6 Signs You’re Suffering From Senioritis

There are a lot of different illness associated with different times of the year. There’s flu season in the winter. Allergy season in the spring. Sunburns in the summer. But around early April and May a different disease starts to take hold, and it goes after a very specific group.

College seniors.

It’s serious and it spread quickly. But the problem is the symptoms can at first appear so subtle that college students may not even notice they have them. Their regular behavior is simply heightened. So when going about their normal, every day lives they don’t even realize that they’re actually struggling with senioritis. That’s why they can’t write that paper or concentrate in class. That’s why everything seems impossible. If  you’re a college senior and this, or any of the signs below sound familiar to you, you may be suffering from senioritis. (And no, we don’t recommend looking up your symptoms on WebMD. Just check out our senioritis bucket list instead.)

1. Oversleeping. Your alarm goes off so you press the snooze button. And then you press again. And then again. And then you glance at the clock and realize your class starts in five minutes…and then you roll over and go back to sleep.

2. The desire to never do anything productive anything again. The other night, instead of watching the movie I was supposed to watch for class I spent the night watching the entire first season of Brothers and Sisters on Netflix instant play. It seemed like an excellent idea at the time.

I’m in College and I’m in LOVE

As corny as it sounds it’s the real deal and true to my life. It’s been three years and I feel like I’ve known my boyfriend a lifetime.  We actually went to the same high school but didn’t really know each other. Back then, I was friends with the popular “mean girls” and we pretty much socialized with each other and our typical, jock, male counterparts. Back then, he was the “friends-with-everyone” good guy that pretty much stuck to his smart, quirky (in a good way), laid-back clique. Luckily, college brought us together.

We were both freshman at the same university and when you’re walking around an unfamiliar campus with 40,000+ students, a familiar face seems like your best friend. We ran into each other ALL the time, literally. If we weren’t bumping into each on the streets of campus or at a party, it was in the chemistry lab or library. Our frequent run-ins turned into small chit-chat which led to Facebook friending, which led to AIM chatting, which led to hanging out one-on-one, which led to hooking up, which led to introducing each other to our friends, which brought us to where we are now — happily in love!

When you’re in love and in college, YOU GET THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS! I honestly couldn’t put it any other way. And now that I think about it…I wouldn’t have it any other way either. I’ve been able to party and live up the college experience while feeling secure knowing I’ve had my man by my side the whole time. It took time to find a healthy balance between class, sex, and beer but we found it (and we rank them in that order). We still have different groups of BFFs (some mutual friends to kick it with sometimes too) and are each dedicated to different organizations on campus so we have to go our separate ways sometimes, but it’s healthy. Besides, for whatever reason, there’s something sexy about not seeing your boo all day and then meeting up later.

Being in a serious relationship during college hasn’t always felt like luxury, but it’s always felt like love. I can’t count the number of times our dates consisted of ordering in the cheapest, fattiest foods (Gumby’s ring a bell?) or cramming in the library for two days straight with bag lunches. I know that someday I’ll be able to look back on these cheap date memories of undergrad and know that I spent them with my best friend and my lovah! Talk about having your cake and eating it too.

Are you in college and in looovvee? Are you even ready for loveWondering what love means these days? Share it all below!

Now Showing: Fast Five

My guy friends convinced me that I needed to go to a midnight showing of Fast Five in IMAX. Not my typical genre of choice, but I was pleasantly surprised with the film. Unfortunately, the projector broke before the end, so I can’t tell you how (allegedly) awesome the final car chase scene was. But I can tell you how cool it was to watch everyone in the theater throw cups at the screen…

Fast Five picks up with fugitive Dominic Toretto’s struggle to break out from prison and his subsequent hide out in Rio. Of course “one last job” must happen and a gang is brought together to rob Rio’s top drug lord. American FBI Agent Hobbs, played by Dwayne Johnson, comes to Rio to track down Toretto. Car chases and explosions ensue. Alright, it’s not that complex, but it’s pretty cool to watch.

