Totally Random Sex Facts

Infographics make things easy for us. That’s why we love them. OkTrends, a site that gathers data from profiles on the dating site OkCupid, has created a merger of two things everyone loves  — sex and infographics. This set of charts covers everything from how many times a week students expect to have sex based on their tuition to how often Twitter users masturbate. Oh, and some vegetarian-friendly sex slang is in there somewhere. That’s something we can get down to/spend half an hour scrolling through.

Here’s what we learned:

1. Exercise has something to do with how easily you orgasm. This one compares the difficulty a woman has achieving an orgasm based on whether or not she likes to exercise. From the results, it looks like you better suck it up and start enjoying that morning run, ladies.

2. People who like grammar also like rough sex.  OkCupid pulled words from users profiles and came up with the following conclusions. People who like rough sex are into grammar, piercings, and anime. And people who like gentle sex? Boating, gardening, and England. Not sure about those, but if it’s in an infographic, it must be true.

3. Carnivores aren’t as into oral sex. Totally random, but fun fact. Vegetarians are way more into it. It must be the general lack of protein.

4. Twitter Addicts Are Lonelier. Twitter addicts, beware. These charts question, respectively, how long relationships last and the odds of masturbating today for people who use Twitter every day vs. everyone else. Looks like all those tweets are getting in the way of actual social interaction and causing a pandemic of sexually repressed loners…#sad

Current Events that Actually Matter to College Students

The Middle East, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Recession, Depression, Stimulus, Democrats, Republicans, Congress — sometimes the big issues in today’s world can make your head spin. There’s so much going on and it’s tough to keep up with all the details, but even though it’s hectic, the big issues can have a big impact on your life, your career, and your future. Lucky for you, I’ve taken the  top headlines and condensed them into easy-to-read tidbits with all the info you need to know. And trust me, this is the stuff you need to know.

Are you a fan or a critic of Obama? Were you counting on a new stimulus package this year? How do you feel about Congress’ decision over whether or not to keep troops in Iraq? What issues matter most to YOU?

Baggin’ Out: Cleobella Mexicana Clutch

Every girl needs a good purse (or 12). Whether you’re going for groceries or running from class to class, they are simply essential for holding all your, uh, essentials. Each week, I’m going to show you a fashionable, yet functional purse for the college crowd and let you know why you absolutely need it! I apologize ahead of time to your bank account.

I love summertime. And you know why? Because I can be outside! Northern Ontario winters are not fun (unless you consider -20F on a good day fun), so we like to celebrate the few months of gorgeousness we get and be outdoors. That means beach parties, outdoor patios and all the BBQ I can handle. I took a look at my measly clutch collection the other day (I’m such an ashamed handblog blogger) and realized that everything I owned was more suited to winter. Basic black and brown leather, but nothing fun or “warm”.

The Cleobella Mexicana Clutch is going to suit my summer needs perfectly. Made in a rainbow of bold leathers, featuring beautiful cutout and lacing details, it’s completely ethnic and screams HOT. Each and every Cleobella product is handmade in Bali (just like the gadogado dress!), including all the intricate characteristics on this 10 L x 5 H beauty.

But, besides looking great, this clutch is super organized and functional. Inside you’ll find dedicated slots for bills AND cards, as well as a space just for your ID! Two zipper pockets, both the entire length and width of the clutch while closed keep your lipstick and cell phone safe. The clutch secures with a magnetic closure and even has a tiny strap you can carry it with, if you choose. Leather is great for summer and winter, so this clutch could really prove to be season-less. The deeper leathers will wear especially well through the colder months!

And, bonus, it’s celeb-approved chic! Homegirl Emmy Rossum was spotted with this very clutch in a gorgeous green leather. She looks super cute, as always, and shows us how to dress this clutch up for a nice dinner or cocktail party.

If the Cleobella Mexicana Clutch has tickled your fancy (as it should have!), head over to the brand’s website and purchase it for $160. Enjoy!

