Bloomberg-Approved Snacks For Summer

June 3, 2012 3:00 pm     Posted in Body, Food, Health, Homepage Exclusive  Caitlin Corsetti g+ page

If you haven’t heard, New York’s Mayor Bloomberg placed a “ban on the sale of large sodas and other sugary drinks at restaurants, movie theaters and street carts” in an effort to fight obesity. This means “the sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces” will be prohibited starting next March. That means you can’t order a large soda at the movies.

Oh but it doesn’t apply to diet soda, fruit juice, dairy-based drinks, or alcoholic beverages. Thank heavens! So basically, just regular carbonated drinks. While it’s kind of the right idea, it might not be the best way to fight obesity.

We however have rounded up some good, healthy, and Bloomberg-approved summer snacks just for you!

Yes, nothing like the government controlling what we eat and drink =) Love the recipes but hate that NY officials think its their place to regulate what we take into our bodies.

In my country, Denmark, they just raise the charges on everything with added sugar and/or fat, and lower it on healthy food. We have an whole other system with free education, healthcare system and a great pension but then again about 50% tax, and 25% VAT. We are used to the whole government controlling everything, and to be honest, most people love it. It's not perfect but it gives security.

I just think this sounds crazy. I love the initiative, but wouldn't people just buy two cups of soda? And also to me it sounds drastic just to ban it. It reminds me of the smoking ban, where people has to go outside to smoke. I got to admit that as a non-smoker I can feel the difference since it was introduced. But there is a great difference: your neighbours obesity does not really effect you.

My point is this, I would wish to have a global discussion about when a government are violation the freedom of choice. To me, it is when they simply ban things, so that it is not a matter of choice, instead of making you think once again before making a decision.

      Sorry for the word vomit!

I'm shocked that Bloomberg thinks that his sugary drinks ban is okay. If the federal government tried to enforce that nationally, it would be a gigantic issue. But, all of these snacks sound delicious!

The Norwegians bunched tghetoer mostly in the Mid-West, so yes… and in southern California and, for some reason, southern Arizona. Checking aa0bit more it seems that _everyone_ has gone to southern California and Arizona in large numbers. What’s in southern Arizona? Cotton, citrus and cattle, according to Wikipedia? Also, tried for quite aa0while to find those two counties where there were noa0English.
