Beyoncé is a queen every day, but special attention must be paid on her birthday. On September 4, the “Single Ladies” crooner turns a year older. Has 30 ever looked so flawless? Though her Grammy-winning voice, her couture-filled closet and her ability to rock the stage (baby bump and all!) is severely appreciated by our crowd, we appreciate so much more from this girl who runs the world. In celebration of Beyoncé’s big day, here are some things you can do: Read More »

Why do guys’ products have to be just for guys? They don’t! I use dude products all the time and honestly, sometimes they work a lot better. In fact, I use Old Spice deodorant which lasts longer and is cheaper than the Dove I used to buy. So when Schick wanted to send me their Hydro 5 Blast Razor and shave gel, I didn’t think twice. Sometimes what’s in your dude’s dopp kit will surprise you.
Five blades seems like a lot, but my legs have never been smoother. And using the razor with the Hydro shave gel made a huge difference. These products add a lot of hydration (hence the name) because it’s formulated for a guy’s face. This really benefits our legs and whatever other parts you’re shaving. After shaving my legs, I didn’t feel like I needed to dump a whole bottle of lotion on them.
You can get this razor with two razor cartridges for between $7.99 and $8.99, depending on where you buy, and the gel for only $3.99. And refill razor packs are around ten dollars! It’s not significant savings, but you will save some money if you compare it with your typical lady razors. You can also purchase their back-to-school pack which comes with a razor, six blade cartridges, travel case, and a mini shave cream for $20 but retail for only $9.99 at Walmart! That’s a fantastic deal, so I’d head on over to your closest Walmart before they sell out.

You know when you see a frenemy’s Facebook photo who you haven’t seen in a long time and she looks good. Too good. Like when did her hair get so shiny, her stomach so toned and her complexion so absolutely perfect. The answer is never. She totally photoshopped her photo — or so I tell myself whenever I spot a photo that makes me go into a jealous-panic that I don’t look half as good. Well turns out I’m not the only one constantly playing the real or fake challenge game with myself. Adobe loves it too. In fact they love it so much, they’ve made an amazing game out of it!
Then after you play (and hopefully dominate) the game, make sure to enter the Adobe Imagination Challenge for your chance to win up to $10,000. All the details are right here.
[Everyone’s got a vice, a bad habit, something they know they need to change. Unfortunately, everyone also has a million excuses why they just can’t do it. Not anymore. Every month we will be following a different CollegeCandy writer as she takes on a personal challenge. Last month Tiffany spent a month at Outward Bound and challenged her physical limits. This month, Ashley's going to try to stop hating on her body so much. Can she do it!? Could you?]
As everyone knows, college is the time that most of our bodies go through changes. Some of us develop our feminine curves because that puberty thing didn’t happen when they said it would (hooray for boobs and hips!), some of us gain the “freshman fifteen”, and those special others get active and involved and get the best bods they’ve ever had. Of course there are those who remain more or less the same, but that wasn’t the case for me. I fell into all three categories — my hips widened, my boobs got bigger, I gained the sophomore sixteen, and I eventually got motivated to get to the gym and get in the best shape I’ve ever been in. Somehow I went through all of these changes and I still find myself hatin’ on my body. It recently dawned on me that all the negative comments I have to say about my body don’t reflect the way I really feel about it. I do love my body, now more than ever, I’ve just developed a really bad habit of putting myself down when it comes to my figure.
Now I’m not going to lie, I’m a fairly picky and particular person who more or less has something to say about everything (yeah, I’m that girl…but I swear I don’t ACTUALLY comment on everything), but this habit goes beyond that part of my personality. As unhealthy as it is, I put myself through some sort of mean-girl-high-school-hell for absolutely no reason! I could blame this habit on “the media” or the socialization of girls but pointing the finger at society when I’m well aware of what I’ve been doing to myself won’t get me anywhere. I’m all for critically analyzing why we do the things we do and what influences us to be the way we are (GWS major here), but I’m more for personal responsibility. Now that I’ve noticed just how unhealthy and negative the comments I make about my body are, it is up to me to change them. I am determined to shake this awful habit!
I’ve been all about the lace lately. Lace shorts, blazers and even accessories, you name it, and I’ve probably lusted after it. Needless to say, I was pretty excited when I received this ultra feminine lace top from Ella + Cathy to review for CollegeCandy.
It runs pretty true to size, I am usually a four and a medium was the best size for me to achieve a flowy and delicate look. The best part about this top is that it will work with stuff that is already in your closet. How many times have you brought something home only to realize you’re missing the bandeau, skinny belt, or flat lying skirt that you need to pull it off.? After experiencing this feeling of utter desperation more times than I’d like to admit, I tend to gravitate to pieces that will join the party in my closet right off the bat, no makeovers necessary.
Looking back at childhood photos can be a pretty painful experience. While we’d like to blame our parents for dressing us like idiots, the truth is we used to beg them to buy us the most heinous apparel. In retrospect, our multicolored braces weren’t cool, leggings didn’t fit our bodies as good back then as they do now, and our pink fuzzy pigtail holders didn’t make us look like Baby Spice, they made us look like baby prostitutes. But thanks to Angelica for teaching us that the right tantrum can get our parents to buy us anything, we were able to spend an entire decade as a walking fashion mistake. We’re going to recap our favorite fashion faux pas of the nineties.

We all know the best part of going back to school is not buying textbooks. Reuniting with friends? Definitely. Kicking off another season of college football? Absolutely. Epic rush parties? Bring it on. Shelling out hundreds of hard-earned dollars for overpriced books? WTF.
Heading to the campus bookstore is your most convenient, but also most expensive option. Turning to online sites like Amazon for books can save you a buck, sure…if you don’t mind waiting half a semester for your books to arrive in the mail from random retailers all over the country.
What was once a losing battle, however, has been revolutionized by Chegg. In addition to offering a number of other academic services, they’ll get you your books — to purchase (new and used) or rent — when you need them, and for a great price.
