10 Places Your Letters Do Not Belong

For girls in sororities, your letters are a source of pride. They represent your house and your sisterhood. I am a firm believer in respecting one’s letters because I wouldn’t want to embarrass my house in any way. There are certain rules like that you shouldn’t drink while wearing your letters, whether they’re on your clothing or printed on your cup. I personally don’t want the ghosts of my founders haunting me because I made a ridiculous choice in where I put my letters.

So I’ve wrangled up some things where they should absolutely not be:

      This is lame.

      I actually really like this post! I think not enough women respect the organization they join, especially at larger schools. I was in a sorority at a small southern lib arts college that was 70% Greek, and I think we took a lot more pride in our affiliations. The only item on your list I disagree with is the cardigan- it has a sort of southern collegiate charm to it. Great post though!

      I agree with almost everything on this list except one. I go to a huge state university where several thousand students are in Greek life. It is tradition at my school and a source of pride to wear your letters on your graduation stole. Most Panhellenic chapters on campus purchase them for graduating seniors as gifts…. they typically don't have rhinestones though :)

      Although I agree that letters should never be featured on the…nether regions… I think letters on cardigans and graduation stoles are appropriate (reiterating both Rachel and Lilahlily). Can you explain further your distaste for either of these "trends"? I'm just curious, because you didn't really give an explanation– just "no".

      Great idea for a post by the way! Some Greek girls do need to rethink how exactly they want to show their sorority pride.

      Uh…wow. I don't think Greek organizations are cults or anything like that, but this certainly makes them sound that way. You can't drink while wearing the letters of your sorority? LOL.

      It's tradition in my school to wear the letters on our stole as well! Although I definitely would not do rhinestone… Also I have a cardigan with my letters and everyone, even non Greeks, compliment it. It looks like a vintage letterman sweater! Don't knock it till you try it ;-}

      Miriam, the reason we can’t drink in our letters is because of respect. Yes, it is one of our rules but if it wasn’t, I wouldn’t want to drink in them anyways. Its my way of respecting our founders.

      Great post btw, although I do disagree with a stole. I can’t wait to wear one when I graduate. Girls need to realize though that not everything needs their letters on it.

      Most of these are really lame. Almost every Greek person I know graduates with a stole displaying their letters. And what’s wrong with Cardigans? It doesn’t seem much different than putting them on a sweatshirt. I really thought at least 8 of these were really nit picky and kind of ridiculous.

      Wearing letters on your graduation stole is a common practice at my school as well. My sorority's nationals sells them right on their website, and all of my sisters who graduated this year wore them.

      I think that really comes down to the specifics of your organization. We drank in our letters, we bonded in our letters, we did community service in our letters.

      I was in a local sorority, as long as you are not embarrassing yourself or your organization it really shouldn't be that big of a deal.

      I also pledged to earned my letters, and I know my founders.

    Tell us what you're thinking...
