I adore Britney. Part of it is pure nostalgia – she was the ultimate pop star goddess during my formative years. Everynone wanted to be her, to live her glam lifestyle, to possess her amazing abs. And she always seemed so fun and accessible. And then…well, you know the breakdown situation. But I am incredibly proud of her for even stepping out in public again after such a long, incredibly visible meltdown – let alone still being musically relevant, especially when most people didn’t think she’d make it past 2007.
All that said, despite her ridiculously infectious pop songs and the sexpot image she is known for, most of the time…Britney is kind of a hot mess. It’s almost charming. She neglects her hair, wears clothes that don’t quite fit — or match…or have stains — and she is not afraid to completely destroy a perfectly fine outfit with poor shoe choices. So I was very pleasantly surprised to see her at an event in London looking very pretty and stylish. Read More »

My airport uniform consists of leggings, an oversized T-shirt and flip-flops. I don’t put much thought into my airport attire because I’m not chased by the paparazzi every time I step off the plane. However, if I were a celeb, I would probably try to look as amazing as possible.
Some celebs actually DO realize they will be photographed at the airport, and others obviously don’t remember that they’re super famous and people want to photograph them. Here’s some celebrities looking fab (and some not so fab) at the airport. Read More »

One of the hottest jewelry trends right now is rose gold, a pretty pink-tinted shade of gold. I love its feminine and romantic feel, and it looks amazing when paired with yellow gold and white gold, silver or gunmetal! What’s more, although white gold looks better on cool skin tones and yellow gold looks better on warmer skin tones, rose gold flatters every skin tone! And it pairs perfectly with fall’s clothing shades like brown, gray and dark blue, so now is the perfect time to add it to your wardrobe! Check out these amazing rose-gold-colored accessories which won’t break the bank at only $20 or less each! Read More »
Freshman girls. Two words uttered with excitement by upperclassmen guys, but uttered with disdain accompanied with scoffs and eye rolls by upperclassmen girls. These perceived interlopers consistently dampened discussions I had with many of my friends around our upcoming sophomore year. Sound a little off to you?
It’s as though we view the average freshman girl as a super-eager, stupid, slutty, and sloppy caricature: think Rebecca Black-out. Full disclosure, I’ve repressed the fact that I’ve come pretty close to resembling that image on a few Friday, Saturday, and maybe even a handful of Sunday nights my own first year of college. So, maybe I’m a little biased in their defense.
I thought this was a secret sentiment, but when I signed onto Twitter the one day in early August, at the top of my timeline, a public tweet by a fellow rising sophomore read: “Attention incoming freshman girls: We already hate you.”
It has now come to my attention that a phenomenon is occurring in which confident young women are reverting to insecure mean girls. So what is going on? Why do freshmen girls make their (slightly) older counterparts so crazy?

This month, Lisa Belkin, a writer for The New York Times’ Motherlode blog, wrote about her own disbelief and utter shock towards the following message sent by the Sigma Nu fraternity of Duke University: “Hey Ladies, Whether your dressing up as a slutty nurse, a slutty doctor, a slutty schoolgirl or just a slut, we invite you…” Lisa Belkin admitted to being stunned by the message. Adding it to her already established education of college relations, she concluded that “in social settings and in relationships men set the pace, the rules, and act as they had in the days when women were still “less than.” It might as well [be] the 1950s, but with skimpier clothing, fewer inhibitions and better birth control.”
My initial reaction: Now, I am in no way going to defend this obviously sexist Facebook message, but I am also not going to say I was as shocked as Lisa Belkin when reading it. Being the recipient of several variations of the same message, I felt indifferent — if not completely unmoved — by the evident sexist remarks. If anything, the message was just some boys being immature…
Lisa Belkin provides several other examples of “after-class sexism” that exist at other universities. From the Delta Kappa Epsilon chapter at Yale, chanting, “No means yes, and yes means anal,” to Kappa Sigma fraternity of Southern California who refer to women as “targets” who “aren’t actual people like us men,” there were many examples to pick from. Princeton junior Jared Griffin adds to this general feeling by correctly observing: “When the guys go [out] they are laid-back, casual, like they are going to class. But the women come in, in short cocktail dresses, makeup, high heels…” Read More »
