Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The GREAT Gatsby’ Trailer Released!
Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The Great Gatsby’ trailer says this movie won’t be what you read that one summer in 8th grade. For the most part, I remember all the books I had to read for “summer reading” in middle school and high school. They were typically boring, and though I love to read, I put them off till the last possible second. The Great Gatsby, I must admit, was no different. Yeah, yeah, I know its a classic, blah, blah, blah, but I just wasn’t feeling it.
After watching this trailer though, I think my mind might just be changed. This was TOTALLY not what I was expecting. I was expecting to feel the way I did while reading the novel, kinda bored, kinda waiting (not so patiently) for it to just be over, and probably, if I’m being completely honest, resorting to SparkNotes once or twice. (Don’t get me wrong, I did not hate the book. Maybe I just wasn’t old enough to fully appreciate the great literature? Or maybe (probably) since it was labeled “summer work”, it was automatically on my bad list?) But whatever it was, the trailer blew my mind. It has a modern flare, a mysterious edge, an almost exotic ambiance, and hey, it has Leo! It looks sophisticated, exciting, modern, despite the Jazz Era setting.
For a person who would most definitely not call themselves “up to speed” on movies, I actually want to see it. According to the trailer, the movie seems to employ many different aspects, aspects that are attractive to all types of people. You want mystery? You’ve got it. You want darkness and secrets? You’ve got it. You want love? You’ve got it.
So before you watch this trailer, forget everything you thought you knew in middle school (well not everything), go in with an open mind, and hopefully, you’ll be blown away like I was.
