CollegeCandy paired up with SHAPE magazine to give us the opportunity to write about our experiences with the Special K Challenge! I’m really excited to be a part of an awesome challenge that I hope will take off the beer gut I’ve gained since turning 21 two months ago. My goals for this challenge are to learn to eat more healthfully. I also want to feel comfortable in my body again and gain some self-confidence. There’s really nothing like hearing the phrase, “You look great! Have you lost weight??” The weight loss isn’t necessarily important. Hell, I don’t even own a scale (yet), but if my clothes fit a little better by the end of these two weeks, I’ll consider that a success.
For those of you that don’t know, the Special K Challenge is pretty simple. For two weeks you replace two meals a day with a Special K Product, and then you can eat whatever you want for dinner. I mean, I’m not planning on binging on McDonald’s for dinner every night, but I did grab some healthy dinner stuff at the store. The Special K website offers a lot of meal plans and healthy alternatives for dinner. As far as beverages go, it says I can drink whatever I normally do (including beer!), but I’m giving up soda anyway, because I always feel kind of blech whenever I drink it.
I got my gift card Monday afternoon and ran straight to HyVee to buy the products. I was too excited to wait. You can also order them on line through Special K’s website. Like I said, you’re supposed to replace two meals a day with Special K Products. They have special products designed to replace the meals and then fun snacks you’re allowed to munch on twice a day in between meals. My whole life I’ve had this insane sweet tooth, so I opted for products that were basically all chocolate and granola.

This is one of the worst diets out there. High in carbs and sugars and low in nutrients. Not to mention this article is just an ad for their products. I would expect better, College Candy.

I hadn’t yet gone on the diet at the time this article was written, the other posts talk about how I feel about certain foods etc. There isn’t always going to be positivity, but I thought I would let the readers know what products I did end up buying if they wanted to participate with me.

the multigrain crackers are really good, especially if you put a bit of Babybell cheese on them (which are only 1 weight watchers point per disc of cheese) and it adds a little protein. good luck!
