Never underestimate the power of the ponytail! For some reason, a high pony will always make me feel perky, and a low one is about as sophisticated as your hair will get when it’s too hot to spend more than 30 seconds on your hair. So I don’t look like I just stumbled out of junior high, I like to accessorize mine with cute summery accessories like barettes or headbands, or if I’m feeling really girly, a bow.

My beat the heat styling tip is to always wear layers so you can take them off when it's hot outside, but have a sweater handy for the chilly AC at a restaurant (for instance).

My summer styling tip is an anti-chaffing stick. It's perfect for your thighs when wearing dresses or shorts in the hot weather.

A top knot or ponytail, sunglasses, and a hat always help in the summer heat.

Always have a bathing suit with you. You never know when the chance to cool down in some water will arise.

There's nothing worse than long hair sticking to the back of your neck. I rarely wear my hair down in the summer, so I've perfected the high ponytail and ballerina bun.

One word. Deodorant. Always in my purse.

My best beat the heat summer styling tip is using the wonderful spin pins to really get the hair off of my neck and using a smoothing cream when my hair is wet. This way, when I get done with work and am going out with friends and want my hair down, there are nice soft waves! And no kinks!

I braid my hair to cool myself down – usually around my bangs. Added bonus: it's the current hair trend!

Skip the camisoles under things and try the bandeau top underneath things. Because as much as you want to go sans layers, sometimes Grandma doesn't want to see your girls at the family picnic. So slip a bandeau top under lower cut shirts for added texture and less fabric than a long tank.

Always have sandals on can't stand to wear shoes and socks in the summer.

  12. Angelee says:
    Mon, 27th Jun 20111:40 pm

At work, I wear a flowy top instead of a polo that meets dress code, but is not as heat trapping!

  13. Jen says:
    Mon, 27th Jun 20112:05 pm

My summer styling tip is to French braid your hair. It will keep the hair off your neck so you stay cool and is a bit more sophisticated than a ponytail. Add a cute sundress and you're good to go!

  14. Sarah says:

I don’t know a better way to beat the heat then a cute beach tunic. Wear it by the water to cover up or pair it with white cropped denim and some cute jewlery for a cute night out outfit. Light and breezy, never sleazy!!

The best beat the heat summer styling tip is fluffy curled ponytails! It keeps hair away from face and no hassle plus you can put a sun floppy hat on top to shield off that beautiful skin from the sun. :)

I like to wear a bun on top of my head with a headband. It's cute and so easy to do when you're too hot to do anything else. But since my hair is cut quite short these days I'll have to say just wear big sunglasses!

  18. Kelsey says:
    Mon, 27th Jun 20112:26 pm

I like to wear billowy shirts that are made of a light fabric with a cute tank top on underneath. These shirts let the air flow around you, keeping you cool while still looking cute.

I have really long hair and it gets really hot during the summer. To get it off my neck, I wear pig tails. They are cute, sassy, and the guys always like them. :)

My "beat the heat" summer tip is to use moisturizer with tanner instead of using a sunbed or tanning outside. Over time, UV damage ages your skin prematurely, giving you more wrinkles and a much higher chance of having skin cancer in your future. This way, you can have that sun-kissed glow and maintain your healthy, youthful skin!

  24. Faith says:
    Mon, 27th Jun 20112:49 pm

I wear sundresses (almost exclusively) and drink water with lemon! Translucent powder does wonders for a shiny face, too.

I wear cotton dresses all the time in the summer :)

  26. Lia says:

My "beat the heat" summer go-to is definitely a good pair of linen pants or shorts. They are light, easy to wear over a bathing suit, and they are super cute and stylish!

Tinted moisterizer, some waterproof mascara, flowy tank tops and a good pair of shorts :)

  29. Jenny says:

My beat the heat summer styling tip is to wear anything comfy and breathable, like cotton sundresses or shorts and t shirts, especially if I'll be outside.

  30. Jessica says:
    Mon, 27th Jun 20113:59 pm

I’m not even going to try to sound cute or glam. Thin, stretchy maxi dresses and no panties. The maxi dress ensures you won’t flash your goods when you bend over, and hey – let’s face it – nothing cools you down better than when you get a nice breeze through the lady-garden.

  31. Rachel says:
    Mon, 27th Jun 20114:03 pm

I always try to pick a top that can be paired with pants, a skirt, or shorts if I'm busy all day. Saves half the time if the weather changes in an instant and the look is just as fresh!

  32. Lesley says:
    Mon, 27th Jun 20114:23 pm

My best beat the heat tip is to always carry sunglasses! it helps so much and keeps your eyes from wrinkling.

