The end of the semester is the worst for papers, especially in the spring. All you want to do is lay out by the pool with your friends and sip on something fruity, not sit inside on your computer typing out some analysis about something that you didn’t actually read. And even if you did read whatever it is you’re writing about, sometimes you just don’t have the energy to make more of an argument. Sometimes you run out of things to say. So what should you do when you need another half page or so, and you can’t.get.any.more.out? Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered!
Here are some easy tricks (and subtle) to make your final paper longer…

my university measures by word count, not page count, so most of these are pointless…
actually, i do what i can to make my work look shorter- so it doesn't cost so much to print!

My school measures by word count too, you definitely can't fudge it.

Well not using abbreviations does add quite a few extra words to ones word count if you are not graded by length.

If there are any, ANY unusual terms, make sure to define them and reference the definition. It adds length, words, AND profs eat it up.

My university countered these cheats by providing rules about margins, text/punctuation font size, paragraph breaks, etc. At the end of the day, attempting to beef up your paper with these cheats will not get you a better grade. Professors can sniff out bullshit pretty easily. You'd do better to just write a better paper.

Yeah, this won’t work in science papers. In a science paper, you’re judged by content alone, not prose.

This is just grounds for trouble. It may work at a small college, but most of the time, the page count requirement is small anyway. When it counts, just beef up your content with real thoughts and don't try to skip over the hard stuff.
