Battle of the Boy Bands: ‘N Sync vs. Backstreet Boys

I always struggled in deciding which boy band I loved more: ‘N Sync or the Backstreet Boys. ‘N Sync’s No String Attached tour was the first concert I ever attended and they had songs you could really dance to. But the Backstreet Boys also had such great, catchy ballads. Such a dilemma. Today, January 28, is both Joey Fatone and Nick Carter’s birthday.

In honor of the aging of these two boy band members, CollegeCandy is hosting a showdown to finally determine the best boy band.

  • So now that you’ve calculated who we think won the battle of the boy bands, what do you think?

When I was in elementary school, I had NSYNC posters covering every single inch of my room because I was desperately in love with Justin Timberlake. My first screen name was NSYNCKG. So, I guess I would say that I am an NSYNC girl at heart, BUT I do love the Backstreet Boys and find myself listening to "Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely" on a daily basis. This is a very hard choice.

Also: (Sorry, I am very invested in this intense debate, obviously) How does Paris Hilton beat Britney Spears? That is just crazy talk!

Backstreet Boys all the way. Way more talent.

      No contest: BSB

NSync was the trailer park wannabes – and dressed and acted like it, too. Boybands all have a certain amount of phoniness to them, but I have never seen any as phony and insincere as NSync – hell, they can't even decide how they got their name. I've heard Timberlake float several different versions himself!

And looking strictly at the music- which wasn't always great even when it was catchy and a few songs were even downright painful, BSB always took the classier romantic route where NSync always took the cheap horndog route. Nothing wrong with a little sexuality but there is no reason to be crass about it, especially when catering to a pre-teen and teen audience.

Besides — who is still around and successful? It isn't NSync. One member of NSync is around, the rest have fallen off the face of the earth. BSB-1 is still together, recording, and doing successful worldwide tours – not stadiums anymore but not even close to the county fair circuit either.

And BSB just had much better voices. Not that you would know about the NSync guys because they never let you hear three of them. Every guy got solos in BSB and nailed them.

They are both skanky but Paris is just shallow and narcissistic as all get out as but not also mentally ill. To her credit, though, Britney has made great strides in getting herself together, where Paris seems to have stalled altogether.

I agree. Britney is Britney. She got by on talent where as Paris Hilton is only famous because of her last name.

Was a huge Nsync fan way back when, then in high school my cousin gave me her BSB Greatest Hits Album and I began to question why I was ever an Nsync fan. Their music was catchy but I think BSB was more meaningful and soulful as a kid I preferred the catchiness as a teen I preferred the songs with meaning.

Okay, but there's also a category you completely skipped over: talent.

I admit I've only listened to a handful of BSB songs, but I think NSYNC were more vocally balanced, and have you ever listened to their a cappella songs?? Heaven. There is no contest, imo.

You need to listen to more BSB. There is no comparison.
