I love me a bold print, so I’m shakin’ in my leopard maxi dress over the variety of fabulous prints coming at us this spring (if it ever comes). There are so many prints to choose from: animal prints, prints of animals, florals, abstract, paisley, tribal, stripes, polka dots and any other design you could possibly imagine. They come in all colors, on items of all types, meaning there are unlimited ways to incorporate prints into your look this spring.
You can even wear them mixed together. Crazy, I know!
While there are many prints that make a big statement, there are also many that are more subtle. A smaller, daintier print might be for you if you’re not looking to draw a lot of attention, or go for a big, bold pattern if you want to have all eyes on you when you enter a room. After all, there’s nothing wrong with drawing attention from the amazingly bold dress you’re wearing… unless it’s because you’re falling out of it.
If you’re up for the challenge, mix things up. How, you ask? By choosing prints in similar shades/complimentary colors. When you do that, the patterns look more like neutrals and you end up with a seriously interesting and appealing look. You ready to get your print on (literally)? Here are 15 of my favorite printed looks for spring. Read More »

There’s been a reoccurring trend in the fashion world lately. Shoes are getting higher and higher these days. Three inches? Four inches? Five inches? I’ve even seen six inch heels that are now considered chic. And while they look great on the pages of Elle and Vogue and in that online shopping cart you start but never check out, when taken out of context they might not look so chic. In fact, they might actually look like, well… stripper heels.
Laugh all you want but these days there’s a fine line between chic and cheap, between designer heels and stripper heels of the exact same height.
Think you can tell the difference? Test your knowledge. I promise, it’s not as easy as you think!
Whether you’re graduating this spring or you’re hunting for a summer internship, you’re probably stressed about acing your interviews. To help alleviate some of that stress, we reached out to the experts from Excelle and asked them for their tips on making a great first impression. Check back every Thursday for more helpful career tips and articles!
This is another broad interview question that can take you down the wrong road unless you’ve done some thinking ahead of time. This question is purely about selling yourself. Think of yourself as the product. Why should the customer buy?
The Wrong Track
Spencer answers by saying, “Because I need and want a job.” That’s nice, but the bottom line here is, “What can you do for us?”
Mariana says, “I’m a hard worker and really want to work for this company.” The majority of people think of themselves as hard workers — and why this company?
The Right Track
Tom’s answer to this question is, “Because I’m a good fit for the position.” Getting warmer, but more details, please.
Sharon answers, “I have what it takes to solve problems and do the job.” This is the best answer so far. Expand on this, and you’ve got it.

In honor of Women’s History Month, CollegeCandy has decided to spotlight some of the world’s most influential women. First, naturally, we focused on the women from our generation. Then, we highlighted some fierce females in their 30s. After that we celebrated the phenomenal women in their 40s. And now we’re cheering on the women who inspire us to be our best selves every single day. Anything can happen, and just like these women have done in their 50s and beyond, we can make a difference in the world at any age.
Let’s talk about student athletes.
With March madness at its peak right now this topic probably doesn’t seem like all that much of a stretch to you, but you might be surprised by the direction this topic is going in…
Should student athletes be paid?
Jalen Rose, ESPN/ABC studio analyst, member of University of Michigan’s Fab Five, and the writer of this piece seems to think so. And while my first response to that question was an undignified snort, I have to say that after reading his points, I might be reconsidering my stance.
My immediate reaction was absolutely not. Sports are an extracurricular activity that students choose to take part in. Just like the school paper or honors societies or student government. They do is because they enjoy it. Or if they don’t have a love of the game, they’re often very good at the game, and they do it because they get a scholarship for playing that game. Full tuition paid? A free education? That was their payment. What more could they possibly need?
But Rose offers some good points. He argues that being a student athlete is a full time job. (CollegeCandy reader and student athlete, Chelsea, agrees.) Rigorous training schedules, practices, and games take up the majority of these students’ time, far more time than most other extracurricular activities take up. And the free time they do have is often spent in class or studying for classes. They do have to maintain a respectable GPA, after all. Rose points out something we all know but never seem to truly grasp: student athletes don’t have much free time. And as the sister of someone who played high school football for four years, I have to agree. If high school football left my brother without much time to do anything but eat, sleep, and breathe football, then I can’t even imagine the demands that come along with being on a college team. The time has come to put away the self tanner and slow down the fist pumping. Tonight is the season finale of Jersey Shore. Waaaaah (Snooki voice). Season 3 of everyone’s guilty pleasure has brought us a lot of drama, a lot of toilet issues (from Deena’s constipation to JWoww’s public urination to Ronnie’s bowel movements on steroids), and a LOT of smushing.
Which makes me wonder…
The gorillas of the shore house obviously get it in with a lot of grenades chicks, but are they any good? I mean, get past the abs (Pauly/Sitch), the arms (RonRon) and the giant cannoli (Vinny) – do these boys really know how to please a lady? I mean, Ronnie’s got to be good; why else would Sam keep coming back for more? And Vinny’s obviously got something going on to leave Snooks in tears. But what about Sitch? Or Pauly? With all that practice, they’ve got to know what they’re doing, right? Read More »
Every girl needs a good purse (or 12). Whether you’re going for groceries or running from class to class, they are simply essential for holding all your, uh, essentials. Each week, I’m going to show you a fashionable, yet functional purse for the college crowd and let you know why you absolutely need it! I apologize ahead of time to your bank account.
Since the weather is heating up (even in Northern Ontario!), I’ve been on the lookout for cute, summer purses to feature. That means something that I can sling over my shoulder and tote around whether I’m walking along the beach, riding the rollercoaster at an amusement park or out for a night on the town with my gals. And I think I’ve found that in the Gentle Fawn Fever Bucket Bag!
Gentle Fawn is a line created by Daniel and Carla Hogg. In 2003, they were wandering around a thrift shop and found a set of antique ceramic fawns, which inspired the name of their company. Their main goal is to provide clothes and accessories that are both fashionable and functional, while incorporating inspiration from nature and city into their designs. With 500 stores selling their products across North America and a European market on the verge of exploding, Gentle Fawn is an up and coming design team to keep your eye on.
After reading a bit more about the design aesthetic of Gentle Fawn, I can definitely see all of it in the Fever bag. Obviously it’s fashionable and totally in line with the “gypsy” trend this summer, but it’s also functional. And the mixing of city and nature: where else are you going to see a tan bucket bag with braiding details and studs? Nature + City = Fabulous! Read More »

Gettin' some doesn't come cheap.
With the latest events surrounding Planned Parenthood, I’ve been thinking a lot about how much it costs to be responsibly sexually active. Birth control, condoms, PAP smears, STI tests, and Plan B — it adds up fast!
In Canada, the cost of medical tests are usually covered under our provincial health care. As far as birth control goes, my school’s health insurance plan covers the vast majority of the cost every month, leaving me to pay a tab that usually ends up anywhere between $3 and $5.
But for Americans without access to insurance or an institution like Planned Parenthood, the cost of having a healthy active sex life can be huge. Prices tend to vary from place to place, but according to the Planned Parenthood website, here are some ball-park figures of how expensive it is to get sexy:
Standard medical exam (needed in order to receive a BC prescription): $35-$250
The Pill: $15 – $50 per month
NuvaRing: $15 – $70 per month
Depo-Provera: $35 – $75 per injection (4 injections per year)
Ortho Evra (the patch): $15 – $70 per month Read More »
