[Everyone’s got a vice, a bad habit, something they know they need to change. Unfortunately, everyone also has a million excuses why they just can’t do it. Not anymore. Every month we will be following a different CollegeCandy writer as she takes on a personal challenge. Last month Charlotte tried to stop biting her nails. This month, Tiffany is going to attempt to conquer Outward Bound. Can she do it!? Could you?]
Before rock climbing another challenge was thrown at me: SOLO. During solo, the whole crew is separated and we each spend 3 days in the woods by ourselves. Solo always takes place a little after the halfway mark of the trip, so around day 16-18. The three days are meant to give time for reflection, rest, and to test your skills (we each make our own shelter). Oh, and we basically get no food, so a lot a people choose to fast during the time. At the beginning of the trip, solo was another thing I was terrified of doing. But as it neared I got more excited; I mean, this trip is soo strenuous I was just ready for the opportunity to rest. And that’s exactly what I did. I’d like to say that I had some great spiritual experience like others in my group, but mostly I just slept and talked to myself (I got lonely). And I was hungry. Eating only 3 ounces of trail mix and an apple barely made a dent in my hunger, so I like to think fasted anyway. And even though I don’t like pancakes, it was the best meal I’d ever tasted after 63 hours in the woods. Now from one challenge to the next, it’s on to rock climbing.

Hey!
You don’t know me – well, not yet – but I’m you, now. And you’re my 10-year-old self. Yeah, this conversation is actually happening, because we have a LOT to discuss.
First of all, you’re ten! Congratulations on hitting the double digits! You’ve just completed the first decade of your life and even though you probably don’t remember the first half of it, you probably feel pretty grown up and ready to stare down any sassy 4th graders. But honestly, stop growing up so fast and smell the bubblegum ice cream! Savor all those carbs you can chew without feeling guilty! Paint your fingernails electric blue, put in purple feather extensions, wear creative clothing and run around on the playground. Trust me, when your homework gets harder and your waist gets a little bigger, you’ll wish you took advantage of your high energy and amazing metabolism.

’90s parents all over the globe were distraught about their little girls being influenced by the Spice Girls. But almost fourteen years later, I still value the life lessons that I learned from their British Invasion. Their die-hard chanting of “girl power” ironically accompanied by their iconic minidresses is an attitude that I still channel to this day. We’ll have to forgive them for their slip-up with the whole “if you wanna be my lover you gotta get with my friends” thing, because these are five essential do’s and don’ts of being a woman as taught by Baby, Scary, Ginger, Sporty, and Posh.

[This post and contest come hot off the Internet presses from our friends at CollegeFashion!]
School is on everyone’s mind as we approach the final weeks of August. One of my favorite school-themed movies is The Breakfast Club, and it’s the perfect source of fashion inspiration for back-to-school. In case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s the basic plot: five high schoolers are held captive in detention one Saturday, and throughout the course of the day, their struggles and similarities are revealed. This film is as iconic to the eighties as Madonna and hair bands, and is today’s go-to source for back to school fashion ideas.
The Breakfast Club takes place during the winter, so I tweaked the outfits a bit to work for a college campus during the fall. Ready for some fresh inspiration? Read on over at CollegeFashion!

Lesson 36 – You don’t have to give up your peep-toes be a guy’s girl.
My first serious boyfriend lived in a house with four other guys, where pizza night was every night, Miller Light was considered the nectar of gods and the closest thing to window treatments were posters of Anna Kournikova. After two years of being the only girlfriend who stuck around, while my boyfriend’s four roommates’ brought by virtually every Ashley, Chelsea and Lindsey within county lines, I couldn’t take it anymore. I finally asked my boyfriend to tell me what these poor girls were doing wrong or if his friends were just womanizing douchebags. He laughed and he said, “Mostly my friends are just jerks, but then again the girls who walk in and out of here don’t really make an effort to fit in, they sit here in their mini-skirts and high heels and laugh nervously and smile the whole time, you can tell they’re not comfortable.” Ever since then I haven’t been able to shake this whole concept of being a guy’s girl.
