Tuffy Luv Makes It Up

Dear Tuffy Luv,

Do guys like makeup? My friend says yes, I don’t think so. Is there a happy medium when it comes to applying makeup, or do you guys think it’s hot when we go all out Kardashian style? Let me know what’ll help me attract guys, not repel them!

Dear College Freshman Wanting To Date More,

This is timely! I just read a really interesting article about something similar in the New York Times. Apparently, wearing makeup in the workplace makes women seem more competent. I am semi-disgusted by this (how chauvinistic can our flooping society be!!!), but facts iz facts.

But do guys actually PREFER makeup?! Well, honestly, CFWTDM, it really and truly depends on the guy.

Yeah, Cosmo and whatnot will spend endless decades trying to convince you one way or the other, depending on what’s in and what they’re trying to sell. But, truthfully, it all comes down to personal preference.

I mean, if you really want to break it down, think about what kind of guy YOU want to attract. Do you want someone who only wants to hike and live off the land? Perhaps you’re best off with the no-makeup look. If you want, like, a sugar daddy, my understanding is a full face of makeup is de rigeur.

But for anything in between–and most of us DO opt for something in between–it should be all about how you feel most beautiful. Think about your lifestyle and how you want to appear, and make that look yours. If you want to be totally barefaced, the right guy will think that’s your best look. If you feel best with makeup, either natural or full-out, the right guy will think THAT’S your best look. Match your look to how you feel best, and your confidence will shine.

Or whatever.

Okay, stop making Aunt Tuffy sound like a Hallmark card for Revlon. Enough is enough.

Hearts & Skulls,

Tuffy Luv

I dont know if its just me who thinks this way but sometimes i find that guys who think the whole-no makeup look is great is kinda cliche because on one hand they like girls with the no-makeup look but on the other hand they also want girls to look presentable, pretty. And i'm not trying to say no makeup isn't pretty as well but it's just such a two-way street for me. Does anyone feel the same way?

Whenever I wear makeup (or clothes) I never do it with men in mind. I see so many articles like this about what men supposedly like/don't like on women. It perplexes me so much… like, why do I care if random dudes don't like my makeup? They can look away. Like the famous words of the wise Eric Cartman: "It's my hot body, I do what I want!"

    6. Samantha says:

I love makeup as a creative outlet – there are times I can easily spend over a half hour doing a smokey eye and contouring my face. I'm totally obsessed by all things beauty.

However, I never wear makeup because I feel a need to. I go out totally bare-faced all the time – I'm not uncomfortable in my own skin. In high school I couldn't even go for a run without at least concealer and mascara, but I've gained the maturity to wear no makeup and still look people in the eye without feeling ugly or less confident.

Honestly, unless I'm wearing a super dramatic look (i.e. any eyeshadow that isn't some shade of brown), I find that most guys can't tell whether I'm wearing makeup or not (including my dad, who you'd think could tell the difference as he sees me without makeup all of the time). They don't really care. A guy I once dated put it best: "If I cared that you weren't wearing makeup, I wouldn't really deserve to hang out with you, would I?"
