Baggin’ Out: Gentle Fawn Fever

Every girl needs a good purse (or 12). Whether you’re going for groceries or running from class to class, they are simply essential for holding all your, uh, essentials. Each week, I’m going to show you a fashionable, yet functional purse for the college crowd and let you know why you absolutely need it! I apologize ahead of time to your bank account.
Since the weather is heating up (even in Northern Ontario!), I’ve been on the lookout for cute, summer purses to feature. That means something that I can sling over my shoulder and tote around whether I’m walking along the beach, riding the rollercoaster at an amusement park or out for a night on the town with my gals. And I think I’ve found that in the Gentle Fawn Fever Bucket Bag!
Gentle Fawn is a line created by Daniel and Carla Hogg. In 2003, they were wandering around a thrift shop and found a set of antique ceramic fawns, which inspired the name of their company. Their main goal is to provide clothes and accessories that are both fashionable and functional, while incorporating inspiration from nature and city into their designs. With 500 stores selling their products across North America and a European market on the verge of exploding, Gentle Fawn is an up and coming design team to keep your eye on.
After reading a bit more about the design aesthetic of Gentle Fawn, I can definitely see all of it in the Fever bag. Obviously it’s fashionable and totally in line with the “gypsy” trend this summer, but it’s also functional. And the mixing of city and nature: where else are you going to see a tan bucket bag with braiding details and studs? Nature + City = Fabulous!

Fever comes in a gorgeous taupey-tan (featured) and also black. I already have too many black bags, so the neutral was a no-brainer. It measures 11.25 L x 13 H, making it a classic “bucket” shape and a small-to-medium sized bag. It appears to be somewhat tiny, but trust me, you can fit a boatload of stuff into this purse. I took it out shopping on Monday and not only was I able to fit my wallet, makeup bag and purse essentials (gum, lipgloss, pens, etc), but I also fit a couple purchases in it! Inside, there is a back zip pocket and two zip pockets on the front side. The main compartment closes with a zipper, but there is also another pocket on the entire backside of the bag with a magnetic closure for easy access.

The bag itself is super lightweight and made from faux leather. It looks super supple and is crinkled to give it a vintage feel. The detailing I alluded to above is probably my favorite part. The braided material on the corners of both the front and back just screams “Stevie Nicks,” who is one of my personal style icons, but the criss-cross loops with studs at the top keep it modern. I’ve got a couple tribal maxi dresses in the mail right now and I can imagine how amazing they will look paired with the Gentle Fawn Fever bag and a pair of cork wedges. But of course, I’m always looking for a versatile bag, so this one also looks fab with a black leather jacket, a tight dress and sky-high stilettos.
I’m so excited about the Gentle Fawn Fever purse and all the wonderful times I’m going to have with it this summer. I have a funny feeling that it’s going to end up in most of my pictures, because there is no denying it’s versatility and great style! If you’re in Canada, check out Sterling Shoes locations, and for all you US ladies, the Fever is available at many online retailers, so just Google away!
