Hot or Hot Mess: Zooey Deschanel in Moschino at the My Idiot Brother Premiere NYC

I have a confession to make- I love Zooey Deschanel. As in, I really love her. I want to be her and marry her all at the same time. She is one of my number one style icons and as far as I’m concerned, she could walk around in a snuggy and I would still think she looked amazing.

However, while always looking amazing, she sometimes makes some strange sartorial choices. Usually sticking to vintage style dresses and Mary Janes, she sometimes goes for something a little more quirky. Like this Moschino dress.

The ruffles remind me of those ruffs you always see on portraits of Shakespeare, and even as a British person, I’m not too down with that being a new trend. But it does stand out, and I like that. The collar is detachable and she could have gone for the easy option, but I’m kinda glad she stuck to the catwalk original. I like the peplum style, but peplum dresses remind me of 2008. And I’m not crazy on the length.  I still think it’s really fun and cute. Definitely not a boring choice.

Love the fact she paired it with simple YSL shoes and a cute little clutch. And I love the hair. But she went a little overboard on the false eyelashes, paired with a shimmy blue shadow. A simple grey smokey eye would have set the look off much more.

Overall, a brave and unusual choice. But as CC editor Alex says, a bit like a mime. It’s nice to see Zooey going for something a little more adult and something high-fashion instead of vintage. But if anyone can pull off something so fun and unusual, it’s Zooey.

What do you think? Hot or hot mess?

She's a quirky girl so I'm not surprised she would wear something like this. Maybe I'm just biased because I have a huge girl crush on her (like a million other 500 Days of Summer lovers) but the dress doesn't look thaaat bad. With a cute face you can get away with anything!

I like her voice and her style (usually)… But she's not a good actress, and I think without her bangs she wouldn't be so pretty. I still love her.

    And with that said, EWWWWWW.
