate

We’ve all done it. We claim that we are the best of friends, but the truth is that we are all guilty. We sit and listen to our friends complain about their breakups, lend a shoulder to cry on, and then offer consoling words: “You can do so much better” or “he’s the one missing out, not you.” The sob-fest concludes and what do we do?
We immediately call our other friends to vent about just how annoying it is that Jill still isn’t over Jack. After all, their break up was three months ago! Can’t she just get a grip?! We vow to never act so desperate, and we wouldn’t of course, because our breakups happened around the same and we are so, totally over our ex.
But wait, are we really? Before we throw Jill down the hill for holding on too long, maybe we should read the signs to see if we aren’t exactly “over” our ex’s either:

I don’t know who is the mastermind behind the music videos for rock band, OK Go, but I want to shake his hand. After watching their treadmill video for Here It Goes Again over 20 times, I didn’t think they’d ever be able to follow it up with something nearly as awesome (without caution tape, that is). But these guys have done it again. And this one is even better.
Just watch it. You won’t be able to look away. Read More »

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, people! For those of us who can’t pour one out for our favorite Saint (well, besides Reggie Bush) thanks to a full day of classes, we need a little something else to get us by. And what “something else” is better than some “Would You Rather”?
With exams, Spring Break and, of course, green beer on the mind, give a little thought to this situation:
Would you rather get guaranteed A’s on all your finals without having to study OR get a free week-long trip to the destination of your choice for Spring Break?
Things to Consider: your future, your bank account, your tan lines.

From everyone at CollegeCandy, have a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day!
May it be filled with green beer, Irish car bombs, greasy pizza and more green beer.
Just don’t forget the rules!
Who or what inspires your style? Many of us use movie characters (like Margot Tenenbaum) or celebrities (like Courtney Love) as style inspiration, even though, most of the time, they are being dressed from head to toe by the best stylists. Which we don’t have. And sometimes it’s damn near impossible to work their Hollywood looks into our not-so-Hollywood lives. I’ve made it my mission to tap into the mind of a fashion stylist and show you how to take your style inspiration – whatever it may be – and make it more you!
Being an Italian-American myself, I’ve always been drawn to things that rep’ my ethnicity, whether it’s contributions like calzones, or “contributions” like The Jersey Shore. But if there’s one thing Italiano that I could never take my eyes off of, it was a little show called The Sopranos.
Unlike most people, however, I wasn’t obsessed with the drama, the people getting whacked; it was the style that kept me coming back week after week. (OK, and that other stuff, but Adriana La Cerva, too!)
Adriana La Cerva is the fiancée of Christopher Moltisanti, the nephew and protégé of the boss himself, Tony Soprano. Long story short, after getting caught up with the Feds and having no choice but to rat out her family-to-be, she ends up getting whacked. And somehow she still looks bad-ass during the process. There are over 100 million sites on the Internet. 100 million! You might think you know about all the important ones (CollegeCandy, Gmail, Google, Zappos…), but there are thousands of other sweet sites out there (like DailyLit, Voyij and ShopStyle). And more showing up every day! We get it – it’s not easy or fun sifting through the crap and porn to find those gems, so we’re gonna bring the gems to you. Just sit back, kick up those feet and allow us to introduce you to the diamonds in the internet rough.]
It’s only halfway through the semester, Spring Break can’t come soon enough and the stress of midterms is really starting to get you down. What could make you feel better on a particularly stressful day than getting your drink on before dinnertime? Yes, I’m talking about everyone’s favorite time of day: happy hour.
I love happy hour; one reason obviously being the no cover charges and cheap drinks (something broke college students have to take as much advantage of as possible), and also because it’s an excuse to get some beer in my system before I sit down to that frozen dinner (like any of us really needed one). But while I love my favorite go-to bars, sometimes they can get pretty old, and I’m always looking for new places to go. And thanks to the nifty website MappyHour.com, I’ve found lots of new bars to try out. Read More »
