Baggin’ Out: Zara Suede City Bag

[Every girl needs a good purse (or 12). Whether you’re going for groceries or running from class to class, they are simply essential for holding all your, uh, essentials. Each week, I’m going to show you a fashionable, yet functional purse for the college crowd and let you know why you absolutely need it! I apologize ahead of time to your bank account.]

I’m not sure about you, but in my neck of the woods, fall is in full force. Sayonara summer, the cold weather is back! I do love fall fashion; cozy sweaters, leggings with boots, the whole bit. Along with fall pieces come delectable Fall fabrics, my favourite being suede. It’s super luscious and just as fancy as leather. Since Zara is now offering online shopping in the States, I decided to celebrate and feature a gorgeous suede purse from their Fall line-up: the Suede City bag.

Zara hails from the fashionable continent of Europe and has a very fashion-forward approach. Their purses are known for being high-quality, lasting for years and years. They also use superior materials, like genuine suede and leather, which is rare of a “high street” shop. Zara’s design aesthetic is always simple, featuring clean lines and nothing flashy. Sexy Time: My Most Embarrassing Sex Tales

Last week, I wrote about my poor relationship with masturbating. Someone called my story disturbing. I was far more taken aback than offended because I feel like it was a pretty tame, innocuous tale especially compared to other dalliances on my sex résumé. Since I am pretty open (read: shameless) in this column, I’ve decided to highlight four of my experiences that I was actually disturbed (or just plain embarrassed) by.

My first kiss
I was 19. I was at a party with a whole bunch of lesbians and one straight guy. After a few drinks, he found me appealing enough to kiss, and well, it was late enough in the evening that he had started looking like Justin Timberlake to me, so we started kissing. By this point, the party had wound down and we were the only ones still in the living room. In the process of making out, my dress and bra came off, and my first kiss went from G to PG-13/R with a quickness. After it was over, I was emotionally perturbed and anxious about the not-so-romantic way in which everything had occurred, and things were compounded the next morning, when I found out that we were in fact not alone in the living room…and that the witness to my shenanigans? Was a 15 year old boy (someone’s little brother had tagged along…so appropriate). While I’m certainly somewhat of an exhibitionist now, I certainly wasn’t back then, and I still get queasy about the fact that a strange child was 10 feet away at the very beginning of my deflowering process.

My first FWB.
He was a decade older than me. He was an ex-coworker’s ex boyfriend, which was kind of sticky in and of itself. And, I found out later, he was dating other people the entire time we were hooking up. Um, I’d like to at least actively consent to being the side ho, thank you very much. Read More »

Ask A Dude: Do Guys Believe in “Happily Ever After?”

Dear Dude,

This question is more about satisfying curiosity than searching for advice. Do guys think about happily ever after? We all know that girls often think about love in terms of the fairy tale, Prince Charming, etc. How do guys think about love?

Sincerely,

Candidly Curious

New Collection of Shel Silverstien Poetry Released… So I Wrote You A Poem Too!

Who didn’t grow up with Shel Silverstien poems? Most of us read him at bedtime (and by read him, I mean our mom or dad did) and even talked about him in our english classes. Although Silverstien passed away in 1999, his family is releasing a posthumous collection titled “Every Thing On It”. With the late great Shel in mind I have written you all a college/one-night-stand inspired poem to get you in the spirit. You’re welcome. Read More »

In Our Makeup Bag: Korres Lip Butters & Glazes

What It Is:
Korres Lip Butter and Lip Butter Glazes in Quince and Pomegranate

Why This Should Be in Your Bag:

If you’re living anywhere remotely Northern, the cool weather has started to settle in and that means the drying effects of winter are right around the corner. When winter strikes, my skin and lips peel and crack and I need mega-moisturization to combat the damage!

Korres is a great company that originated as a homeopathic pharmacy in Greece. They produce natural, but effective products, including a wide range of lip butters that I decided to take for a spin and compare. Read More »

This Post Grad Life: 3 Things I Learned From Girls Weekend

MY GIRLS. They’ve been right by my side throughout all of the toughest times, the ugliest times, the funniest times. They’re like the staple pair of jeans I always wear when I want to be sexy and comfortable. They are my knights (knightettes-I made up a girl word for knights!) in shining armor. I have fun with them if I’m driving to the gas station for chasers listening to Bon Jovi. I have fun with them when we are hungover and watching Color Splash on HGTV. On a Wednesday. I have fun when fun isn’t planned and I’m not even in the mood for it. That’s what girlfriends are there for.

But, good lord–it’s been hard to hang out with my crazy little posse since I’ve graduated. That “girl time” has been diminished into my selfish cravings for “me time” and an ongoing desire to keep canceling plans to relax and watch the entire season of Modern Family alone. In one day. My failure to hang out with my girlfriends is an innocent mistake, but when me and my five college ladies planned a weekend (annual) getaway last weekend, I couldn’t help but get that little tingle of excitement in my veins to spend some time with people that make me feel fresh and fabulous. It’s real people; you can push time away from your clusterf*ck of a schedule, for your friends.

We had a wonderful weekend. We went to a casual wine tasting, explored an apple orchard, took half shots of tequila and played five hours of Scattergories amidst squealing our heads off with laughter. On top of having the best weekend ever, I learned a few things along the way. Read More »

From Center Stage To BA: CollegeCandy Interviews Zoe Saldana

I remember watching Center Stage the summer before sixth grade with all of my dance friends and seeing Zoe Saldana as the feisty Eva Rodriguez. Girl was fierce. I wanted to be her and will forever give her credit for my sassy-pants attitude. While she appeared in a ton of movies after Center Stage like Crossroads, Drumline, and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, her career didn’t blow up until 2009. Two massive blockbusters, Star Trek and Avatar, launched Zoe into super-stardom. She’s now every Comic Con go-ers dream, whether they’re fantasizing about the sexy space goddess Uhura or the phenomenally hot (and blue) Neytiri. Zoe has it going on. Her newest film, Colombiana, is in theaters now. You can see her kick ass as the gorgeous Cataleya, who becomes an assassin after her parents are murdered. She’s definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Recently we had the opportunity to discuss some hot topics with Zoe, and here’s what she said:

1. Who inspires you most?

My family, my mother and sisters have all inspired me. They have all been supportive and by my side through everything. I learn from them and they are my best friends.

2. If you could give yourself 5 years ago some advice, what would it be?

I would probably say even if things don’t always go your way, still believe in yourself and keep trying to move forward.

3. What did you think you would be doing now when you were 18?

I was a trained dancer for years but knew that I had this desire to continue performing and loved the creative outlet of acting. I always wanted to do something that I could express myself, challenge myself, and do something creative. Read More »
