Intro to Cooking: Yummy Yogurt Parfait

I have a secret: it took me forever to fall in love with parfaits. I know! I know! For whatever reason, for a long time, I felt really opposed to mixing food… I was that person who kept everything on the plate from touching. Needless to say, discovering the deliciousness of yogurt parfaits was a groundbreaking day for me.

Yogurt is really one of those foods that is great for you. It’s filling, it’s delicious, and studies have shown that women who eat at least three servings of low-fat dairy a day are more likely to have slim waists! Um, added bonus? Yes. Getting enough calcium is very important for us ladies and yogurt is a delicious way to accomplish that.

Mixing yogurt with berries is just another way to up your health factor. Berries, especially blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries, are loaded with antioxidants and vitamins.

The one caution about this website has to do with the granola. Granola is filling and can be a great way to add crunch and flavor… but make sure to read the label on the granola you buy very carefully! Granola can have a lot of empty calories in the form of added sugars. I like to stick with all-natural flax granolas or granolas that are primarily oats and honey. Definitely beware of added sugar!

Now, let’s get on with the recipe!

Yummy Yogurt Parfait

What you need…

  • One carton of your favorite yogurt (I like to use Yoplait Strawberry or Blackberry or Chobani Greek yogurt)
  • 1/4 cup of strawberries, diced
  • 1/4 cup of blueberries
  • about a handful of blackberries
  • about 2-3 tablespoons of your favorite granola
  • One tall glass or bowl (I like to use a taller glass because it makes this feel just a little fancier!)
How to make it…
Combine diced strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries in a small bowl or container. In a tall glass or bowl, put about 3-4 spoonfuls of yogurt. Top with about 1/3 of the berries and a tablespoon of granola. Repeat until you’ve used up all your yogurt, berries, and granola. Enjoy with a cup of green tea!
Note: You can also make this recipe in a Tupperware container and take it with you to work, school, or even on a road trip, as long as you can refridgerate it properly.

You SCOUNDREL! (scoundreless?) I can make wax strawberries, blueberries, blackberries (and even cherries and olives) if I wanna to make a candle that looks like this.
The flakes have me stumped! I'm gonna be working on that for a month and I'll be hating you all the time until I get it right!

    It's gonna smell great!

Chobani. OMG. I love that stuff. I really want to try making my own granola! MY old boss does it and it's so much more delicious (and healthy!) that way. I also like a saltier savory granola with nuts. YUM. Not so much one for those fruits in yogurt but the great thing is you can toss pretty much any fruit into yogurts!
