Summer’s almost over and fall’s just around the corner (say it ain’t so!), so while you pack up your plastic bins and gear up for the new school year, just remember that there’s always one good thing about the fall: the new TV line-up. It’s finally that time of year when the channels stop playing re-runs and start actually showing new content.
That being said, most new shows rarely make it past the first season… or even the first few episodes (“The Hasselhoffs,” anyone?). In order to cut out the fat and find out what shows are really worth your time this autumn, you should turn to the critics.
Every girl deals with heartbreak differently. Some prefer mourning the relationship by staying in and watching The Notebook and others prefer going all out and celebrating their newly single status with shots of tequila and a Rihanna dance party. Though there’s no one right path to overcoming the first pangs of heartbreak and its inevitable aftershock, but I can tell you what I’ve done in the past to get past heartbreak and its annoying friend, pain.
Lesson 37: Tricks of the trade when it comes to breakup heartbreak.
Closure can be treacherous territory. My go-to advice for my girlfriends and for myself is to create your own closure. Too many times I watch my friends go into post-breakup coffees and lunches with guys, using the veil of closure as a chance to talk things out and get back together. Closure is one of those great concepts in theory but not so much in practice because it’s so subjective. What seems like closure to one person could become a quest for more answers for another person. You have to ask yourself if you really want to know the reasons somebody didn’t want to be with you and if so, you need to be prepared for the feelings that could come with that. Read More »
It’s every girls worst nightmare that she’ll grow old with seventy cats and no husband. While it’s completely reasonable to want to avoid this feline fate, the opposite is true of dogs. Having recently adopted a puppy, I’ve found reason to believe that having a furry friend is better than having a boyfriend. They may be mans best friend, but dogs are woman’s best wingman.
So maybe I’ve spent too much time catching up on the season of Mad Men, but I’m currently obsessed with the sixties. Lucky for me, my fav fashion designers are swinging to the same tune, with lots of sixty-inspired pieces flooding down the runway. Perfect for channeling my inner Peggy Olson.
I’m sure, like me, you have no desire to look like an extra on the set of Mad Men. While Banana Republic has introduced an inspired collection to do just that, the price tags associated with it are not meant for college girls on a budget. While you could wait until there’s a good sale at BR, there are lots of 60s-inspired pieces at more reasonable prices.
The Swinging Sixties are a fun decade to draw fashion inspiration from, partially because there were two distinct styles present during the time. Though the time period marks the birth of the mini-skirt, there was also a large focus on lady-like attire, inspired by Jackie O. Some of my favorite sixty-inspired pieces are peter pan collars, shift dresses and swing coats. Read More »
We often complain that parents these days will let their kids do, say and wear just about anything. Where is the supervision, we ask. Who ever would let their tween dress up like a Victoria’s Secret model, we wonder. What the heck is the modern world coming to, we scream! But just when you thought yesteryear held the all the wholesomeness of an Ovaltine commercial, think again. Read More »
There’s something about those dreamy musicians with those cute little accents. Ever since the Beatles invaded the American scene, we’ve been craving the latest foreign musical phenomenon. Do you ever wonder why Justin Bieber’s so popular? ‘Cause he’s small and cuddly? No! It’s because he’s Canadian! Somehow, those foreigners know exactly what we want to hear and they always deliver. Could it be that their music is just better? Or is it those tantalizing accents?! I’ll take accents for $500, Alex! So ladies, we’ve collected our Top 10 favorite foreign accents — I mean bands, and we’re serving up their accents up hot with their greatest and latest hits.
Strange Talk: This up-and-coming Australian band is just making its way to America now and we couldn’t be more excited. Not only is their music insanely catchy, but they also have an amazing contest going on right now. Seriously. Check it out now.
I was watching 7 Minutes in Heaven with Jason Sudeikis this morning and had a revelation: I think I like him.
Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I didn’t like him before, I just never really thought about him. But you know what? He’s kinda cute. And goofy. And I might not spending seven minutes in a closet with him. Just sayin’.
So, dear readers, have I been existing in my own bubble of ignorance on this one, or is everyone finally waking up to realize the dude’s kinda charming and funny in an awkward dad sort of way? Has my sudden desire to make out with anyone in sight caused this knee-jerk infatuation, or is he actually an acceptable male specimen? Help me out, guys!!
Most of us have engaged in the verbal debate at some point. Most likely over a game of beer pong, when a guy makes that common assumption that boys are simply tougher than girls. We then launch into defense mode, listing off reasons why women are a hundred times tougher than men. It always ends in the same statement: “well men don’t have to go through labor!”
End of fight. (Hopefully you sink your next throw to send the point home).
