Lets start this class with a yes or no: have YOU voted yet today?
If you haven’t already, get your lazy butts off your dorm room futons and go for your local representatives and officials! There is a multitude of important issues that will be decided today and every vote counts.
While our fingers and toes might be busy tallying up local votes, the real question burning on everyone’s mind this time of year is just who will take the cake in 2012?
Four years ago, when I was young, naïve and believed that the world wanted to do right be me and countless other college kids, I put my trusty vote in Barack Obama. Then I watched tons of the YouTube videos put together by his team (my personal fave is the “Yes We Can” video, featuring tons of celebrities) and even got teary-eyed as our national declared him President of the United States – if you’re shaking your head at me, whatever, I believe it was a big moment for our country. When’s the last time you got paid millions of dollars to do your job? Oh, you just make minimum wage? Weird because these celebs make tons of money for the movies they make, and they are pretty undeserving of it, according to Forbes. These overpaid celebs probably take their millions and throw it down at Fred Segal the second they get their paychecks, whereas I save for months to buy a mediocre dress from Express.
If these overpaid actors and actresses had these jobs, maybe they would learn the value of a dollar and get paid what they actually should be paid. Read More »

Seasonal depression is very, very real. For once I am not joking.
The cold creeps in and consumes us all with ABC Family 25 days of Christmas marathons and home delivery. Social lives are forgone at the risk of wearing open-toed heels in thirty-degree weather.
Although watching The Grinch fifteen times in one week does sound fun, I’m here to remind you that while you’re in college you’re obliged to solider through the blizzards and natural disasters and drink.
Here are eight good reasons why you shouldn’t stay in this winter… Read More »

Don’t look now, but the fall semester is coming to an end. That’s right people; I pretty much only have one semester of college left before the real world…
But here’s the good news: The last month of the semester means it’s formal time. We get an excuse to dress up, take millions of pictures and ignore the piles and piles of work we have at the end of the semester.
You find your frat-star for the evening, and I’ll find you a dress. Deal?
I want to rock this Tibi Orange Crush Sheath dress to formal for three reasons. First off, I love the bright color — this pop of color will make sure you stand out among the tons of little black dresses that will show up. Second, sleeves do wonders for me. It’s cold, so I’ll gladly take the extra warmth (and they’re nice and flattering). And third, I’m a sucker for keyholes. Read More »

Happy November, everyone! I hope your October was splendid and you’ve officially busted out your winter wardrobe pieces. I’m always particularly excited about this time of year because that means digging out all of my coats. I’m such a coat whore and pick up a few new ones every season to add to my collection. One thing that’s missing, however, is a cape. I’ve tried plenty on, but never had any luck finding a great one. Browsing the other day, I found this beauty and think it may be the answer to my prayers!
Welcome the Modcloth Look in the Letter Box Cape to the column! This cherry red cape is totally traffic-stopping and perfect for the gal who wants to make a statement. And if you were wondering, brightly-colored coats were all over the Fall 2011 runways, so this is definitely on-trend. Read More »

It’s no secret that James Franco is Hollywood’s modern day Renaissance man. Aside from being incredibly sexy, he’s an actor, screenwriter, producer, director, artist, author, PhD student, and professor. Homeboy does everything. Is he neurotic? Yes. Does that make him any less awesome? No way. I firmly believe that with all of the activities James is doing, he is in need of a personal assistant. James, if you’re reading, I will take on that burden for you. Seriously.
Most celebrities have “people” to update their Twitter and Facebook accounts, but not James Franco. He updates his own stuff. Man likes to be in control, hence why he decided to go on General Hospital and get a million different degrees at various schools. He just can. So please enjoy the pictures that Mr. Franco has uploaded himself on Facebook. Read More »

Another woman accused Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain of sexual harassment in the 1990s. Cain was working as a Washington lobbyist heading the National Restaurant Association at the time. Three of his former female coworkers claim that he acted extremely inappropriately towards them, inviting them back to his apartment, commenting on their appearance, and making overtly sexual gestures. Of course, many are doubting the validity of these claims- the women have yet to come forward and identify themselves. When the news first broke at the beginning of the week, many thought Cain, the frontrunner at the time, was dunzo. Surprisingly, Cain’s lead has actually grown this week. He’s raised an additional $1.2 million in campaign funds and has strengthened poll numbers.
Dippin’ Dots has some serious money problems. ‘The Ice Cream of the Future’?? Not so much. On Thursday, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in attempt to avoid foreclosure. With $11 million in loans, there are serious doubts whether the brand can save itself. I remember the first time I had Dippin’ Dots…my life was never the same again. Well, no, not really…but I really will miss those teensy tinesy pearls of frozen ice cream if the company can’t pull itself together. Where would malls and amusement parks be without them? I’ve written before about why I don’t tan, and unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, you know that tanning carries with it some pretty serious risks. Still, up to 80 percent of people under 25 are convinced that they look better with a tan, and every single day, more than one million Americans visit tanning salons. As dangerous as natural sun exposure can be, it seems that tanning beds may be even worse. People who have used indoor tanning beds are at a 75% higher risk for melanoma, the most lethal form of skin cancer.
So why do people take the risk? Because they want to look good. And, according to a new study, they may be addicted. In 2005, scientists showed that many sunbathers met the medical definition of substance abuse disorder. This inspired researchers from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center to dig a little deeper. Their results, which were published over the summer, found that brain scans of frequent tanners showed activity that was similar to the patterns of drug addiction. Read More »
