Guess Who Almost Played Jack and Rose in Titanic! [Photos]

It’s almost impossible to imagine Titanic without Kate and Leo. In fact, I hardly reference their characters as Rose and Jack. Unlikely as it may seem, a surprising amount of other A-List celebs auditioned for those highly coveted roles. Can you picture Madonna as Rose and Johnny Depp as Jack? Me either. But they auditioned! Also notable are Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Can you imagine if the on-set romance would have brought them together back then? They’d have like 14 kids by now! In honor of Titanic’s release in 3D, we put together a list of all the actors and actresses who were vying for Kate and Leo’s spots. If you haven’t had a chance to see the movie in 3D, do so immediately. The visuals are stunning, and the story, well, it’s like watching it for the very first time.

Would you have chosen any of the other contenders? Who is the most shocking?

    I actually agree, I love Kate but I could really see Claire as Rose.

    I didn't know Rob Lowe was up for Jack at all but I've read that he was to have the Billy Zane role. One story has the casting director remembering the tape scandal and nixed it. A more recent "story" I read says it would have been too much to have DeCaprio and Lowe both in the movie. I like the latter version better.
    I remember Lowe on Leno at the time the movie was out and a big hit. He tells the story of going to the movie and all the girls screaming for Leo. A bit odd and he kids about that. Then the film shuts down and they can't finish the showing. And in a great line Lowe tells the Leno audience "so don't tell me how it ends!"

    I liked everything else about the movie except for the casting – I just didn't feel the chemistry between those two, they looked more like brother and sister. If he was to be cast opposite someone, it should have been Claire Danes – they were great together in 'Romeo & Juliet'. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie would have been good to see – they have great chemistry on screen, one thing that was evident from 'Mr & Mrs Smith'. I would have also liked to see Brad Pitt with Minnie Driver. Chris O'Donnell+Jennifer Connelly. Gwnyeth Paltrow+Matthew McConaughey. Johnny Depp+Claire Danes. Johnny Depp+Jennifer Connelly. Rose Bryne+Stephen Dorff. NO to Madonna, Tori Spelling, Christina Applegate (I like her but I don't think she has what it takes to carry a movie of this size). Nicole Kidman and Geena Davis (I love them both but I just don't see them in the role). My mind's blurring now with what could have been but we'll never know.

    This seems super made up and random. Eliza Dushku was 14 when they were casting the movie and Geena Davis was 40, what director would ever audition 14-year-olds and 40-year-olds for the same part?

    This band knows how to groove and made everyone at SXSW fall in love. And how could you not with an accent like that?
