Last night, Robin Lin, an American woman, was named the 2011 CNN Hero of the Year. She was nominated due to her passion for helping thousands of women in Indonesia have healthy pregnancies and births. She has set up a health clinic that provides free prenatal care and and medical aid for families that cannot afford it. Lin was awarded this honor by the public.
In a world where we spend a lot of time talking about celebrities and obsessing over our looks (we’re guilty of both), it’s good to remember that there are better people out there to talk about and more important things to care about. This amazing example in female empowerment just goes to show what women can do in a “man’s world.” With people like Lin leading the way, women are showing just what they can accomplish with some hard work and a lot compassion. Girl power!

Great for her! I read that they receive $250,000 for their charity and another $50,000 for being nominated, and I bet this will bring attention and donations her way. Many more people will be helped because of her.

We (Americans) don't realize how important prenatal care is in developing countries. I'm so happy to see some attention brought to this worthy cause!
