5 Reasons You Should Be a CollegeCandy Summer Intern
February 20, 2012 6:30 pm Posted in College, Money & Career Katie G. - North Central College g+ page

We all ponder the idea of getting an internship while in college. Why do we do this? Well, for one it looks awesome on a resume. It also beats having a lame part-time job working at a grocery store as a cashier (been there) or life guarding at a pool. Internships give us the experience of a “real world job” without actually having to be a real person and be in the “real world.”
Now some internships can be pretty dull and lame. You’re the coffee getter, the errand runner, basically the office doormat, but not at CollegeCandy, and here are five reasons why you should definitely consider us for your next internship.
1. You can tweet anonymously. This was huge for me. As CollegeCandy interns, we have our own Twitter handle (@ccintern) and we tweet anything we darn well please. Embarrassed about a one night stand you had but cannot help but share? Do it through @cc_intern! I have expressed many thoughts that I was too embarrassed to share on my actual Twitter account, such as a huge honkin’ zit I had in the middle of my forehead. Tweet until you can’t tweet no mo’.
2. Free stuff! My favorite pair of boots that I wear almost every day? Yeah, got those free from CollegeCandy. Who doesn’t love free stuff? A crazy person, that’s who.
3. You’ll love your boss. I have worked with two of the funniest and nicest people that I’ve ever come in contact with. Your editors will make you feel completely comfortable and secure in your writing. You don’t have to pretend to be some alternative “work” version of yourself. You get to be yourself around your boss! What’s better than that? [Editor's Note: We didn't give her the free boots to say that, we swear. Love you, too, Katie!!]
4. You can write about pretty much anything. Sex. Sororities. Super awesome YouTube videos. Anything! Everything! Interning at CollegeCandy give you the opportunity to write about stuff that interests you.
5. You don’t have to live in NYC. I hail from Chicago, Illinois and still intern for the wonderful people at CollegeCandy. It’s all through telecommunication! While I don’t get the opportunity to go to happy hour after work with my co-workers, I do get to write stories about how perfect Ryan Gosling is from my bed while wearing sweats. Not a bad gig.

No it's not. But I do have a question. On the application it asks about social media experience. What does that mean exactly?

When we say social media experience, we're asking how much experience you have with twitter, facebook, tumblr, etc. Also, if you've blogged before, let us know!

I commend anyone who takes an unpaid internship. Y'all are strong. I am a software engineer so unpaid internships are pretty rare. Experience is everything though. Good luck to everyone who applies.
