Sexy Time: Let’s Stop Stigmatizing STDs

It’s pretty much expected that if I even so much as hint at casual sex, I will receive comments informing me that STDs exist and are deadly, and insinuate that I am a completely irresponsible person who is basically asking you to contract a herpes/gonorrhea/syphillis hybrid disease thing that will ruin your life forever…that’s only a mild exaggeration. The possibility of contracting an STD is a legitimate concern, I would never deny that.  But there is a bit of an undercurrent of shaming that is present when responses to articles seeking to promote healthy mental attitudes towards sex choose to focus on the risk of STDs.  I’m sure we’re all aware of the shame and stigma associated with sexually transmitted diseases and infections. I mean, you’d have no qualms sharing that you missed class the other day because you had a cold and wanted to get it checked out. But how comfortable would you be sharing that you skipped class the other day to pick up antibiotics for your chlamydia infection? Exactly. Read More »

5 Celebs That Are Probably Tons of Fun

Even though we stalk the sh*t out of our favorite celebs all day long and plaster pictures of them all over our rooms, you could say that we don’t really know them at all. What if you met Bradley Cooper in real life and he just kinda sucked? I know I would be sad, but at least he’s still beautiful so it wouldn’t really matter.

But there are a few celebs out there who we know for a fact have to be a blast to hang out with. Who are they, you ask? Well, for one, we know Ryan Gosling’s got this one in the bag from his antics on the Today show while promoting his new move Crazy, Stupid, Love.

Ask A Dude: Can We Keep The Friendship?

Dude!

A few months ago, I finally built up every shred of courage in my being and told one of my closest friends of several years that, well, I didn’t just want to be his friend.  To be fair, I was pretty certain that his response wouldn’t be what I wanted it to be.  The problem was that I had reached a point where I needed him to know so that I could move on with my life. The hardest part was the thought that it would negatively impact our friendship.

Despite the expected response–kind, but painful to hear–he assured me that absolutely nothing would change.  A not-so-gradual distancing began to occur, and there I was again, stressing over this friendship that had meant so much to the both of us. We had one follow-up conversation, which turned out to be extremely helpful.  I got to say the things that I hadn’t clarified the first time around, and he got to confuse me further about how he really feels about the situation.

Welp, here I am, around six months later, wondering how I can possibly mend this friendship that he himself told me multiple times would last the rest of our lives. We’re still good friends, but there’s not near as much communication or connection as there used to be.

It’s hard for me to face the very possible reality that I will never move on as long as we’re friends. He’s made it perfectly clear that he does not want me to cut off communication or “give up on him,” as he calls it (cryptic, right?).  These days it can be upsetting to be around him even in a group setting and think about how we used to be attached at the hip at social gatherings.

Dude, is there any way for me to salvage this?  It feels like too much to bear to lose each other once and for all.  Thanks!

Sincerely,

Sad and Confused

In Our Makeup Bag: Korres Jasmine Body Butter

What It Is:

Korres Jasmine Body Butter

Why This Should Be in Your Bag:

I was never one to moisturize my body regularly, until I tried it. Now, I’m a total body butter/lotion convert and can’t go more than a day or 2 without slicking some on. It keeps your skin looking healthy and radiant, and also reduces nasty things like itching and dryness. However, many body butters are so chock-full of chemicals that they aren’t worth putting on your skin. It’s actually been said that you’re better off eating your body lotion because your stomach has enzymes to break chemicals down, while anything applied to your skin goes directly to the bloodstream.

Korres is a natural skincare and cosmetics brand all the way from Greece! They pride themselves on using safe, natural ingredients, so I feel good about testing out their body butter and putting it on my skin. Read More »

This Post Grad Life: Quick-Fix Stress Remedies

Alright. My life is really funny because in college, I actually thought I was constantly stressed out. But looking back now…all lies. If I could go back to the consistent life of a college student, I would reclaim it in a little hummingbird heartbeat. Sure, maybe it was stressful to drink on a Thursday and barrel through a quiz the next day. Sure, maybe it was stressful to skip out class on a Tuesday to sun bathe in the quad.

The key word in the past two sentences is: sure. College sure wasn’t stressful at all.

In this real world I’m treading through (or flailing through), stress has been tumbling upon me like a pile of heavy, wet and unapologetic rocks. Because while in college the stress was completely personal, when you get a job – stress leaks onto other people’s plates. Suddenly, you’re no longer only responsible for yourself. You’re responsible for an entire company. Um, HELLO.

My body has been completely tweaking out on me because of the stressful job world. I have zits on my cheeks (I usually only get them in my t-zone), I wake up with night tremors about screwing up and I have been listening to more Enya than usual. While these may be personal problems, I have come up with a system to aid my stressed out tendencies…and I want to share them with you. And trust me; these new stress remedies are way different than college stress remedies. Think tea bags (the kind at the grocery store) instead of beer bongs. Think candles in place of a 14-hour Grey’s Anatomy marathons. Think timeliness practicality. Read More »

Go Back to School in Style with College Candy & Rent the Runway! [Giveaway]

Rent the Runway's interns model some of the amazing looks you can get scoop!

Everyone knows girls love pretty clothes and sparkly baubles and high-high-heels. We love to look our best, shop the latest trends and avoid the sweatpants-to-lecture-again rut like the Bubonic Plague (though, hey, it happens). While it would be glorious to have infinite amounts of cash to toss away on top designer labels each semester, that’s rarely the nature of the situation. Or a college woman’s bank account.

And just when we thought our hopes and dreams of being captured by The Sartorialist were dashed, here comes Rent the Runway! Now instead of shelling out hundreds for a dress you’ll likely only wear once, simply rent it for a fraction of the cost.

Rent the Runway has studied the hottest fall trends and wants to help you get ready for back to school! We’re teaming up with them to offer a $500 (!!!) gift card to a lucky winner so you can bring the looks from the runway to your campus. Enter here. Read More »
