Seriously Inappro: Kendell Jenner Becomes Face of Bikini Line

August 2, 2011     Posted in Featured Left 2, Reality

Kendall Jenner is the new face of an Aussie swimwear line. Everyone, including big sister Kim, seems to be quite excited about her budding modeling career. There is just one small issue everyone seems to be over looking…

19

She’s 15!

Last year, that’s right while 14 years old, she did a raunchy little bathing suit photo shoot. I know the Kardashians are prepared to sell out at anytime for a little more fame, but are bathing suit ads really necessary at this point? Can’t she wait even one more year?

These ads might be more fun loving than sexy but I find it seriously inappropriate that she’s stripping down for the entire world to see at such a young age. I know modeling careers start young, but I’d like to think she could do her model thang, just fully clothed, until she’s a bit older.

Am I crazy old fashioned to think this??

Yeah, you are. Bathing suits aren't the same as lingerie.

I think its not too big a deal, just don't over sexualize her in them…its going to be weird when I hear guys in uni saying they…want her though. Gotta love that awk…

Don't little girls model bathing suits often? Well, in the summer?

It's going to inappropriate if they make her look like she's 23 instead of 15. If she were modeling swimsuits for teenage girls as a cute 15 yr old then that would be fine. But I can almost guarantee she will be made up to look like a 21 yr old seductively modeling swimsuits for young adult girls.

considering the fact that 15 year olds do indeed wear bikinis…I think you're overreacting just a tad.

    where do you live?? antarctica?

Everyone seems to forget that most models start their careers at the age of 14 or 15, Kendall Jenner is behaving the way most young models do. It just freaks people out because they have seen her on the tv show being a normal young girl. Honestly most of the ads you look at of sexy girls are young girls being made up to look that way.

Its a normal thing for a model, we should all be saying congrats that she landed such an amazing deal.

Models usually begin at this age. Let's not forget Brooke Shields racy Calvin Klein ad, and that was just in 1980, Kate Moss began her career around that age too. I do think you are overreacting.

I think people are blowing this out of proportion. If you don't start your modeling career by 13 or 14 you are done. People are only critizing this because they know her age. 99.9% of models you see in sexy ads or modeling bikinis are the same age as her, but no one says anything because chances are you don't know the model's age. She also chose this career for herself, and no one is "selling her".

THe idea that "all models start at this age, otherwise they won't have a career" doesn't make it better. Should any 14-17 yr old girl be doing ad campaigns that are over-sexualized, absolutely not? Just because everyone does it doesn't make it ok. I know if I had a daughter and she wanted to model, and she "had to start at 15," she would be doing department store ads that weren't making my teenager look like a male fantasy. just saying.

Totally agree. If adult males are lusting after teenage girls it's completely inappropriate on the guy's part, and unacceptable. But I would still try to prevent it by not letting my daughter do those seductive ads.

Brooke Shield did a nearly topless Calvin Clien ad at 15… Bathing suits are fine, but lingerie would be another thing.

Agreed. Her modeling for a brand like ALLOY or Delia*s (both have clothing & accessories aimed at teenagers thru 20-something) would be fine. But they'll probably make her look older than she is…

the reason that is a big deal is because they are connected to the Kardashians who are a bit known for their sexuality..porn video and naked pictures when they were younger bcuz they are “different” now ..i think.

I agree with you. Of course, lingerie and bikinis are very similar (in terms of the amount of skin they expose), but the principles behind them are very different. Fifteen year old girls are seen in bikinis all the time, and the fact that Kendall is in the public eye shouldn't change the attitudes surrounding this. If her parents are okay with it, what's the problem? I think ultimately it comes down how the campaign is done. The way I see it, bikini ads appeal to women, lingerie ads are provocative and sensual, appealing more to men. If Kendall is having fun while selling bikinis and not over-sexualizing herself, I think that's her choice. Would we be so quick to point fingers if a fifteen-year-old guy was modeling swim trunks?
