Hot or Hot Mess: Olivia Wilde in Gucci at the Cowboys and Aliens Premiere in London

Olivia Wilde wore Gucci to the Cowboys and Aliens London Premiere last week and caused a stir with her sheer-paneled dress (read: side boob). The dress was mainly black with tiny white polka dots, a pretty pussy bow neckline and a belted waist. She paired the dress with simple Brian Atwood “Maniac” pumps, gorgeous red lips and simple accessories.

On first glance, I love this dress. I love the black (however, she could have pushed the boat out a little bit on colour- especially in August), I love the vintage style with the polka dots and pussy bow and I love the collar. But I’m not sure if the dress is trying to do too much. From the front it looks classy, sophisticated but maybe a little, well, boring. However, from the side, this conservative looking dress is about as conservative as Lindsay Lohan. From the side it is all about the boob. She did, unlike the catwalk version though, go for a lined skirt- the original catwalk dress had a sheer skirt. Read More »

Welcome to the Real World: Learn to Hustle

I did everything right. I did well in high school, went to a great university, graduated with a degree I could be proud of and I even got a job!

That pays next to nothing.

A few months before graduating, I decided to try something totally new and went to work for a non-profit. Although I know I’m doing great work for a worthy cause, giving back to society in my current position doesn’t make near enough to be “big ballin” as they say.

So how do I pay my bills AND go out for happy hour? Welcome to the hustle a.k.a. doing freelance work to make some extra cash.

Figure out what you’re good at: Write down five hobbies/interest and five skills. Do you love fashion or cooking? Do you like to run or make pottery? Are you organized, articulate, web savvy, etc? It can be anything, just write it down! Read More »

The Difference between Interning at a Blog and at a Magazine

[Editor Note: I'm constantly asked to explain the differences between working at a blog and working at a magazine. And as much as I would like to spout off helpful tips to confused young writers, I can't. I've only blogged. Never magazined.  So when I heard that our intern Julie worked at both this summer, I thought it was a great opportunity to hear  her first-hand knowledge about the two experiences.]

This summer I was lucky enough to work two internships in New York City, one at a magazine and another right here for CC. They both were fantastic experiences and they were both completely different. My daily activities varied greatly depending on where I was and I gained a completely different skill set from both of the internships.

A lot of people ask what the difference between the two is and which they should pursue for future internship. Here are my thoughts…

To start off, the daily company goals of the two places are totally different. Blogs are updated several times a day, which means lots and lots of writing for you! And most posts are written in first person, giving you a fabulous chance to secretly weave way too much of your personal life into posts. Guilty. At blogs, you’ll leave with lots of clips and likely an increased knowledge of all things social media (shout out to the CCIntern twitter!), which is a a big resume booster these days.

How to Stay Fashion Forward On a College Budget

I am not ashamed to admit clothes are my favorite things in the whole world. I love everything about them, except my constantly empty wallet as a result of those Dolce Vita wedges that I simply couldn’t live without. Like most college students, I find myself constantly getting disgruntled about price tags, even on supposed “sale items.” We’re students i.e broke, but that doesn’t mean our fashion has to suffer. Please, take off that college hoodie, there are other options out there. The perfect Louboutins are a distant mirage, but affordable fashion? Now there’s an ocean of possibility.

Here are 5 tips for staying trendy on your $7.00 an hour wage:

Stock Up On Accessories: Rather than splurging on an expensive dress, invest in necklaces, bangles and belts. You’ll get tired of that dress sooner or later, whereas accessories will spice up plain items and allow you to create drastically different looking ensembles with the same basic pieces.

This Trick Tells You Who You Stalk the Most on Facebook

Everybody, quick! While perusing the exciting news of the day and munching on a delish bagel, I came across this story from Buzzfeed. They claim that if you log on to Facebook, then click a link they provide, you’ll be able to see who’s pages you’ve been snoopin’ on the most.

Ever curious, and always self-absorbed, of course I followed the instructions. Gosh golly, lo and behold it actually works! Read More »

Baggin’ Out: Nine West Turn the Corner

[Every girl needs a good purse (or 12). Whether you’re going for groceries or running from class to class, they are simply essential for holding all your, uh, essentials. Each week, I’m going to show you a fashionable, yet functional purse for the college crowd and let you know why you absolutely need it! I apologize ahead of time to your bank account.]

As summer is approaching its end, I’ve been finding myself going for drinks quite a bit. Drinks to say farewell to hometown friends, drinks to welcome back friends from vacation, drinks because it’s hot out, etc. I have two crossbody bags that I like to bring to these affairs, but realized that I probably need a few more. On my quest for something a bit fancier, I found the Nine West Turn the Corner purse and fell in love! Read More »

Serious Celeb Spills

Yes, celebrities are real people. And although we don’t have much evidence to support this, we do have some. Including shots of stars without makeup and stars with weird body parts. But now, we have even MORE evidence that they’re just like us! We’ve rounded up celebs…falling…and tripping…and stumbling. Just like you do. It seems, even a pair of Louboutins can’t ensure perfect balance.
