10 Life Lessons from Barbie

When I was 10 I used to lock myself in my room and play Barbie for hours. Sometimes it ended in drastic haircuts, other times marriages, but usually with someone’s head being popped off. Although I had a lot of respect for a girl who could rock one of my many failed attempts at an early “Rachel,” I had to admit I was a little jealous. Don’t worry, as a grown up I don’t pop people’s heads off if I’m jealous…I just blink my eyes until they disappear.

Jealous of what you may ask…. her perfect body? No. Her pent house? Not quite. Her unending supply of friends? For any lonely girl in the suburbs probably, but not this one. I was jealous of the whole package. The lifestyle, the glamorous parties I would make her attend, the fact that she never had to change underwear.

All of those hours spent with my (close to) 40 Barbies taught me some life lessons. Or at least things that I should never try or even attempt, ie: taking a walk in Barbie’s shoes. Read More »

Sundays Are For Procrastinating: Manatees Are The Water’s Cutest Creatures

Sea cows, manatees…whatever you call them, I am obsessed. So much so that on my family vacation to Mexico I bullied my parents into taking me to a water park so I could swim with the oversized cuties. Weighing in at a minimum of 800 pounds and being more curious than Curious George makes you wonder what is there not to love?

Take a look at these beasts and tell me you’re not in l-o-v-e.

An Ode to Red Cups

If red cups could talk,

the things they would say

about the places they’ve been–

the things they’ve seen–

the games they’ve played.

No one ever shows them recognition or praise

for the fun they are crucial for,

for the memories you never remember,

for the instant status of coolness.

But that all changes here and now.

This one’s for you Red Cups.

~~~
Beer pong, flip cup and relay
just a few games we love to play
but without you we’d have no way.
Vodka, Tequilla, and Bacardi,
with you its always a party.
Gin, Whiskey, and Rum
with you I always have fun.
In pictures you look the best,
you easily stand up against the rest.
Blue, green and orange,
just don’t compare
to your beautiful red glare.
The adventurous we’ve been on,
my memories are already gone
but I know if you were by my side
I’m sure it was one hell of a ride.
So here’s to you Red Cups,
this one’s for you.
~~~~~

If red cups could talk,

the things they would say…

Thank God they can’t talk.

Celebrities I Want To Go Shopping With

Truth: I love looking at celebrity fashion. When I’m flipping through the pages of a tabloid, scrolling through a gossip website or reading InStyle, the first thing I notice aren’t the glaringly provocative headlines, but the clothes that the stars themselves are wearing. Whether celebs are photographed at red carpet events or just strolling over to the food store, they always manage to look so. freakin’. good. (Well, most of them anyway.)

So obvs I would love to be given the chance to go shopping with them… and if I could also have their budget, that would be great too. Here’s a list of my favorite star fashionistas who I would take a trip to the mall with any day. Read More »

Intro to Cooking: Alfredo Lasagne

Mmm. Lasagne. Now, if only you could make a smaller batch…that was healthy…

Oh wait, you can!

My love affair with lasagne didn’t start off so sweet. I used to hate it, mostly because I only ever saw it in a school cafeteria setting. It was disgusting and old looking. Not appetizing to the average 8-year-old. As I got older, though, I learned to make it for myself and, unfortunately, I learned to make it in the time consuming fashion. I chalked it up as one of those dishes I would make for special times, when I had the right amount of time and patience.

Fast forward to last week and I decided to switch things up. If I could make myself a tiny pan of lasagne that wasn’t quite so…heavy…I could make it just as quickly as spaghetti or microwaving a Lean Cuisine. Read More »

Ryan Gosling And Sandra Bullock Are Having Some Fun Fun Fun in Austin? [PHOTOS]

It seems ex-flames Ryan Gosling and Sandra Bullock are having some fun fun fun again in Austin this weekend.  The  couple was spotted making the rounds in Sandy’s home town at the annual Fun Fun Fun Fest on Auditorium Shores.  There’s no doubt the two make a cute couple, but we gotta say, seriously Ryan?!? You could do better. And by better I mean me. Yes, me. Choose me Ryan!

Update:  Turns out, the girl in the photo is not Sandra Bullock, but rather The Girl With The Dragon Tattoos’ Rooney Mara.  Ryan is in Austin filming with legendary director Terrence Malick.