And just to prove to you guys that I’m not ashamed to admit I’m wrong (Birthers, I’m looking at you to follow my lead), I bring you the list of the week.

Top 4 reasons why I shouldn’t have judged Fast Five by its cover (…or trailer…): Read More »

Spring is in full swing and summer fashion is right around the corner! While we love our skirts, dresses, and rompers for warm weather, there’s nothing easier to wear or style than a great pair of shorts. Sometimes, however, it’s best to keep things classic with denim shorts. As all savvy college fashionistas know, classic doesn’t have to mean boring!

Single Girl Society: Forget Happily Ever After

Lesson 21: Forget Happily Ever After

Disney princesses from Cinderella to Sleeping Beauty, even Nala of The Lion King, have taught us from our childhood to look forward to some sort of “happily ever after.” Since our days of insisting on wearing our Disney princess Halloween costumes at completely inappropriate times (like your uncle’s wedding) we’ve desperately clung onto the notion that “happily ever after” would someday be all ours. As teenagers we claimed not to care about Prince Charming while we secretly screened each boyfriend, wondering if he was going to be the last man standing in our own charmed versions of a Disney romance. Now in college, we’re in the process of making our dreams come true and yet somehow Prince Charming keeps slipping through our fingers in a not-so-Disney fashion.

Believe me girl, I’ve been there.

Look, “happily ever after” is great and all, but how can you place so much happiness on something you haven’t even had yet? Every time you fuel the fire on achieving your own happy ending, you take away from the happiness you already have. Read More »

Last Minute Internship Hunt TIps

If you don’t have an internship by now, you’re probably checking your inbox every five seconds waiting to hear some good news. Though it’s discouraging, all hope isn’t lost. Internships are a dime a dozen, from the smallest county newspapers to the biggest magazines in Manhattan. With a little persistence and a lot of patience, scoring a last-minute internship is totally doable.

Do your Research

If you haven’t created a profile on Internships.com or subscribed to Ed2010.com’s RSS feeds, do that right now. These websites have the inside scoops to the latest postings. Sending your resume when you’re ready to submit won’t get the job done. The trick is to submit your application at peak points of the day—early in the morning and before the lunch time rush. If you send it at the end of the day (or even worse, the end of Friday), hiring managers are less likely to look closely. It’s like when your professor starts saying something REALLY important with 3 minutes left in class. You and I both know that no one is listening. (Check out other job hunting mistakes right here)

School Connections

Visit your school’s Office of Career Development or the Career Services Center, every college’s center has a different name, but these centers have awesome resource to find internships. The professionals there can usually help you spruce up your uber-important resume and cover letter, too.

Budget Stylista: Graduation Stylin’

It’s cap and gown time! Pomp and circumstance! Diplomas and “OMG, college is over” tears. Which means now is a perfect time to get some items for your ‘drobe that don’t consist of sorority letters written in neon over your badonk-a-donk or look best when paired with a messy bun on the top of your head look. I know, I know – generally speaking, these types of clothes don’t really exist in college girls’ wardrobes; we primarily have a routine of sweats in the day, cleavage baring tops paired with skinny jeans or mini-skirts at night.

I SO hear you, but for your big “See, Mom and Dad; I did do (a little) more these past for years than just drink!” moment, a little more conservativeness/put togetherness is necessary. Not to mention you will need these types of clothes for your big debut as a “real” person functioning in the real world. And not the MTV Real World where our former college girl ways and wardrobes are encouraged.

But just because you have to dress it up, doesn’t mean you have to lose a sense of style! Here are three great looks for graduation day/weekend that are femme, fun and flirty (in a more subdued way). Read More »

WTF Friday: Why Would You EVER Get This Tattoo?

Well. Let’s hope this guy was drunk and/or high when he decided to get this gem of a tattoo. Let’s also hope that he didn’t decorate any other orifices on his body.  Because if this belly button one is making me vom, I don’t even want to know what a below-the-belt tat would look like…
