We all have our go-to stores that we, uh, go to when we need to stock up on some new wardrobe essentials (or when we just have an hour to kill and the mall reaches out and wraps us in its warm embrace). But what about all those other stores? The ones that you walk past on your way to Auntie Anne’s without a second glance? The “mom” stores, the old lady department stores, the stores that don’t start with “Forever” and end with “21″? Surprise! Many of those stores are filled with major cuteness that you’re missing out on! (Except Chico’s – keep walking, little lady.) We know you’re not one to pass up a cute cami, so we scoured these under-the-radar shops and pulled out all the goodness you never realized existed.
I’m not going to lie, I don’t often shop at JCPenney. Because, well, I’ve always sort of seen JCPenney as Macy’s less cool, less interesting younger sibling. I’ve seen some cute stuff in their windows as I pass them by on occasion but nothing that ever made me think, I need to go in there. And their clothes are cheaper, yes, and the they’re not all bad, but finding the cute ones just seemed like a lot of work.
Shopping online, however solves that problem. All I have to do is search, point, and click. And I’m really glad I did. Because JCPenney has some surprisingly cute (see what I did there?) stuff. Plus their website has some great features of their own: A place to find all the pieces People Style Watch has featured in their magazine. A feature that lets you search for dresses based on body type. And a swimsuit collection that makes me wish I lived at the beach. (Not that I didn’t already wish that.) You name it, they’ve got it. In the coolest colors and the latest trends. In florals and animal prints and bright, bright colors. Bikinis and bracelets. Tankinis and tanks. See for yourself! Read More »
CollegeCandy is turning 4 this year (which in blogging years makes us about 108) and we’re so excited to be celebrating with all our fans, all 1.3 million of them, that we’re throwing a birthday party. And unlike your frenemy who throws a birthday party and expects you to buy her drinks all night, we’re just happy that you’re here. So happy that we’re giving away presents on our own birthday.
I know, I know, we’re TOO GOOD to you.
So in honor of us being around for, like, ever, we’re asking you to pick your favorite CollegeCandy post of all time. The second you post it on our Facebook wall, you’re eligible for so many awesome gifts!
Right before I sat down to write this I opened a letter (yes because apparently people still send those) informing me that come April I will be able to pick up my cap and gown. I looked at the letter, rolled my eyes, and thought April? Really? Why are they sending me this now when I don’t need to pick it up until April? But still I opened up my Google Calendar and went to plug in the date. But oh wait…what’s that?
And that doesn’t even account for all the days off I have coming up.
Currently, I’m enjoying a five-day weekend. I’ll head into class one day next week, and then two more the week after, and then it’s Spring Break time. And when I get back there will only be three more weeks of March. And then it’s April. A month filled with weeks shortened by Easter and Passover holidays. The month I thought was oh so far away. The month I can pick up my cap and gown. My last month of undergraduate classes. My last month as a college student. Maybe April is closer than I thought. I mean, how did we even get to February already anyway?
Inspired by the recent and effective Egyptian protests, more and more Middle Eastern countries are being consumed by rallies. Bahrain, Libya and Yemen were most prominent in the news this week, though protests are happening in numerous countries including Jordan, Tunisia, Iran, just to name a few. In many of these countries, the governments are responding to the peaceful protesters with extreme violence. In Libya, for example, the six days of political unrest has resulted in over 200 deaths, many caused by pro-government security forces. The anti-government fury has even begun to spread beyond the Mid-East. In China, plans for the “Jasmine Revolution” were unsuccessful on Saturday when less than a hundred showed up to protest, though organizers say there is more to come. There are a lot of different, complicated stories to keep track of here, and by far the easiest resource I’ve found to help keep up-to-date on this is an interactive map from CNN.
In a man versus machine Jeopardy! showdown, a computer named Watson took down two past champions. Watson, which (or who?) was created by IBM scientists over four years, ended the game with $77,147, while well-known champ Ken Jennings came in second with $24,000. Scientists at IBM say not to worry- computers aren’t quite able to take over the world yet. The win, though, is an indication of the ever-improving technology that will lead to faster and better access to information in the future. I’m imagining little mini-Watsons we can all carry in our pockets one (exam) day, although the original did cost somewhere above $30 million to create. Read More »
I don’t know about you, but whenever I have one too many PB&J sandwiches (or bowls of ice cream in the caf) it goes straight to my thighs. I can almost feel the glucose molecules shimmy their way down to my legs…and then I’m left shimmying into my favorite pair of Sevens. It’s uncomfortable, it’s frustrating and it leaves me feeling guilty.
Which is why this week, in honor of post V-day chocolate consumption and cold weather, here are a few easy at-home workouts that not only target everyone’s least favorite trouble spots (i.e. the butt and thighs), but you can bust out during HIMYM commercials! Who said getting fit had to be hard?? Read More »
That’s why your classes were canceled today, in case you were wondering. And why mattresses are “60% off TODAY ONLY!” So while we sleep in and high school students get a week off, and the rest of the world remembers all the great things our nation’s leaders have done for us, I’m going to do some remembering of my own, but remembering a bit closer to home…
Remember (see I told you) when you were a little kid and you use to have to write those essays about what you did over summer vacation, what you wanted to be when you grew up, and oh yeah, what you would do if you were president for a day? Well, I’m finally getting around to writing mine. (Because I don’t know what else to do with myself now that I’ve finished my senior thesis.) In honor of Presidents’ Day I present to you, the top ten things I would change if I were president.
Disclaimer: This list is not to be taken seriously. These are not serious suggestions nor are they things I would ever actually consider doing if I were in such a situation of power. It’s just a little bit of fun. Read More »

The best thing about New York City in the middle of a very cold and dreary February is, obviously, Fashion Week. And it also happens to be the best thing about being an unpaid intern. This year I got the opportunity to cover a few fashion shows and presentations for my internship — and believe me when I say I couldn’t have been more excited to take on this particular task.
There is nothing quite like NY Fashion Week — the tents are full of a mix of sleep-deprived reporters, stylish socialites, celebrities surrounded by onlookers, and cranky photographers hauling around a ton of equipment. It’s pretty much the most glamorous trainwreck you’ll ever see and little ol’ intern me couldn’t look away. That is, until the doors opened and it was time for the main event. Let me tell you, even if you’re not into fashion (which I totally am), there is nothing like the energy you feel watching a fashion show, from the beginning when you’re waiting around for it start (always expect them to be at LEAST a half-hour late), until the end when you’re giving a standing ovation to a truly beautiful collection. Just knowing I was witnessing something so incredible, something that many people never have the opportunity to see up close, sent chills down my achy-from-walking-in-my-too-high-heels spine.
