Web Spy: Pixlr

So you have tons of pictures from last weekend’s party on your digital camera that you want to share with your friends, but you noticed that some of them don’t look as great as you’ve hoped. If only you had some good photo editing software!

Pixlr, an online photo-editing tool, is one great solution! It may not be quite as fancy as Photoshop, but it has a lot more features than most basic editors you’ll come across. You can fix the lighting and contrast like you would with other photo editors, but Pixlr also has painting, text and filters features. It’s pretty awesome!

If you want something a little more hip and easier to use, there’s also Pixlr-o-matic. You can upload a picture from your computer or take one with your webcam and send it straight to Pixlr-o-matic for editing, where you can add cool effects, such as retro-inspired color filters and borders. 10 Costumes You’ll See at Halloween Parties this Year

The best part of Halloween is the duplicates – the four girls dressed like Snooki, the Lady Gaga twins – and the second best part is being able to identify every costume in the basement of a Frat House before you even ask anybody. Every year, people love to dress up like the biggest newsmakers and so, we should all prepare ourselves for the tasteless, the creepy, and the funny.

8 Under $20: Urban Outfitters Sale

Urban Outfitters is popular for their stylish clothes, fun accessories and quirky home decor, but their prices aren’t always college-student friendly. But luckily for all of us on a budget, Urban Outfitters happens to have a great sale section. Unlike some sites, where the sale section consists mostly of unpopular sizes and pieces, Urban Outfitter’s sale section has a great selection and great prices.

Don’t believe me? Check out these great pieces that are currently on sale and Urban Outfitters for less than $20! Read More »

Sex in the News: Okay to be Gay?

The United States of America is kind of divided on the whole homosexuality issue.

A new study produced by the University of Chicago surveyed public opinion across the country to find out which regions are more accepting to gay people. The country averages show that overall opinion is fractionated. While 44% of people surveyed said that homosexuality is “always wrong,” a close 41% said it’s “not wrong at all.” The opinions of the unaccounted for 15% weren’t made available, though Jezebel speculates that it could be those who are okay with acts of homosexuality if the two individuals are hot (*cough*most guys when girls make out*cough*)

Having an outside (Canadian) perspective the results aren’t all that surprising. The worst tolerance was found in the South Central states, with a whopping 73.7% of adults saying it’s always wrong in Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee. This is followed closely by 68.1% of people in the Western South Central Regions. Read More »

Tuffy Luv: Date an Older Man

Question?! Answer: Ask Tuffy Luv.

Dear Tuffy Luv,

Although it’s only the beginning of the school year, I think I’m in love. Okay, admittedly it was the Starbucks I drank today that gave me heart palpitations. But, it was this amazing blue-eyed dark-haired charismatic southern boy who has been making me swoon. The only problem is he is a senior and I am a first-year. I mean I really like this guy, but would this May-December ( Convocation-Commencement?) romance even be worth pursuing? Sigh. Should I just go for a guy my own age (One who probably can’t even grow a beard? Double Sigh)
I know your first semester freshmen year isn’t the best time to pursue a relationship, but I really can’t stop thinking about this guy.
Advice?

-First Year in love with the guy in the white pants and bow tie.

In Our Makeup Bag: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars

What It Is:
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars in Pageant and Grandma

Why This Should Be in Your Bag:

I’ve sang the praises of lip products enough: they add color to your look, brighten your face and are just plain fun! I have a huge collection of lipstick and lipgloss, mostly because I can’t resist all the pretty pinks and corals lip products come in.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is a line created by David Klasfeld. I wondered about the strange brand name and easily found the answer on their website: “I did and the result is a line obsessively crafted from the finest ingredients possible, to celebrate the driving compulsions of makeup fanatics everywhere.” This entire line is also Vegan-friendly (I’ve received questions about this and will try to include it in future articles). OCC’s Lip Tars are their cult-status item and being a lip junkie, I had to test drive a few!

Dakota Fanning’s Freshman Palace

Remember when you were a freshman and lived in a dorm that smelled like mildew? Well check out Dakota Fanning’s freshman crib. She has a two-bedroom apartment all to herself. At many colleges, all freshman are required to live on campus, but I guess that doesn’t apply when you’ve been in The Cat in the Hat. It’s probably going to be amazing living in that apartment her freshman year, but she’s also going to miss a lot of things many freshman get to experience, so there’s a lot of pros and cons about having that apartment (although I would have totally taken that place if someone offered it to me freshman year). Glamour Says the Darnedest Things: November Edition

Kristen Stewart almost looks like she has an expression on this month’s cover of Glamour. I don’t know how to feel about this. Sullen works for her, but I can’t begrudge her any attempts to look happy or engaged.

This month’s issue is pretty inoffensive. There was a strong emphasis on health, which I appreciate. And I was reminded that Mercury retrograde falls over Thanksgiving this year, so I’m already mentally preparing for a hot mess holiday of ridiculous proportions. Even the relationship section was less horrific than usual. There was an articled on “How to be a Man-Magnet” that had some good pieces of advice (don’t insult other women, be proud of your ambitions, don’t expect every guy to be marriage material…), though some gems were a little less constructive.
