Make Nutrition Month Last Even Longer (Giveaway)

So you all know that March is National Nutrition Month, right? You’ve all been trading out the stale pizza and beer in your fridge for quinoa and smoothies, right!?!

WHAT? NO!?

Well don’t fret! Just because National Nutrition Month is coming to an end, doesn’t meant we’re not still here to help you eat healthy. I mean, we’re all about squeezing in a few whole grains and leafy greens in between kegs and eggs and late night wings. That’s why we’re teaming up with Better Oats, a brand new oatmeal brand, dedicated to helping you stay healthy. In fact, they’re so dedicated to helping you stay healthy, they’re offering one very lucky CollegeCandy reader a ONE MONTH SUPPLY OF FREE OATMEAL. Come again?! Yes, a month supply of a healthy, nutritious, and, dare we say it, DELICIOUS breakfast.

Wanna win? Here’s how to enter:

1. Leave a comment below telling us the grossest breakfast you’ve ever eaten and the flavor of Better Oats you most want to try. (Click here to see the full flavor list.) Like, something so gross and so unhealthy that we feel compelled to send you a month’s supply of Better Oats free oatmeal. That’s it. You’re automatically entered if you do that. Oh, and make sure to use your real e-mail address so we can contact you if you win. Read More »

Body Blog: How Much Soy is Too Much Soy?

These days the type of milk to put in your cereal or pair with your latte is confusing. I hear more and more people in line with me at the ‘Bucks ordering their lattes with soy. At the grocery store, I see those around me grabbing for soy “chicken” nuggets, soy “sausage,” soy ice-cream and soy based cheeses and coffee creamer. I’m surprised that soy hasn’t infiltrated our pre-games with soy-tinis or soy beer. Though I’m sure that’s next.

On one hand, it feels like a GREAT move for people; stepping away from non-organic dairy and meat, both of which are often pumped with hormones and antibiotics and really are just not good for you (or the animals and the environment). But is switching everything out for soy products the answer?

Soy is found in just about EVERYTHING these days. So much so that soy consumption in the U.S. has skyrocketed since the early 1990s. Sales climbed from $300 million in 1992 to over $4 billion in 2008. It’s cheap to produce (mainly because the government subsidizes its growth) and is in tons of packaged products. Seriously, check your food labels in your cabinet; I’m willing to bet Soy Lecithin or Soy Protein Isolate (SPI) is in a lot of things you wouldn’t even think would have soy in it! Read More »

The Weekly Ten: Predicting Celebrity Meltdowns

Okay. So by now we’re all aware of Charlie Sheen’s major meltdown. His in-house goddesses. His tiger blood. His reinvention of the word ‘winning.’ Charlie Sheen is having a major moment. He’s also having a major meltdown. And it’s newsworthy right now, but he’s also just the most recent celeb to meltdown in a long line of many.

Britney Spears. Lindsay Lohan (now simply known as ‘Lindsay’). Michael Jackson. Tom Cruise. There have been some pretty major meltdowns before Charlie and there will be some pretty major meltdowns after him. But who will be meltdowning? Well, I’m glad you asked. Because that’s just what this week’s Weekly Ten is trying to predict.

Let’s have a look.

10. Rebecca Black. Honestly, I barely even know who this girl is. But her name is all over Twitter and apparently she’s the new Justin Bieber? Or the most hated Tween in the world? Whatever. It’s only a matter of time before this young soon-to-be-celeb melts down.

9. PINK. She’s on here only because of a recent tweet she posted after Cristina was arrested. “Out of Myself, Britney and Christina — didn’t everyone think I was gonna be the troublemaker? LOOK MA!!! NO CUFFS!” Funny, Pink. Very Funny.  I was amused. But don’t count your crazy chickens before they’ve hatched.

National Deals for Students!

If we could only use one word to describe college students it would be “drunk.” Wait. I mean, it would be “broke.” (Though “drunk” is also pretty spot on.) Between the cost of a college education, the books to get that education, and the drinks that come along with that education, most college students don’t have much money left to do the one thing we love most…shop!

But that might not be the case now that I’m on the case. You see, lots of national retailers offer discounts and cash back for college students. And I mean lots! I spent the past few hours scouring the web and discovered a whole host of stores, many of which I shop at regularly, that offer up to 20% off just for being a broke-ass college student. And after kicking myself for not knowing about these deals sooner, I’ve put them into a handy list we can all take advantage of them now.

Bookmark this thing, ladies! Read More »

The 10 Glorious Ways to Drink a Beer

It’s not hard to enjoy a beer. Just crack that baby, open your mouth and – boom – enjoyed. But thanks to college students’ never ending stream of ingenuity (or their need to drink as much cheap beer as possible without actually tasting it), there’s a wide variety of ways to indulge in the nectar of the gods. (Which, disturbingly, includes through your butt.)

So go grab a cold one from the fridge, crack it open, and stay with us as we outline the many wonderful (and a few questionable) ways to drink a beer.

Intro to Cooking: DIY Granola

Maybe because it’s supposed to be spring and it’s currently snowing outside (WTF!?), but I’ve been thinking an awful lot about Christmas recently. Then I got hungry. That’s because my go-to homemade gift for Christmases of yore has been homemade granola. What’s not to love? It’s healthy, hip, cute, and – well – tasty! Plus, it’s incredibly versatile; use it as a fro yo topping, a healthy between-classes snack, over milk for breakfast… the possibilities are endless.

If the weather’s got you down, stay in and make some of this stuff!

Ingredients:
(Serves two hungry munchers)

1 cup slow-cooking oatmeal (dry)
½ cup shredded coconut (optional)
1/3 cup raisins
¼ cup chocolate chips
1 banana
2 TBS maple syrup

CC Beauty Live: Fix Your Broken Makeup

We’ve all been there: you’re putting on your makeup and all of a sudden you drop your compact. You hesitate to pick it up, scared of what you’ll see inside. And sadly, when you peek inside, all you can see is crushed product.  Then, of course, you spill half of it in your makeup bag.  Well that’s just great.

After you cry a little inside, what are you supposed to do? You just spent $25 on that nice, high-end blush and now it’s broken.

Well, why not fix it?
As our country’s President once said: Yes. We. Can.

Fixing your broken makeup is easy.  All you need is rubbing alcohol, a piece of paper, something to grind up the product with, and a plastic bag. In only a few simple steps, your makeup will be good as new again.

See? Easy. Never buy new product again! If there’s anything else beauty related that you need fixing, let me know in the comments!

Got something you want me to cover? Post it in the comments below. And don’t forget to follow us on YouTube and check out my other videos right here! And for more beauty related tips, check out my websiteand follow me on Twitter!