Sexy Time: Cashing In Your V-Card

I was absolutely terrified to lose my virginity. I had built it up in my head to be a significant, life-altering step, one that would cement my status as a sexually desirable woman. It turned out to be a disorienting, uncomfortable, disgusting experience that shook my confidence for months. The guy and I were getting hot and heavy, clothes came off, and suddenly he was penetrating me. I went along with it for literally five seconds, and then I rolled off. That was not what I wanted.

There were so many unaddressed factors — he wasn’t wearing a condom, I wasn’t on birth control, I hadn’t exactly consented…it was atrocious. Naturally, I never spoke to that guy again, and quite fortunately, there weren’t any profound consequences. A few month later, I met a new boy and I decided to have sex with him. It was wonderful. Prior to him, with every single “first” experience with a guy was always somewhat traumatic after the fact. I would just feel so anxious, nauseated, and unable to sleep because I would be shaking so hard. This was completely different — I felt calm, content, not upset with myself, and actually excited about having sex again. I think that’s how everyone’s first (and second, and last) experience should be, and this is how I would go about making it happen.

1. Make sure you’re ready.

It’s one thing to be nervous — you’re trying something new, it’s natural. But if you have profound, stomach-turning doubts about being sexually active, don’t do it. If you’re not ready to deal with the possibility of sexually transmitted disease, pregnancy, or even just a flaky partner who stops speaking to you after the deed is done, you’re not ready. Everyone reaches the stage where they’re ready to have sex at different times. I didn’t have sex until I was 21 — not old by any stretch of the imagination, but definitely well after most of my friends had already started doing it. Ignore any pressure you may feel from your friends or anyone else. You’re the one who’s going to be living with the ramifications of your actions.

Ask a Dude: Should I Ask If He Likes Me Back?

Hey Dude-

So basically I’ve never been in a relationship or gone on a date with a guy. Over the years, I’ve liked a lot of my friends but I’ve always been too afraid to make the first move because I feel like they don’t like me in that way. A lot of the time, though, other people can tell that I like the guy but I never bring it up to him directly, and I just always think to myself “well if he liked you, he’d ask you out, it has to be obvious that I like him.”

I’ve talked to a few of the guys later on when we hadn’t talked to each other in a while, and in each of the cases the guy admitted to liking me at the same time I had liked them. I’m just so confused now because I really like this new guy, but I honestly can’t tell if he feels the same way. I just don’t know how to bring it up to him without seeming obsessive or making things super awkward between us, but at the same time I feel like I’ll regret it down the line if I find out later that he had feelings for me the entire time.

I’m just getting such mixed messages because he always tells me how much he likes talking to me and he compliments me a lot…but at the same time I can’t tell if that’s just pure friendship or if he might feel something more too. And I just really love him so much as a person that I don’t want to ruin our friendship over this…but it’s bothering me not knowing for sure if he likes me or not!

How do I know for sure if he really is just not that into me?

Meet Our Favorite Celebrity Siblings

Dakota Fanning’s little sister, Elle, is making her big blockbuster debut this weekend in Steven Spielberg’s  sci-fi Super 8. And it got us to thinking, not only must celebrity siblings have much better closets to steal clothes from (Elle, did you wear my Twilight premiere dress again without asking!?!), but also much more intense sibling rivalry. Suddenly you trying to one-up your sibling by getting straight A’s is looking pretty low key.

But we’re all about peace and love here at CollegeCandy and wanted to focus on the positive. Like how cool it must be to be in  a famous family. So with no further ado, may we present our favorite celebrity siblings. Some of them we know and love, some of them we know and hate, some of them we didn’t even know were siblings.

In Our Makeup Bag: Korres Zea Mays Blush

What It Is:
Korres Zea Mays Blush in 18 Peach.

Why This Should Be in Your Bag:

In my opinion, blush is the secret ingredient to a beautiful makeup look. It instantly brightens your face and gives you a healthy, youthful appearance. My favorite blush finish has a slight shimmer, which catches the light and gives you a natural glow!

With their Zea Mays line of blushes, Korres has delivered just that. Colorful blushes with hints of shimmer that lend themselves to a beach goddess look. And, as Korres is an all-natural company, they’ve left out the scary stuff like parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances and phthalates! I tried out shade 18 Peach, which is a beautiful coral-pink (even though the picture appears slightly more orange).
