The Morning After: The Late Night Walk of Shame

[Everyone’s got a morning after story and we wanna hear yours! Send it over to us and we’ll post it – anonymously, of course – right here!]

One night in the beginning of the semester, my roommates and I decided to drink tequila (read: my clothes would come off). A few hours in, I started to get the itch and texted the last boy I made out with. He was at a party and I was so desperate for some lovin’ that I walked there by myself. When I got there, he was making out with another girl.

But that didn’t stop me.

I hung around the party for awhile, drinking and mingling, until I finally decided this was bullsh*t and I was going home. As soon as I grew a backbone and walked out the door, he texted me to wait for him, and of course I did. He came out to meet me after 15 long minutes and we went back to his frat house.

Once in his room, things started getting hot and heavy, so I asked if he had a condom. He got up, walked over to a drawer to put one on, and then came back to continue…well, you know. Read More »

Intro to Cooking: Pineapple Chicken

If you’ve been a CollegeCandy reader for some time, you know we run our Intro to Cooking series every week, where even the most kitchen-shy co-ed can find easy, yummy recipes to please her suitemates (and sweet tooth!). Well, we’ve changed up the syllabus for Intro to Cooking: you’ll still get the fabulous recipes you love, but we’ll be including background nutritional info on specific ingredients that are must-haves in every college girl’s pantry.

This Week’s Ingredient: Pineapple!

This tropical fruit is currently in season and has an impressive nutrient and health-benefits resume:

* One cup contains more than 125% of your daily value of manganese, a nutrient that keeps bones healthy and maintains blood-sugar levels.
* One cup contains more than 40% of your daily value of vitamin C.
* Pineapple is even more useful than carrots in preventing macular degeneration, a disease which causes loss of vision.

Easy Meals

1. Chop it up and add it to Greek yogurt for a sweet-and-sour combo.
2. Drizzle some pineapple slices in maple syrup, place on an aluminum foil-lined broiler pan for 5 mins (or until brown) and serve as a delicious dessert. Read More »

CC Beauty Live: The Best Invention Ever

I have been waiting to do this review for a very long time, and I can’t tell you how excited I am about my new obsession: My Clarisonic! I’ve been wanting this beauty tool for over a year, and I finally got it for my birthday this month. I have to tell you, I will never wash my face with my hands again. This is the best thing I own. Yes, I love it even more than my T3 Evolution (and maybe as much as my boyfriend).

It’s pricey, but it’s so worth it. If you’re on the fence about this product or just looking for more information, this video is for you. I will try to be as unbiased as possible, but it might be hard considering this is the best thing that’s happened to me since I  got into college. Read More »

One Month Challenge: Shopping Ban, Week Four

Before the big clean-out. And this is only one half.

Everyone’s got a vice, a bad habit, something they know they need to change. Unfortunately, everyone also has a million excuses why they just can’t do it. Not anymore. Every month we will be following a different CollegeCandy writer as she takes on a personal challenge. This month we’re following Kelly as she proves to her mom, and her wallet, that she can go one month sans shopping.

Finally, the last week of my challenge. I never thought I’d get here without sneaking around UrbanOutfitters.com at midnight to get my window shopping fix (Okay, so maybe I did it once. Or twice.), but here I am. And surprisingly, I’m not counting down until 11:59pm, April 30th with my credit card in my hand.

In other words, it was a successful month. There was a lot more to be learned than just limiting my purchases of white shirt after white shirt after white…you get the picture. Keeping track of all of my expenses was much more eye opening than I thought.

According to my paychecks (assuming that they are correct) there are literally hundreds of dollars that I can’t account for, because Starbucks here and there is never really Starbucks here and there. Every coffee, Jimmy Johns sandwich, tequila shot, etc., adds up to a pretty shocking number in the end.  For me, the purpose of keeping tabs on my expenses this month was solely to see how much I spend without a budget. Now that I know how much I’m spending on going out every week, I can make an accurate budget to keep me from ever spending that much again. Sure, I’ll have to switch from Martini Night to $1 Draft night, but after pre-gaming, Skol tastes the same as Grey Goose anyway. Read More »

CollegeCandy’s Guide To Selling Those Books

Campus bookstores suck. They convince you that you need to buy a textbook for $150, and you’ll crack it open on that one day you were bored feeling studious, before realizing your exams are straight from the class notes/Powerpoint slides and you don’t even need that 10 pound eyesore in the first place.

No harm done, you’ll just return it, right?

Right, except that you’ll receive a measly $20 (if you’re lucky).

