Baggin’ Out: Rebecca Minkoff Nikki
Every girl needs a good purse. Whether you’re going for groceries or running from class to class, they are simply essential for holding all your, uh, essentials. Now, clutches and tiny crossbody bags are convenient when you don’t have much to carry, but what about when you’re lugging around textbooks? Every college girl understands the challenge that is finding a chic and stylish purse that also fits all your junk.
That’s where the Rebecca Minkoff ‘Nikki’ comes in.
Rebecca began designing purses in 2005 after a successful run in the indie apparel world. Her bags caught on like wildfire (thanks to her creatively designed/named ‘Morning After Bag’) and are now among the most coveted out there. Purse afficianados (me!) wait in suspense for the newest Minkoff line every season. However, Rebecca also knows what her fans want and keeps her classics in rotation, adding new, fun colors every season.
The Nikki is part of this Classic line and rightly so. It’s a hobo-style that rebeccaminkoff.com say is “As slouchy as your Sunday jeans and as vibrant as the smile on your face when you carry it.” How cute is that?! (I know, I have a total purse crush on the entire Rebecca Minkoff team!) They all sport the buckle hardware on both sides, and you can also get styles with linear or circular studs, adding a touch of rocker chic to the mix.
With details like that, it’s no surprise The Nikki is also a celeb favorite. “It girls” like Leighton Meester, Halle Berry and Lauren Conrad are constantly spotted lugging ‘em around.
But, and there’s always a but, this purse is for more than just stylish celebrities. It’s perfect for the busy college girl on the go. With generous dimensions (19′ wide x 15′ tall x 4′ deep), trust me, you can fit multiple textbooks in it. Don’t believe me? Check out my little experiment with my Nikki below.
I was able to fit 5 textbooks in the Nikki AND leave room for all my extras, like a wallet, makeup bag, etc. I’m impressed!
It also happens to be gorgeous! Rebecca Minkoff uses high-quality leathers, so her bags always look luxe, but won’t run you into the Louis Vuitton/outrageous price range. I truly don’t believe that these bags photograph as beautiful as they are; my Black Cat leather (love the name) is so smushy and just beautiful in person.
If you’re interested, the Nikki is available on rebeccaminkoff.com for $495, however, lots of retailers like Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Saks, etc., carry Minkoff’s line, as well as e-tailers like asteralice.com. (And if you use CollegeCandy’s favorite shopping site, Ebates, you can get cash back on your purchase! Holler!) Also, these bags are often seen on subscriber sale sites like gilt.com (click here to join) or even at your local Nordstrom Rack. In other words, they are highly accessible!
I love my Rebecca Minkoff Nikki. I feel super stylish carrying it and know that it is a staple that will be in my wardrobe for years!