  33. Rebecca Shepherd says:
    Mon, 27th Jun 20115:03 pm

Definitely a good pair of shorts! My go-to pair right now is a knee-length, purple cargo pair. They fit prefectly, just a little tight so they hug my curves and don't look sloppy. Oh, and putting my hair up! Keeping it off my neck makes me feel 10 degrees cooler!

  34. Jasmine says:

I wear my hair in a braid.

  35. claire says:

I'm in the South right now so linen is definitely the favorite breathable material right now. Otherwise, a hat with nice brim keeps you in the shade all the time.

  36. Maddie says:
    Mon, 27th Jun 20115:36 pm

I live in Arizona and have super thick long hair that can really make me miserable in the summertime. So for me, summer is the season of braids! Regular braids, pigtail braids under a floppy straw hat, layers braided on the sides into a low bun with a flower pinned in, or my favorite: a french braid! It looks great if you tease your hair at the crown so it's a little bit voluminous and looks really chic. Sometimes I even wear it to semi-formal events–if you tuck the tail up inside the rest of the braid ( like underneath the part on your head, you have to braid it a little looser up there) and stick some bobby pins in there, it can make a really cute updo!

  37. Bailey says:
    Mon, 27th Jun 20115:45 pm

To beat the heat in the summer, I usually opt for a flowy sun dress and sandals. Dresses always look cute and polished, they are breathable and are a great summer staple for when I am too lazy to put together a cute outfit! I also like to put my hair up in a high ponytail- they style allows the breeze to hit my neck and shoulders and is great for hot humid days so I never have to worry about frizzy hair the second I walk outside.

To beat the heat in summer on REALLY hot days, I'll do an easy and simple thing with my hair – putting it in a ponytail. (:

    Mon, 27th Jun 20117:04 pm

My beat the heat tip is to wear pretty, silky headbands! They don't have to be like Blair Waldorf's, but more like neutral, soft tones with accents that catch the eye. They serve to get my hair away from my skin in the heat and can subsitute for jewelry if you find the right piece!

  40. Leslie says:
    Mon, 27th Jun 20117:23 pm

To beat the heat, Bring a bottle of water with you EVERYWHERE!

  41. Hannah Bukoski says:
    Mon, 27th Jun 20117:39 pm

My beat the heat summer tip you be to first start off with a sun dress. The dress is meant for sunny summer weather, it's right in the name. Make sure to pick something flowy to allow air flow so you won't get too hot. Also, make sure it is a light color, it will reflect the beautiful weather outside as well as keep you cool. With hair and makeup, go au natural. No matter how expensive your makeup is, it is probably going to melt in the hot in humid weather in the summer. If you must wear makeup, I would choose some water proof mascara, in case you are going swimming, and sun tan lotion (always). You want to spend the most time you can outside, so just shower and let your hair air dry, if it's frizzy, put some controlling cream or gel in and let it go. Summer is about being fun and free and your look should reflect that!

floppy sun hats are the best way to beat the heat because they come in multiple colors and go with dresses, shorts, bikinis, just about anything. They also come in lots of different fashions so there is sure to be one for everyone!

No need for the heat of blow dryers… just throw in some Frederic Fekkai Summer Hair Beachcomber Leave-In Conditioner and you are set for the day. I can't live without it!

  45. Margo says:

To beat the heat AND look awesome for me is braiding my hair and then putting it up in a bun with a bobby pin!

To beat the heat, wear a pretty bright sundress, a nice necklace or earrings, and a pair of cute wedges or sandals. You look stylish and can feel the breeze!

  49. Em C says:

HANDKERCHIEFS! I always have one, usually from the men's section as they have nicer prints and prettier designs… I tuck 'em in my pocket, tie 'em around my neck a la boyscout, put up my hair like a 1940s housewife… Sometimes I'll even wrap 'em around my arm like a scarfy little armband. Best part is, they can always be repurposed for their real use; dab away the sweat (eugh!) or shade the nape of your neck

  50. Erika says:
    Mon, 27th Jun 20118:56 pm

Lace! A loose fitting all lace top is amazingly breathable and cool! Wear it with a cute tank underneath and Summer is no problem! You get the comfort and coolness of just a tank, but your outfit still looks classy and put together!

The best way I beat the heat is with breatheable comfortable shoes/flip flops, shorts, and a statement top, accessorized with my favorite necklace. Also, I make a fishtail braid to get a nice wavy hairstyle later in the day!

My beat the heat summer thing is cute tank tops and pretty jewelry! You can dress them up or down and especially where I live (in GA) It's around almost 100 degrees everyday, so you have to dress with as little as possible to not have a heatstroke!

