Sister Sister and Four Other ’90s Shows that Make No Sense

As it turns out, very few TV shows make much sense. From crazy plot concoctions to questionable directing choices, we’re meant to let our imagines soar past any inherent flaws. Of course, as a young child, I did not think twice about the premise of these shows. They provided 30 minutes of giggling and excitement and who was I to question that? But now, I’m older, wiser, and an English major who is still equally addicted to TV… so I feel like it’s time to start pointing out some of the problems. Especially with Tia and Tamara returning to TV, engaged and pregnant.
Let’s start right now:

Well I have watched all of these shows over the years and here's my take on it:
Sister, Sister – Loved this show! The premise of how they came to meet/live together is a little odd but not entirely farfetched to me. After all Lisa and Tia did live in the "hood" and Ray did have this big house in burbs with just two people living in it.
Fresh Prince of Bel-aire – Ok I'm from Philly so I'm a bit sensitive when it comes to this show but yeah I agree I never did get those remodels and the changing of the mom was just as strange. However, I can see some one sending their kid away after one fight in fact I have seen this happen in real life.
Full House – Also loved this show!!! However, I completely agree I didn't understand why all of those people had to live together and when Becky moved into the attic I thought that was extremely strange none of it made sense to me.
Home Improvement – Completely Agreed!
Saved By the Bell – LOL, also completely agreed! The monologue's throw me at first but hey will smith did it too from time to time in the fresh prince.

Ahhhhhh why do you insist on using this rubbishy javascript for the lists. It works ~10% of the time. Just right one the list!

You just dissed all of my favourite childhood shows, lol. I guess you have a point, but I made sure to just watch these shows for entertainment, not for anything to learn from.

ok yeah HOME IMPROVEMENT was insane! a sit com about a diy show-.- um… was it created by a carpenter that had just became a father and had no idea how to give good fatherly advice so he realated everything to a situation in buildin??? or a really bored elderly man who hid behind his fence and wrote down what he saw his neighbors doing CONSTANTLY

I'm going to take you seriously! These were the best shows ever, with the exception of Home Improvement, I never really watched it and when I did, it was to see JTT.
All of your points about saved by the bell are invalid because Kelly Kapowski was HOT with a fabulous name!

Forget the monologues in Saved by the Bell. How do the writers explain the fact that they graduated from high school twice? They graduated once when Kelly was on there and Zac was missing a credit so he had to do the ballet dance. Then they graduated again with that girl Tori on there when they rewrote the school song. I've heard of getting left behind a grade but graduating twice from high school geesh. As if it wasn't brutal enough getting through the first four years.

Regarding Full House and San Francisco houses, yes, there are houses that big…

Believe it or not, "Fresh Prince" was based on a true story. "Home Impr." premise was based on his stand-up act at the time: Kinda like,–the stark contrast between women, & all their "communication & feelings," & men, basically, just wanting to do "man-things" like building/destroying things, hunting/eating, grunting & pointing at things (like the basic instincts of a caveman). As for Wilson……just a "running-gag" that sitcoms do, like "Norm" on "Cheers" (also, maybe, before your time): Seemingly at the bar, drinking all night, with an 'endless-unpaid-tab'—but never drunk, & always talking about his crazy wife, "Vera" that no one ever met or saw—yet, all of his free time was at the bar/never home WITH his wife. It's the 'history of sitcoms' on tv—not just the 90's. How else could "Florida" &"James" make a "THELMA?!?!" ;oD

The reason you never see Wilson's face is from Tim Allen's childhood. He was never tall enough to talk to his neighbors over the fence and he could just see some of their faces but not the entire thing.

most farfetched shows on tv….the 'news' shows that disguise the truth with far left lies.

And since all of the news channels are lying to you where do you get your much more accurate information? I assume scientists are also embroiled in this far left conspiracy? So we can't trust them? But then where are we going to get our information from?

Julianne, I don't know why you had to pick on these shows. They may not make sense to you now that you are an English major and all that, but at the time of showing we the young viewers didn't know these things or care. I did not even notice or remember about the changing of Will's room until I read it here. I don't remember about the changing of the mom. And I loved Sister Sister. It was great to see a sitcom with a young black couple in the lead. Full House was fun, and as a child/teen myself, my siblings, and my mother all sat down to enjoy these shows and loved them. I therefore disagree with your post and with your list.

Well Home Improvement was about showcasing Tim Allen's comedy. The others I agree have stupid premises and don't make sense. I think they wanted to make shows that would keep these new stars before an audience. Quincy Jones was responsible for Will Smith's show and while the premise was stupid and awkward, Smith came out of it with a great movie career. He probably even thought the premise was stupid cuz it only lasted a few years. Saved by the Bell was a Saturday kids show more than a primetime show. I didn't see too many of those shows and Sister Sister was like a black version of Parent Trap.

you probably didn't have anything else to write about Julianne, or you didn't do your research well, cause I'm sure if you did you would have come up with an entirely different list. And why you picked on Prince of Bel Air and Sister Sister, two shows with black stars in the leads? You have nothing else to do? Go away.

don't diss Philadelphia to prove your point. Not EVERY part of its bad. It's so rude to generalize an entire city.

Also, the actor playing Wilson had a huge chin. So, i dont think that would have looked good on camera.

In Full House, multiple episodes are devoted to Joey, Jesse, and Jesse & Rebecca wanting to move out, then deciding they can't bear to leave.
