LA Public Health Says “Suit Up!” with Condoms [Sex in the News]

One of Barney Stinson’s catchphrases is being used to encourage condom use?

Seriously. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health held a condom wrapper design contest as part of a campaign to increase condom use and decrease the spread of STDs. One million and one condoms will be wrapped with the winning design, and handed out for free. A similar contest was held in New York, which is the only city that outranks Los Angeles in HIV prevalence.

It will be about six to eight months until the condoms are distributed as they have to go through the approval channels. While I’m sure Barney would approve of this move, I’m not sure how he’d feel about LAs other condom-related news. I’m talking about the condoms in porn vote – I mean, we all know about Barney’s well-lit porn collection.

During the November election voters will be asked if porn actors should be required to wear condoms during filming. This comes after a ballot measure received over 370,000 votes.

In honour of LA’s condom news, here’s some other novelty – or cleverly packaged – condoms.
