Looking back at old TV shows, I can’t help but wonder how some kids shows were able to air. Obviously as young ones, we didn’t catch on to crude humor. Half the shows we watched growing up would never make it to the screen today on a kids channel. Sure Family Guy and South Park are mature cartoons, but they’re also on mature channels and at hours when kids are generally asleep.
I have really cool parents so there weren’t a lot of banned shows in my household, but there were a few. Now I certainly remember sneaking downstairs after I was put to bed to watch shows that I wasn’t allowed to. And going to my friend’s house with parents who let her watch whatever she wanted. Beavis and Butthead made it back on air this week, which I definitely wasn’t allowed to watch as a kid. It got me thinking about all of those other shows that were on the parental control list. Lesson #44 – Halloween is the ultimate girl’s night.
Halloween weekend is here! Get your corsets and animal ears ready because if Mean Girls has taught us anything, this is the one time of year when skimpy outfits are perfectly acceptable…well, if you don’t count that Spring Break booze cruise you took to Mexico. If you ignore the fact that mass-produced costumes sexualizing occupations traditionally dominated by women is totally demeaning, Halloween is the ultimate girls’ night.
The perfect single girl’s Halloween starts with you and your best friends, getting ready together with the perfect party soundtrack playing the background. Halloween is basically a night of dress-up, so take a little extra time getting glamorous with your girlfriends. Just think, if you were getting ready with your boyfriend, you probably wouldn’t get to interrupt applying the perfect smoky eye for a Britney Spears dance-off on the bed. But with if you’re getting ready with your girlfriends you can swap around makeup, do each other’s hair, ask opinions about things your guy would’ve cared less about, and laugh about the Halloween versions of yourselves. All season I’ve been live-tweeting Project Runway (@cc_intern), and from reading all of my tweets, it’s obvious that I was rooting for Anya Ayoung-Chee to win the whole thing. When she came in for casting, the judges were baffled by the fact that she had just learned to sew four months ago. Her designs were impeccable, and the judges didn’t buy that she sewed them herself. Heidi convinced the other judges to put her through to the show, believing she could do well, and now she’s the winner.
I talked with Anya today about her experience on the show, and learned some interesting things (like who she thought she would hate, but turned out to be best friends with, and how long the judgings actually take).
Me: You were basically the under dog the whole season, how did that motivate you to do better?
Anya: I think that when I look back on the season, I definitely see how I was cast as the underdog. I didn’t really think about it. I was more concerned about getting from one challenge to the next. I think it was good that I didn’t think too much about it. Read More »

This season it’s all about channeling our inner Lillian Gish in beautiful, enchanting chiffon. Designers alike have been contrasting this sheer trend with 70s inspired flares, or even masculine and military-inspired jackets. Chiffon softens a statement trend (like minimalism or menswear) without going overboard like fellow effeminate trend, lace. Below are three looks that combine the best of chiffon, all for $30.00 or less! Read More »

If your job doesn’t revolve around finding things on the Internet, then you probably think it’s a pretty friendly place. Sure you’ll occasionally get an NFSW photo sent to you at a really bad time (Hello Grandma, that is not my friend’s penis coming up your computer, nope, not at all.). And yes, sometimes you’ll see an offensive Facebook status pop up on your newsfeed. But for the most part, you think the interwebs are a wonderful place to find hidden treasures, hilarious photos and the next Rebecca Black.
However if you work on the web, then you know it’s a dangerous place full of horrific images that have you constantly just saying WTF over and over again until it’s the only thought that’s ever in your head.
Want to get a little peek at what we see everyday?! Check it out below.

Let me just start off by saying that this is a really not fun article to write.
This is coming from a person who really likes to have fun and this…well, this is not fun.
Yeah, it might also be unpleasant to read through, but I have to write about all the ways cancer is killing thousands and thousands of women. Awesome. Considering I’m a woman who has a long family history of all different kinds of cancers…even more awesome.
Then there is the upside to writing this: I’m educating myself about all the scary facts of life. While I can’t guarantee that the 1% will be devouring all the facts written below, I’m hoping that the other 99% of us will use some of this as a launching pad. Women – actually, everyone – should want to know about the cause and effect of cancer on our bodies.
October takes the cake for bringing awareness to breast cancer, a cancer that deeply plagues the female population. The strides that breast cancer awareness month makes toward raising money and mindfulness both helps and hurts the rest of the cancer community. Read More »

I always hated the day when we would watch movies involving a girl with an eating disorder in middle school and high school. Suddenly people would be leaning back in their chairs and furrowing their brows at me. I could never escape their concerned glances, the way they watched me eat my salad I had packed that day. Sometimes I’d even hear them whisper to each other about how I was unhealthy. Usually I would react by rolling my eyes and getting the greasiest pizza slice the cafeteria had to offer. This wouldn’t stop them from shaking their heads when I headed to the bathroom after lunch. Read More »

Few people actually want to be saddled with a kid at 18 (or 19 or 20 or…), but it can be tempting to play Russian roulette in the heat of the moment. But like, don’t forget…kids kinda suck. The spit and drool and cry and throw things and ruin your clothes and puke in your hair and try to cram their entire tiny bodies into your best handbag…
So if Teen Mom doesn’t convince you enough to play it safe, these photos should. Read More »
