Okay, so a couple of weeks ago my weekly ten listed my top ten worst chick flicks ever. And you ladies had some pretty strong reactions to it and some pretty varied opinions. But amidst all those opinions I’m pretty sure I got the idea that you like chick flicks. And so do I. (Just not those.)

I love chick flicks. Lots of them. There are so many amazing movies about women and for women, some about love, and some about life, that are labeled as chick flicks. And I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve watched them more times than I can keep track of.

So with that in mind I thought I’d dedicate this week’s weekly ten to my favorite chick flicks of all time. Some are recent and some are not so recent,  but they’re all pretty damn great.

10. Miss Congeniality. Oh Sandra Bullock, how I love you! It’s refreshing to watch a movie and see a woman who’s more comfortable holding a gun than she is walking in heels. She doesn’t need a man, but she gets one any way and that’s kind of great. Don’t you think?

9. Thelma and Louise. Girl power, ladies. Girl power. This is a story about friendship and fun (and felonies). Even if they do end up driving off a cliff together at the end of it, they do it together, right? Oh don’t look at me like that. It’s a fun movie.

Eating food is an important part of everyone’s life. But for college students, it can really be a challenge considering we are working with some serious restrictions: time, money, and materials. This week, I’m going to introduce you to one of my staples of college life: canned white beans. I first discovered them about two years ago when I was looking for an easy way to get more protein in my diet. Since then, I have found a million and one ways to use them. Really, you can add these guys to anything. My favorites? Leftover spaghetti and salads. Mmm.

White beans are high in calcium and iron, as well as a great source of protein. They are also super cheap (score!); a can of white beans costs about 85 cents.

The recipe I’ve decided to feature is one that you can really change to include whatever you like. It provides a great stand in when you are craving bean dip… or if you just feel like dipping a salty, delicious tortilla chip in something. It is also super easy to mix up in a dorm room.

We’re all busy in college; between studying, going to class, working 2 part-time jobs, and hanging out with your friends, it is no wonder we crash so hard on the weekends. And let’s be real, those mini-breaks you have to get ready to look glam for the night just aren’t cutting it. I started this week off excited! I wrote a list of things I would need and checked it twice (much like I would imagine Santa does on Christmas, but, really, what do I know? I’m Jewish) and headed off to Whole Foods. Instead of heading for the prepared foods aisle or straight for my clutch of frozen Amy’s Organics (seriously have you ever had the Mexican tamale pie? Delish. But I digress. We’re focusing on cooking here), I made my way through the produce and on to the fish and meat.

And let me tell you, those Whole Foods people, they are friendly bunch of peeps. I felt like a “real person” asking about which cut of meat was the leanest, how long I should cook my sea bass for, should I leave the skin on or off? These are things I would never even THINK about when ordering out at a restaurant, yet I suddenly became determined to make everything correctly and deliciously and full of taste that would make my grandma kvell (that’s Jewish speak for beam with pride.

Like with most things in my life (namely, the boy I’m kinda, sorta talking to right now), I have a very complicated relationship with college. Over the past four years, we’ve had our ups and downs. There have been moments when my only thoughts were, I love college (when I was living one of these moments), and there were others (like when I was writing my thesis) when I’ve thought, I hate college with a fiery passion…

Ahem.

But that’s probably because college is a complicated institution, full of things we want to do, things we should do, and things we have to do. Some of the stuff is fun (Saturday tailgates), and some of the stuff is not so fun (Sunday all-nighters). So often, we love college just as much as we hate it.