  65. Kim says:
    Tue, 28th Jun 201111:40 am

Sunglasses! I own about 5 different pairs in all different styles, nothing like making a black sundress stand out with a pair of teal wayfarers!

I recently got a feather hair extension put in after being a little skeptical of how it would look in my crazy curly red hair, but I must say, I absolutely love it! i think any haircut or color can pull it off, and definitely opt for fun summery colors like yellow, mint green, hot pink, etc. paired with a cute striped natural brown color. They're cute and inexpensive and last about month, so you can continue to update your colors through out the summer!

  67. Olivia says:
    Tue, 28th Jun 20111:00 pm

I've been all about fedoras, lately. They are a great way to stay stylish in the summer heat, and they also shield your face and hair from the sun. Any piece that works double duty has my vote.

  70. Sarah says:

When it's hot you want to look polished without a face full of cakey makeup. That is why my summer must have is a light tinted moisturizer (with SPF!)

  71. HannahM says:
    Tue, 28th Jun 20117:14 pm

Sunglasses are a great way to protect your eyes as well as make a fashion statement. Anthropologie carries a variety of cute, reasonably priced glasses that protect not only from glares, but from harmful sun rays. Another note to take is keep it simple–piles of accessories may facilitate breakouts if you start sweating out in this crazy summer heat. Depending on where you live, investing in a cute, portable umbrella may not be so bad an idea, either. No need to get your new blouse ruined in a sudden summer down pour! The overarching them here is: keep it cute, keep it functional, and let it keep you safe!

  72. Kate says:
    Tue, 28th Jun 20118:03 pm

Primer, Primer, Primer. For eyes and face. This is the time where my makeup ends in all sorts of places, and creases and looks terrible. Therefore, I recommend finding the right primers to keep it all in place.

I wear a light weight, white or light colored summer scarf layered loosely over my chest to reflect the UV rays! My chest gets the most sun and a light weight scarf really helps lessen my chances of burning and developing skin cancer. It also keeps me from freezing when walking into air conditioned buildings.

I love curling my hair and I recently discovered this new heat diffusing hair spray call simply smooth. As an intern in NYC the heat couldn't be worse and with this hair spray it repels moisture and humidity so my hair stays perfectly curled all day. It's a gem!

French braid pigtails on either side of your head using small sections of hair, starting from the top of your head. If you do this while you have wet hair and leave it in overnight, it creates absolutely gorgeous waves that stay in the next day. Pair that with a bohemian-inspired top (which is conveniently lightweight in itself), some corded bracelets, jean shorts and a cute belt, and a sweet pair of sandals and you have the perfect summer look. You can also add a colorful, floppy hat and some dangle earrings for a fun and flirty beach look. :)

We usually spend most of our makeup routine on our eyes and that summer heat can really smudge things up! I use e.l.f. (eyes lips face) eye primer and waterproof liquid liner and I never have to worry about it rubbing off or smudging. But the best thing about it is both of these products are only $1.00, you maybe skeptical but it really works!

  82. Claire says:

I wear less face makeup in the summer. Sport your tan and don't cover it up with foundation – just a little face moisturizer (with SPF) and a mineral veil is all I wear. The more you put on, the more your face will sweat and clog up!

  88. Kate says:
    Wed, 29th Jun 20119:56 am

mens hanes white v-neck undershirts. during the summer they'er perfect because they breath, don't show sweat, and are easy to replace! I live in them during the summer they also can be dressed up or down really easy ( pair it with a nice high wasted skirt and jewelry, or just some cut offs)

Styling my hair up in a cute neat or messy bun right at the top of my head. This hairstyle is cute and goes well with most outfits and accessories and you don't have to worry about a sweaty neck or if your hair has deflated or frizzed up.

My favorite way to beat the heat is with those oil blotting sheets from Neutrogena! I notice a lot of people get that sheen on their face after a long summer day and these sheets clean your face without removing your makeup, they’re very handy.

A quick but chic messy updo and switching out heavy lipstick/lip gloss for a light lip stain instead!

light make-up, bright prints, and a nice smile make for the perfect summer look. (Don't forget the SPF)!

Messy up-do! Getting my hair off my neck makes me feel a lot cooler.

letting my hair air dry! there's no reason to break out the straightener or curling iron when I can rock the beachy summer waves look. :)

A messy bun! Easy to go from day to night! Looks cute and keeps hair off your neck for a cooler feeling all day!

Keeping a small bottle of tea tree oil in my bag. Putting a couple drops on my wrist, temples or back of neck never fails to keep me cool, nothing is less attractive than losing your cool, no matter how good you look.

For me, it's all about accessories. Simple pieces that breathe nicely can be paired with a number of other accoutrement to make so many different outfits!!
