10 Things That Will Be Obsolete When Our Children are in College

Our generation has been called a lot of things over the years, and not all of them have been particularly flattering. But I think we can all agree that we are the generation that thrives on technology. They call us the “thumb generation” because we’re always texting or typing, and that’s not really something we can argue with. We are the age of the internet, the cell phone, and the iPad. We are the age of all things digital.

Just think of all the technological developments that there have been since our parents were college seniors. For one thing, if you were a college girl when you mom was a college girl you wouldn’t be reading a blog. You wouldn’t even know what a blog is. You wouldn’t even have cordless phones, never mind a cell phone, AND you’d be using a typewriter to write your final papers. And none of it would have seemed the least bit weird to you. But it seems weird to us. But you know what, all the stuff that we do now may eventually seem outdated to our children some day.

Like what, you say? Why I’m so glad you asked…

I COMPLETELY disagree with 70% of this post. You really think people won't wear watches, read books, print documents or use desktops? Not everyone is a college student who solely relies on convenience. Educate yourself.

I don't see printers or desktops going away anytime soon. As a newly employed college graduate we use them so much in the work place, even a non-profit like mine that is environmentally friendly.

I disagree with most of this as well. In the working world, printers, faxes, and desktops are still used nearly everyday. And printed books aren't going anywhere either- studies have shown that people still like being able to physically hold a book. That's like saying televisions are going away because people have Netflix and Hulu- not happening.

Desktops in their present form will certainly not exist in the future. Once sufficiently fast internet connections are ubiquitous, memory management will be remote and computers and TVs as they are today will all be replaced by screens with small processors enabling them to access powerful computers remotely, this is already beginning with ideas like the "grid" and the "cloud". The fact that desktops are being used now is hardly an argument for them still being of any value in 30 years.
Printers will certainly become used far less frequently, this is already the case today. Encyclopedias are already becoming redundant, printed books will certainly be used less though it is debatable whether they will disappear entirely. Modern ebooks are increasing in popularity and don't have the disadvantages of LED screens, these things always take time to replace existing technology and people are always very reluctant initially to embrace new technology that replaces something so entrenched.

IDK, in the work force we still use printers, faxes, desktops, etc. And while, yes there are laptops, but working for the government (where your computer holds alot of sensative info) I think there will always be a desktop of some sort. Too much of a security risk to allow everyone to have a laptop.

I actually agree somewhat, the CD Player is obsolete now kinda, CD's themselves for that matter. lol But I feel everyone is taking this a little too seriously questioning peoples intelligence and such, I agree with almost all of these, watches will still be worn as a fashion statement and books will still be available but people will have almost no use for them because of the technology of our world.

You are kind of an idiot. Watches will not go obsolete, in todays society watches are used as an accessory for the most part. Student newspapers will exsit, by ditching the paper versions and sticking with the electronic mediums. Even though the paper itself may be gone, the term "newspaper" is not going anywhere soon.

This post was a little depressing to read haha. Although I do agree with many on the printers/fax/desktop issue; even if most people don't use them, they will still be in use by various workplaces.

    Desktops aren't going anywhere.
They are more powerful than laptops and they can be upgraded.
    They are better for gaming.
