When it gets hot and humid out, the last thing I want to do is eat anything with steam coming out of it. While I usually turn to ice cold drinks, popsicles, or ice cream for my summer feasts, I was actually a bit surprised to learn that there are plenty of cool-down foods that aren’t 1000 calories each.
While I’ll admit, I don’t think I could ever stomach any type of cold soup or a VLT (a BLT made with vegan bacon), there are some great salad ideas. Not to mention, aren’t the hipsters really into coconut water right now? Well, they might not be after everyone reads this article and finds out about it.
Maybe it’s just the lazy, fat American in me, but when faced with the option between a creamsicle and gazpacho, I’m probably going to choose the sugary orange goodness pop, but hey, if you’re looking to stay healthy and save money by not chasing down the ice cream truck, a big bowl of quinoa might be just what you need.
I have a secret: it took me forever to fall in love with parfaits. I know! I know! For whatever reason, for a long time, I felt really opposed to mixing food… I was that person who kept everything on the plate from touching. Needless to say, discovering the deliciousness of yogurt parfaits was a groundbreaking day for me.
Yogurt is really one of those foods that is great for you. It’s filling, it’s delicious, and studies have shown that women who eat at least three servings of low-fat dairy a day are more likely to have slim waists! Um, added bonus? Yes. Getting enough calcium is very important for us ladies and yogurt is a delicious way to accomplish that.
Mixing yogurt with berries is just another way to up your health factor. Berries, especially blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries, are loaded with antioxidants and vitamins.
The one caution about this website has to do with the granola. Granola is filling and can be a great way to add crunch and flavor… but make sure to read the label on the granola you buy very carefully! Granola can have a lot of empty calories in the form of added sugars. I like to stick with all-natural flax granolas or granolas that are primarily oats and honey. Definitely beware of added sugar!
Now, let’s get on with the recipe!

Summer is the best time of year. There are virtually no responsibilities (unless you’re stuck with classes or work), it’s always time for a margarita, the beach is calling your name and there are tons of hot, shirtless guys. What’s not to love? Oh yeah, the billion degree heat and the humidity! While you can cool off with the beverage of your choosing, your makeup probably won’t last past noon if you’re out and about. It’s basically impossible to be successful in Hollywood today without being a triple threat — or at the very least a double threat. Granted, there are plenty of tools to help you out with the whole music “threat” (auto-tune, lip-syncing, etc…), there are surprisingly a whole bunch of celebs who not only have their own bands, but are musically talented. While some of their side project bands led to record deals, some stars stick to their little indie band just as a way to escape from the industry for a bit. It’s kinda refreshing to see celebs with hobbies that don’t involve illegal drugs or flashing their vag at movie premieres. Read More »

It’s the moooost wonderful tiiiime of the yeeeear. Halfway to it, anyway. In a ‘Christmas in June’ inspired feeling, we can all celebrate because today is exactly six months away from Christmas. And, that being my all-time favorite gift-giving holiday, I rounded up a few presents I want now.
This week made it official: summer 2011 is in full swing. Summertime means a lot of things–no school work (unless you have summer classes…gross), beach trips, concerts, general outdoor fun stuff, etc. But let’s not forget about one of the most hyped up subjects during these long, hot days–summer romance.
I remember my first kiss, and it was definitely during the summer. After a swim meet. In front of all of my friends. And it was oh-so-romantic. There’s something about the steamy weather and the short break-from-reality feeling that summer brings that makes us all want to find someone to cozy up to for a few months. Or maybe it’s the barrage of summer romance movies that we have been exposed to that make us think we have to find a short summer fling. Because, you know, if you don’t you’re doomed to loneliness!
Either way, it happens, and there are a lot of movies out there to tell us about it. And according to these movies, summer love can come in many different shapes and forms–click to find out more about them.

Is it just me or does the title of this article sound slightly dirty? Regardless, you can do a lot of things with a lemon — that are perfectly clean, mind you. (Or myself, whatever.) At the grocery store, a lemon costs about 49 cents. They don’t take up that much room in your bag and they are perfect for beating anyone over the head who tries to steal your groceries.
So really, you have no excuse for being unable to purchase that lemon and get it to the safety of your own home. One lemon could very possibly be able to solve almost every life problem (aside from the d-bag that didn’t return your incredibly coy text the other night). Then again, if you want to squeeze lemon juice in his eye.
