Several years ago, most elementary school class rooms looked like an acid trip, and we can all thank Lisa Frank for that. Her dogs, unicorns and weird aliens were on all of our school supplies. If you didn’t have something Lisa Frank, then you probably had no friends. But if you happened to have a Lisa Frank trapper keeper, you were probably the most popular girl in school.
Here’s some of the wackiest Lisa Frank school supplies. Read More »
After living in the wonderful world of college dorms for the past four years there seem to have been quite a few things I took for granted…without realizing I was actually taking them for granted of course. Yes there are drawbacks to living under the roof that educates you: curfews, no illegal substances, limited guests, no toasters…(you get the point, I’m sure).
But as soon as you realize that those little draw backs aren’t that bad — it’s BAM — you’re on your own and taking two and half-minute showers just to be able to afford your rent. That’s with the part-time job you scored three months after graduation, and not including your income from various odd jobs you’ve been getting. And even though you can now hang your pictures with nails, which I’m sure is a huge bonus, there are other restrictions that you will have to abide to. Needless to say there are very few things I wouldn’t be willing to part with in order to get back the comfy dorm room living I’ve grown accustomed too.
So here are some things you should be thankful for having while living away from home:
We know. It’s Sunday. Your weekend is over. We’re saying “booooo” right along with you. Want to extend it for a little longer? Put off your work for like five minutes? Well you’re in luck. This week we’re introducing you to the world’s funniest mom.
All hail Parents Weekend! At some colleges, parents have already graced your dirty dorms with their angelic presence, while other schools celebrate this unofficial holiday in early and late October. Regardless of whether mom and dad have come and gone or have yet to come, we’ve got all the basics to keep floating well above the water during Parents Weekend!
When I was a freshman, I could not wait to see my parents. It was the first sight of normalcy I’d seen in weeks after living with my super crazy psycho roommate. Seriously guys, don’t screw this up!
First, there are a couple of simple rules to follow when hoping to master Parents Weekend. Since mom and dad are going to spoil you silly with gifts, homemade favorites, dinner at your restaurant of choice (we all know you’re picking the most expensive) and maybe even a mini-shopping spree to get you those must-have dorm and wardrobe necessities, we’ve got a detailed list of a few subtle ways to give back. On October 4th, Apple made the huge announcement all technology geeks were waiting for — the iPhone 5…oh wait. Just as we were all anticipating the announcement of the iPhone 5, Apple laughed in our faces as they announced the iPhone 4s. As someone who loves her iPhone 4, I’m a little confused. Some of the new features the iPhone 4s supposedly offer don’t sound that exciting and — sorry to Apple — I don’t think the juice is worth the squeeze. Here are some of the features the iPhone 4s plans to offer.
1. It has an eight megapixel camera and can record videos in HD. As a self-proclaimed party girl I love that my cellphone takes pictures, I never have to worry that I forgot my camera before homecoming, formal, an awesome toga party or any other event that I might want to take a picture at. I have at least 200 pictures on my phone at all times, I don’t know how many megapixels my camera is and I don’t care. My iPhone takes better pictures than my digital camera so whether it’s a six megapixel camera or an eight megapixel one doesn’t really matter, as long as it doesn’t crack when I drop it. Read More »
I love chipotles. They might not be everyone’s thing — they are spicier than your average jalapeno and have a heavy smoky flavor that some people just don’t enjoy. But I love them. Chipotles are just jalapenos that have ripened from green to red, and have been smoked over a fire. Chipotle is very rich in vitamins A and C, as well as thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, iron, magnesium, and potassium. What’s not to love about that?
As well, chipotle may help prevent blood clots, which can enhance protection from heart attack, strokes and other cardiovascular ailments. It may help prevent certain cancers and can possibly lower the risk of type-2 diabetes. Chipotle — as well as other spicy foods — helps clear congestion in the respiratory tract, which makes it a useful and yummy treat for cold season.
To be honest, that’s why I picked this recipe! Cold season is descending upon us like a black cloud and pretty soon, my mother will be marching me into a drug store nearby to get a flu shot (where, undoubtedly, the pharmacist will ask if I’m over 14 — just like he does every year). If you already have a cold, this is the perfect opportunity to get lots of vitamins in your diet…and to clear your sinuses. If you are still resisting those cold germs, this salad will still give you an extra dose of vitamins. Read More »
We all remember seeing pictures of Paris Hilton at a club texting on her pink, bedazzled T-Mobile Sidekick phone. Well just as Paris Hilton has changed (her hair is longer), so has the T-Mobile Sidekick.
I got my hands on a T-Mobile Sidekick 4G, and I must say, it’s a pretty cool phone. It’s a texter’s dream. The sliding screen slides up to reveal a full keyboard, which is so much easier than texting on a touch screen (although you have that option as well). It also has Google Speak, so if you hate texting, you can just say what you want to text, and the phone will do the rest for you. It probably won’t pick up on your group of friends’ slang (“omg he’s sooooo adorbs”), but it will pick up on normal words (“I’m so drunk”).
The phone is an Android phone, so you have access to all Android apps. I’ve been playing Fruit Ninja Free in all of my classes to pass time. There’s basically an app for anything you want. You can get radio, Google Maps, Skype and a lot more.
Autumn is typically categorized by “the transition from summer into winter usually in September (Northern Hemisphere) or March (Southern Hemisphere) when the arrival of night becomes noticeably earlier. It is in between summer and winter.” Not to outsmart Wikipedia, but I generally look to fall as the return of hot coffee, warm sweaters, crisp, cool nights and leaves changing colors.
There are so many things to love about fall. This season, especially, I was excited to get back into my jeans. But fall isn’t limited to the changes in my wardrobe. Fall marks the beginning of all things apple and pumpkin. YES!
Who else loves going into your favorite coffee shop and seeing pumpkin spice and apple cider back on the menu? God, it’s even better than the return of flare jeans!
Since apple/pumpkin season lingers around just long enough, I’m going to embark on an apple/pumpkin challenge (before the peppermint mocha season begins). What, you may be asking, is the point of this? Read More »
