Scientifically you are attracted to those who smell like you but not too close. We are genetically/instinctively set up to avoid incest. And you can definitely notice trends that you are attracted to those who look similar to your opposite-sex parent…although actually being attracted to your dad is very Freudian.

I actually just read a study that proved that we're not attracted to our family members based on scent. Our family members smell too much like us so that's why we're not attracted to them. The study included a bunch of different sweat smells (gross, I know) of different subjects including the test subjects brother/dad/uncle. The woman said she disliked the related person's scent the most without knowing that they shared DNA. It's pretty interesting.
