10 Best Things About a Perfect Spring Day

I have come to the final decision that Thumper was right all along. As soon as spring arrived, he could only think about thumping that big foot of his so all of the animals would hear his mating call.  And I totally get it; spring is here and so are my raging hormones.  Boys and their forearms crawl out of North Faces and down comforter coats…and I can’t get enough.

That’s not all, though. Other things start to happen to my body when spring rears its mighty head.  Suddenly, I feel randomly productive.  I clean everything in my sight.  I wash a dish instead of just shoving it into the dishwasher.  I wash my socks instead of throwing them away because they are stained with feet sweat.  (I’m not kidding, I’m a disgusting person.) Let’s just say when spring comes around, everything falls into place and I feel like a giant firecracker is going to explode in my chest with excitement.

The first day I know it’s spring is usually the best day.  My nostrils flair into the wind, I smell smells I thought only squirrels could detect (i.e. dirt, acorn stubs, wet leaves, ant hills).  My fingers tingle and touch the breeze…oh, and what was that?  Did I just feel a soft blowing wind lift my baby hairs on the back of my neck? Happy sigh.

To say I’m smitten for spring is like saying I’m smitten for self-serve frozen yogurt, and anyone who knows me knows that I put way too many Oreo’s on my soft-serve I’m over the moon for both. And how can anyone not be? Oreo’s are delicious There’s nothing on earth as blissful and perfect as a spring day. Read More »

The 6 Random People You’ll Miss Most from College

As finals start to wind down and graduation looms closer most graduates will be reminiscing about the memories they had with their besties. The late night chats, the embarrassing moments, the day you met freshman year as you walked in a giant mass of people to the nearest frat party. But those girls and guys aren’t the only ones you’ll have to say goodbye to come graduation day; there’s also all those randoms you’ve met along the way that added a little spice to your college career.

The ones you see daily but NEVER talk to.
The ones that you share awkward smiles with when you see people take a tumble on an icy street.
The boy from your intro to Anthropology class that giggled with you whenever your teacher unintentionally said something funny.

These are the people you have taken for granted for the past four years and soon they’ll be out of your life forever. When you think about it – it being the fact that you have met so many people that you’ll never see again – it’s weird, right? So let’s take a moment to reflect on these randoms and give them the goodbye they deserve: Read More »

Even University Presidents Wonder if College is Worth Anything Anymore

Whether you’re at an Ivy League school, a small private university, or your local community college, we can all agree on one thing: higher education is expensive. Even with a few scholarships and some financial aid, we all dread the fact that once we graduate, we obtain two things: a degree and a giant mountain of debt.

I was brought up believing that the world consisted of two groups: people with degrees and people without degrees. I went through life thinking that the people with degrees ran the big businesses and drove fancy cars, and that the people without degrees worked at McDonald’s (unless they got lucky and invented Apple computers or Google instead). I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that I was brought up to believe that having a college degree meant you’d succeed in this world.

The only problem? No one told me- or ANY of us- that the economy would crash and that our government would be trillions of dollars in debt. The jobs that were open and ready to hire five years ago are gone now and thousands of people are getting laid off every day. The promise of a bright future and dream career have become more of a fairytale than a guarantee. When graduation day comes, will any of us really have those advantages and benefits that we were always told would set us apart from everyone else?

It doesn’t seem that way, and now even the people at the top are starting to wonder if our higher education system is working, or worth anything, anymore. Read More »

The Best (and the Worst) New Celebrity Hairstyles

Today’s celebrities have one goal and one goal ONLY: to stay relevant. If recording a new album, starring in a summer blockbuster, filming a reality show, or promoting a new line of designer lollipops doesn’t help to achieve this goal, there’s one other trick that never fails to make gossip blog headlines: drastic hairstyle changes.

Good or oh so bad.

Are you digging Chord’s “dark and mysterious” look? How do you feel about Emma Stone going a bit brighter? Which celebs look better than ever and which ones should demand a refund from their hairdressers? Let us know!

Versatile Style: Topshop Orange Cutaway Halter Dress

The other day I was browsing the Topshop website and came across a dainty little number with so much potential. The Orange Cutaway Halter Dress (yeah, real original name, Topshop), is, like you guessed, an orange, halter-style dress made of flowy chiffon. Besides the knockout color, this dress also features a stunning cutout in the chest area, giving it a sexy ’70s feel and a very thin break in the fabric on the back, which will be evident when you’re moving around. Bottom line: The dress is hot, but leaves something to the imagination! When most people look at this dress, they immediately think “going out,” however, when paired with the right pieces, this dress becomes a super versatile item for both day and night.

Sex is a Hot Bed of Insecurity

Oh no, does my hair look OK like this?

Sex. It’s a love-hate relationship. While it should be “love at first orgasm,” all the bending and unflattering positions have me thinking more about my body than about the big “O.” And then there’s my ability to perform – am I good? Am I bad? Am I so bad that he tells all his friends about it? Does he notice me lying there thinking about all these things?

It’s a series of events during an evening that lead me to experience the “insecurity plague.”  Here’s the breakdown:

8 PM- Dinner is over; the date’s going good. We’re both feeling it. Suddenly, he reaches over and pulls me in for a kiss. He’s got soft lips and for a brief moment, I’m lost in eternal bliss. But then, I remember the onions I ate in my salad at dinner and quickly pull my tongue back, wondering if my breath smells.

9 PM- Soon after, we’re in his bedroom. We start making out and it’s getting’ hot and heavy. He pulls my shirt down and unhooks my bra. I’m packin’ the Ds so it’s hard not to worry about my breasts when it comes to sex. They’re heavy, so they lack the extra perk. Questions run through my head. Do my boobs look weird when I’m lying on my back? Are my nipples too big? How big are nipples suppose to be anyway?!

9:02 PM- Before I know it, he’s unzipping my jeans and making his way south. I go right into my head: What underwear am I wearing? Please don’t let it be the granny panties. Phew, it’s the stripey boy shorts. Does he like boy shorts or is he more of a thong guy? OK, looks like he doesn’t mind. As he makes his way south from my lips, I fear my nether regions are not up to par. And then I start wondering: Did I miss any hair while shaving? OMG- what if he thinks my ingrown hairs and razor burn is an STD? Does my vagina look weird?  Does it smell….fresh? Read More »

Current Events Cheat Sheet: Let the 2012 Presidential Race Begin!

The race for the 2012 Republican presidential candidacy is on! There have been murmurings for a while, but this week, a few politicians made things official. Firstly, Mike Huckabee, considered a far right-wing front-runner, bowed out of the race saying that “all the factors say go, but my heart says no” (do you think he meant to rhyme?) Meanwhile, Newt Gingrich officially announced his candidacy, as did Ron Paul. Mitt Romney, though, is still considered the man to beat.

The head of the International Monetary Fund has been accused of sexually assaulting a maid at the hotel he was staying at in New York City on Saturday. Dominique Strauss-Kahn is not someone you probably know by name (I definitely didn’t), but his high profile status as leader of the IMF makes the allegations headline news. The IMF (not gonna lie, definitely just Googled this) is an organization with almost 200 member countries that works to stabilize exchange rates and improve the global economy. So, yeah, Strauss-Kahn is a big deal- if the $3,000-a-night suite he was staying in wasn’t evidence enough. Police are expected to release more details in the coming days, possibly including whatever evidence was found from the “forensic examination” he agreed to last night. Read More »
