Versatile Style: Nasty Gal Fringed Crochet Vest

Following hot off the trail of the 70′s inspired flares from last week, I’m still feeling like Stevie Nicks. My outfits lately have been hippie-boho chic and my giant mass of curls has been set free. I was assessing my closet and noticed that I do own quite a few pieces inspired by this hip decade: the flared jeans, maxi skirts, braided headbands (worn straight across the forehead of course!). However, I’m missing one thing – a crochet vest! Since this is such a trendy piece, I didn’t want to break the bank with it and luckily Nasty Gal came to my rescue with their Fringed Crochet Vest.

A crochet or fringe vest was essential to every hippie girl’s wardrobe and can be such a versatile accessory piece! Nasty Gal is a great website, full of super-trendy pieces at decent prices. This vest has beautiful crochet detail, making tiny floral patterns and finished off by a fringed hem. A vest is an often overlooked way of spicing up a rather ordinary outfit. It’s a simple addition that, in this case, makes an outfit really girly and cute. And bonus: because the vest doesn’t require any zipping up or a tight fit, you can feel comfortable ordering online.
Let’s start with the day look:

Just a note – because of the stock image of this vest, you’re going to have to use your imagination a bit more than usual! To demonstrate how much this vest can girl-ify an outfit, I went with a rather tomboyish combo of a plain V-neck tee and denim cutoffs. The metallic boat shoes are fun, but comfy enough for a walk around the marina or a game of frisbee. A straw tote is perfect for summertime and the green detail on this one kind of matches the floral crochet pattern of our vest! Finish off with minimal jewellery – just a bangle and a few dainty necklaces – and you’re ready to go.
And now nighttime:

For night, I started with a tank in the same sunny pink as the daytime tee. Grab a pair of dark skinny jeans and tuck in that tank top to show off the vest even more. A pair of neural, espadrille wedges are super summery and will prove to be a versatile piece themselves! The tie dye purse serves as an additional homage to the 70s and can be slung crossbody style so you can dance the night away. Finish off the look with lots and lots of ethnic-style jewels; enamel bangles, wooden earrings, etc.
Like I said earlier, a vest makes for such a unique addition to an outfit and this Nasty Gal Fringed Crochet one will serve you well this summer. It’s available at Nasty Gal for $48.