I for one am tired of returning my (barely opened) books for a small fraction of what I paid for them. It’s spring, and I need every extra dollar for what’s really important in college: new bikinis and happy-hour margaritas, duh! So I decided to compile a list of places to do textbook business that are better than the bookstore. Try one of these on for size and then take all that moolah to the bank (or Lulus.com). Saturday Read: ‘Will Grayson, Will Grayson,’ by John Green & David Levithan

I am a HUGE fan of John Green! I’ve previously reviewed two of his books (Paper Towns and Looking for Alaska), so when I saw that he would be writing with another YA heavy-hitter, David Levithan, I knew I had to get my hands on it. After begging publishers for an advanced reader of “Will Grayson, Will Grayson” (unsuccessfully, might I add), I surrendered and bought myself a brand new hardcover the very day it was released.

“Will Grayson, Will Grayson” tells the story of two teenage boys living in the Chicago area, both named Will Grayson. Other than their name, they have little in common, but a chance meeting one night sets into motion a series of events that changes both of their lives. The first Will Grayson that we meet is a smart, normal teenager. His best friend is a massive, gay football player ironically named Tiny, who has decided to write a musical chronicling his life being gay. Will isn’t too thrilled about this musical, especially about the character who is supposed to represent him, Gil Wrayson.

The other Will Grayson is a bit sadder; he’s living with his single mother, is on anti-depressants and is all together quite lost. All of his happiness comes from an online boyfriend, Isaac, so one night when Isaac suggests that they meet, Will Grayson is thrilled. On the same night, Tiny, the first Will Grayson and their other friend, Jane, decide to go to Chicago for a concert. However, neither of the Will Grayson’s nights go according to plan and they end up meeting.

And that’s all I’ll tell you. Read More »

Weekly Wrap Up: It Was a Good Week

Well, the week is finally over, and what a week it was. Where do I even begin? Obviously with the amazeballs Glee Madonna episode.  Sue Sylvester is seriously my hero.  Then we found this video of ‘Things I Hate’ that made me laugh until my face hurt more than after prom pictures.  It was also 4/20 and Earth Day, and I killed two birds with one stone by chowing down on Sunchips.

And now, to call the week to a close, we have a whole weekend dedicated to patio happy hours and shopping online for new spring dresses. It’s moments like these that make me happy I have a little money store in the bank.

Ahhh, the good life. Summer is really inching closer and closer and I can already smell the burnt hot dogs in the air. But before you get wrapped up catching up on Glee (they’re airing it again tonight for the many of us who missed the last few minutes thanks to stupid American Idol) or diving into the spring dresses tab on the J. Crew website (color me guilty), take a look at the awesome week that was.

- We are wondering, if Noah can chase Allie (and hang on a Ferris Wheel to get her attention) why can’t women do the same without looking like complete creepers?

- Are sick days included in the real world?  Eh, not so much.

- We argued the reasons why women shouldn’t wait for sexy time.

- Cosmopolitan came out with a ‘Sexy Issue’ this month. Yee-haw! But after reading it, we think it should be re-named the ‘Silly Issue.’ Read More »

Gossip Cheat Sheet: Can Anyone In Hollywood Do Anything Right?

When we first decided to do this whole “gossip cheat sheet” thing at CollegeCandy we never realized how appropriate that name would be. There hasn’t been a week that’s gone by since we kicked this thing off where someone in Hollywood wasn’t sticking their _______ in someone else’s ________. And this week isn’t any different.

Once again, the deets on high-profile cheating scandals are making their way out of the woodwork. Sandy is minus a wedding ring, and Elin is on her way to Sweden. So where is Shawn Southwick (Larry King’s wife) heading? To the divorce lawyer.

The good news is there’s a little more going on in the Hollywood Hills this week than all that whoring around, like advertising scandals (oooooo!), arrests (ahhhhh!), and hospitalizations (oooooyyyyy). Let’s see if I can narrow it down for you. Read More »

Single. And Sick Of Talking About Guys

"And then he was all, 'I don't know if I wanna be tied down right now...'"

Yesterday, I had a Skype date with one of my old friends from high school. It’s always fun to catch up with random high school acquaintances, but as I hung up after our chat, I was struck by the realization that all we had talked about was boys. That’s it! I heard all about her new boyfriend and how cute he is, and she asked about all of my boy dilemmas. Now, granted trading boy stories and dilemmas is always fun – it is something that girls bond over – it is by no means the most important thing going on in my life, let alone the only thing! So why is it something that I feel like I am constantly discussing?

I feel like nearly seventy percent of my daily conversations with my friends revolve around men. To be fair, I seem to be everyone’s go-to person for boy advice (sometimes I feel like I should start charging by the minute or something…), but still, even taking that into account, we as girls spend too much time worrying and over-analyzing the male species.

Now, don’t get me wrong; I am as guilty of it as any of my friends! It is one of our weaknesses as girls, to examine every text, chat, and voicemail for the smallest inkling of information:

“Wait, and what did he say next.”
“‘Let’s talk soon.’”
“Was there a period? An exclamation point?”
“No, there was nothing.”
“Hm, that’s a tough one.”

While I understand this need to analyze everything under a microscopic lens, I am tired of talking about boys all the time. There is so much more to me than my relationship status, and sometimes it can be easy to forget that. Read More »
