Vote for the Most Influential Women in the World [Prizes from Rent the Runway!]

So here around the CollegeCandy offices, we ask a lot of questions. Do we shower before or after we play basketball? Why do babies always cry when they get haircuts? Why are emo dogs just so dang cute? But the toughest was when we tried to figure out who the most influential women alive were. You see, it’s more complicated than you think. Take Most Influential Funny Woman, for example. It’s not a question of who’s the funniest (easy: me), but of whose brand of humor has had the most influence on other funny ladies, pop culture and society as a whole. See? I told you, this is tough stuff!

So that’s why we’re asking for your help…and offering prizes courtesy of Rent the Runway to everyone who gives us their opinion.

Seventeen Says The Darndest Things: November Edition

Seventeen continues to perturb me in ways that Glamour never has. I just can’t get over the one-dimensional messages this magazine is sending to girls. Maybe my pearl-clutching is a little out of hand, but it makes me nervous that right there on the cover is the tagline “Hair & Makeup Ideas That Make You Instantly Prettier!” Like teenage girls don’t face enough pressure in regards to conforming and being pretty in their every day lives. That said, I do appreciate that most of the girls who appear in the fashion spreads aren’t preternaturally pretty and actually look like girls you’d see wandering around a high school.

The relationship advice is mostly pretty harmless. Their section that is dedicated to getting inside the male mind was pretty standard, although I wish they would have included a snarky comment next to the guy who says he’s always thinking of ways to go even further sexually – stay classy, William, aged 19. Their quiz asking, “Do Guys Think You’re Desperate,” though, was way too harsh! Read More »

8 Photos that Prove (Some) Models Eat

This investigative journalism piece has taken me to the far ends of Google and back. My search for the truth hit many road blocks, but alas here we are and I present to you: models eating. Actually eating. So they are just like us. Just a little thinner and a little more waif like. Oh and they wear more expensive clothes. But other than that, they’re just like us! Read More »

How to Make the Most of Your iPad in College

When I blew all my babysitting money on an iPad this summer, I knew that I would use it for entertainment. I planned on cuddling up in bed watching Hulu and Netflix, finishing the Millenium series and checking up on my friends on Facebook and Twitter.  What I mean to say is that I mistakenly thought of it in terms of entertainment and social networking, not education. I just had no idea an iPad would be so useful in college!

I am definitely one of those people who is obsessed with their tablet. A lot of people in my classes have asked me if an iPad is actually useful in college. I respond with an emphatic “yes!”.  So email this article to your parents with the subject line “Why I want an iPad for Christmas”. Apple even lets you buy it with 12 months interest-free credit (so you could feasibly pay for it yourself).

Couples Halloween Costumes

What’s more fun than getting creative with your boo and dressing up for Halloween together? Instead of going as a slutty bumblebee while your man dons something obscure (that he thinks is so funny), try making up a couples costume. And I don’t mean the old plug and socket costume. Think outside the box. One year my guy and I dressed up as Buckbeak and Sirius Black from Harry Potter and got the best costume award from my big sis at her party.

It seems that celebrity couples are the only ones with great costumes, but this isn’t true! I’ve collected a bunch of ideas, even some that weren’t necessarily for couples but easily can be… Read More »

6 Ways To Wear The Little Black Dress

During NY’s bridal fashion week, famed designer Vera Wang introduced black wedding dresses down her runway. Colored wedding dresses aren’t anything new, but black is pretty big statement. Like, say for example, if white means you’re the beautiful, virginal bride, then black means…what exactly?

Well, wedding dress statements aside, a black dress is essential to any college girl wardrobes. You see, in this scenario it means you’re fierce and fashionable. From lunches with friends  to wild nights out, here are six scenarios to sport a black dress…and where to find the best LBDs! Read More »

How to Spot The John Mayer of Your Campus

Today is John Mayer’s birthday, and while we can’t personally go to his house to tell him “Happy Birthday!”, we can tell you how to get your own personal John Mayer. Spotting the John Mayers on your campus is easy if you know what you’re looking for. Not every guy is going to be a six-foot-four-inch John Mayer look-a-like, but they can have some Mayer traits.

So keep your eyes peeled girls, this is what you’re looking for:

Rent the Runway Look of the Week: Birthday Suit

I’ve been having panic attack after panic attack lately; I’m officially turning 22 (and will be by the time this is published). This birthday doesn’t bring anything exciting like the last ones have… I can already drink, already vote, and already drive a car. What can you do at 22 that you couldn’t do at 21? Nothing, other than look forward to the real world…Bye Bye college.

Talk about over the hill.

Although I considered locking myself away this birthday (and every one after this one for that matter), ordering take out at 5pm, and participating in a rousing game of bingo before bedtime. I’ve since rallied with the help of my most sympathetic friends. The easiest way to make sure I don’t back out? Find the perfect birthday dress on RTR of course. With a cute dress in my closet, there’s no way I could skip out on the festivities, it just wouldn’t be fair to the frock.

My pick this week is this sexy Nicole Miller number. I like the dress because it incorporates cutout but keeps things classy—I think we’ve all seen dresses that struggle to combine both of those things, no?

You can rent this Chan Luu bracelet to complete the look.
