UGG Alternatives: 10 Boots That Are Actually Cool

I have an extremely surprising and shocking announcement for all of you: I hate UGGs.

Now that I’ve got that off my chest, I’ve decided to counter these hideous slippers (yea guys, they’re slippers not boots) with 10 boots for under $200. Today’s retail price of a pair of UGGs is between $150-$180 (for the traditional UGG Australia brand UGGs), so it’s not like I’m asking you to hand over a ton more cash than you already would have.

Below are ten cankle-free, stylish alternatives to the UGG!

    1. cate says:

Uh those are all equally, if not more, ugly than UGGs. The only decent one was the roady boot.

    2. Lola says:

I come from a place that snows a LOT. Uggs are my best hope in keeping my feet warm and walking without twisting an ankle on ice. Someday maybe there will be boots that can do that for me that are more fashion forward than uggs, but for now, they are my go to boots!

      1. Amy says:

        i said the same thing!

    3. Amy says:

A lot of those were really ugly. I hate when people say they hate uggs because they are ugly. yes, they are not the cutest, but that's not why i wear them. They are comfortable, warm, and GREAT for the snow. And i'd be willing to bet that's why a lot of other girl wear them, not because we think they are so "cute." Most of those boots would cause me to slip and fall in the snow…

    4. princessmahina says:

I like boots, but I'm not a fan of most of the ones shown here. I'm still on the hunt for the right boots for me, preferably ones that aren't made of leather/suede.

    5. Kate says:

Most of these boots will not keep you warm when it's below freezing and snowing.

I hate UGGS for the snow…yes, they are warm, but as soon as they get wet they're useless. I bought a pair of silver North Face Boots last year. They're less clunky than UGGS, and they actually keep my feet warm AND dry. (I think they were around $200.)

And I live in Michigan and go to school in Ohio, so I understand the need for good boots!

    6. Sarah says:

Every article I dislike always ends up as you being the author; I don't think it's a coincidence.

      1. Katherine says:

Wow, I don't think it is a coincidence that you have no fashion sense whatsoever. So you're saying you enjoy Uggs, sweatpants, and "dressing for comfort." LOL

      2. Sarah says:

Funny that you're quick to judge because I haven't worn Uggs since my middle school days. I just don't think her articles are informative.

      3. mia says:

I noticed that too, I like most of the articles I read on here, but these seem to bother me. I think it great to offer other options as alternatives to girls who want to dress less casually, but theres no need to imply your opinion of an acceptable ensemble is in any way better than that of those who opt for a more relaxed wardrobe.

    7. Aly says:

it's not about fashion in -30C and 3 feet of snow (hello northern canadian winters) and a heel? it's just ridiculous. uggs or sorels for me to go along with my down parka thank you. fashion be damned

    8. moni says:

Two words: Bean Boots! (for those not familiar, shearling lined boots from L.L. Bean. I live in Maine so I know what I'm talking about). Also UGGs are comfy goodness

Thanks for sharing!I want to share the fun of <a title="ugg tularosa" href="">ugg tularosa.Looking forward to your visiting.

    10. Lily says:

This whole "Uggs keep my feet warm in the snow" is bullcrap. You put one drop of wetness (snow gets wet and slushy), and those $200 slippers are ruined. The only time I've been able to wear my fuggs (I refuse to spend that much money for slippers) are when it's a sunny, dry day. If you want warm feet, wear thick socks.
Keep up the good work Madeleine, love your articles!

      1. Madeleine - Suffolk says:

        i love you.

    11. Emma says:

I must agree, UGGs are not attractive OR practical. If you're looking for an alternative for snowy days, you need a shoe that actually gives you traction and protect you from the snow. While UGGs may be cozy, they are not something that should be worn out of the house. Sorel boots (while a bit expensive) are a great investment as a real winter boot.

    12. ilovegray says:

none of these are close to cute…Ugg are warm & has that winter-y cute look.

    14. IceCream188 says:

I like the boots you showed, but honestly, i freakin LOVE uggs. but not the real ones, of course. but then again im punkrock/grunge so i love a pare of tan/brown uggs under my ripped jeans. i dont know what style you are, but uggs freakin rock. theyre warm & fuzzy & i could give a damn less what people think. peace out yall -C

    15. Maura - Rider University says:

I've been getting off the Ugg boat…in high school they were all I would wear but I've realized other shoes really amp up your style more. Uggs are really just slippers to be honest! I have riding boots now and I wear them a lot more then I wear my uggs.

Then again, nothing will beat a lazy day in uggs.

    16. TimmBito says:

Honestly everybody has their own opinion about uggs I don’t think they were meant to wear inside the house if ur paying 100 and over for them. I have three pairs and luv them and wear them outside not in. It doesn’t matter weather u like em or not everybody has their own fashion sense is their way of expressing them selves .
